I miss the sodium lamps. The color was so much more relaxing, and in the wintertime the orange against the snow and trees in the background, was always such a warm feeling. Even rainy nights in the summer.

What i hate about the LEDs is that the fixture is embedded. If it burns, you'll hate to change the whole thing instead of just the bulb

"I completely agree with you. Sometimes it's better and easier to just replace the fixture entirely with a new one. We also have spare fixtures that we quickly put up, and then we repair the existing ones in the warehouse when the weather is bad outside.❤

Some LED Fixtures have replaceable LED Modules and drivers, so if it burns out, they can be easily replaced

We've tested the poles. Those that are in very poor condition we replace. The rest might be repainted. They need a bit of care, and then the poles are just fine. But some people like rusty poles for the design 😅🫶. You know, it’s a trend now 😂.

In the USA we are seeing more streets with LED lighting now, it's brighter to defer thieves and cheaper. I have redone my entire house with LEDs to save money. I love this technology.

Both LED and HPS are good so I don't need to change, HPS is my favorite crima are slowly disappearing but for now no, an electronic ballast and a new bulb would be better with the old part!

Is that you driving the truck from up there also ? Don't hear communication to the driver Seem to have a nice system going . With all that I would have probably strap 5 or so(new ones) outside of the basket and Bungie corded the old ones down... Nice job 👍

Yes, it's really nice to be able to drive the truck from the bucket, so you don’t have to keep going up and down. It saves your body. Who knows, maybe in the future we’ll be sitting in a room fixing streetlights with drones 🤷‍♂️😂🫶.

Ehh, cheap plastic junk with flat pannel leds. They need to convert the solid old fixtures to a screw in edison mogul base led.

I also love the old ones. However, the new ones are actually not plastic. They are made of quite thick aluminum.

@@Skyworkss Thanks for the information about the housing. On the other hand the inside likely has a fair amount of material with a limited life span. I See this type of flat screen led fixture being installed here in the USA in many local towns. I like the idea of the power saving. I just think it would be a big savings to convert the solid old fixtures to use a mogul base led bulb. I have to question the cost and labor involved in changing those led panels. Converting to led bulbs should be simple and cost effective and not over engineered and over priced.

@@marklynch8781 "I hear what you're saying, but at the same time, it's the big players who make the decisions. Unfortunately, you and I can't influence that. It's environmental issues, light calculations, and yeah, 100 other things I could write a book about, haha. But incandescent bulbs will stop being produced within a few years, and municipalities will be forced to switch to LED. Just putting in an LED bulb... nah, that's not a good solution. You'll never get the same light distribution as you would with an LED panel, where the optics are adjusted to the direction of the light, etc. There are some awesome LED fixtures, and we shouldn't deny that. Quality fixtures are expensive, but they're also really good. It all depends on what kind of fixtures the municipality chooses for its streets. As I said, the politicians decide; we just do the work. 🤷‍♂️

I think these LEDs need to be Amber or Orange colored light. Bright white light at night isn't the right spectrum.

It is a communication module, often referred to as a 'nudd,' that is placed on top of the fixture. You can track the fixture through an app, and on some fixtures, you can also adjust the brightness. It acts as a control unit.

What do you mean? Please elaborate. We are on a deserted industrial street with zero traffic or pedestrians. One person is down on the ground and another is up. We have TMA protection, helmets, and fall protection. Explain what more we can do instead of just criticizing.

I’ve been doing this for 14 years. So far, I’m in pretty good health. I hope I can keep it up for life. Of course, the job is physically demanding, but someone has to do it. Thank you for your concern.
