AlaskanRc You are right, we own a fleet of Ford Pickups for over 10 years now and almost every one has serious problems, rear ends failing, engine failures, wiring problems, etc. And this is most hwy miles and regular oil changes because we get off work early for oil changes, most of us get oil changes and service more frequently than required, but it's not just Ford, GM isn't much better, when you have trouble you bring it in and they tell you oh you never came in for your 30,000 mile service, so GM charges 1500 bucks for injector/fuel system flush and doesn't even some the problem

Are you serious right now? This only benefits the simpleton that cant figure out to steer the opposite way? You still park the trailer but with a knob instead of a wheel? If you cant back up a trailer with your mirrors and the steering wheel, YOU SHOULDN'T BE TOWING ONE.

Nice feature for people that just tow in the summer when going to a lake with the wake board boat or camping with a travel trailer. If you take a close look at the receiver hitch on most pickup trucks out there, they have never or seldom been used, this is for those folks.

I agree, that is probably the place of this feature. I still don't fully support but for those people I am not adamantly against. It's interesting though because the tow ratings on the 1/2 tons have increased a lot lately but the majority of them will never see a trailer with brakes.

As easy as it is to just say 'Learn to drive.' I suspect things like this are incremental steps to proving self drive technologies to the mass market. We have lane keeping systems, adaptive cruise control, parallel park assist, collision avoidance, navigation systems, etc. The individual components are all gradually making their way into the market. It's only a matter of time before it all comes together and self drive becomes just another option group on the window sticker.

Lol, all the negative comments. It's an option. If you don't like it, don't get it. If you have it, nothing says you have to use it. I have watched countless people who claim to "know how to back a trailer" pull back and forth 50 times before trying something else; while others, can back in with one try. It's merely a tool in the tool box.

News flash! If I turn the big knob called the steering wheel to the left the trailer goes right and vice versa. It's very easy really. I think this feature is for weekend warriors, people that tow a boat or RV or other toys occasionally, anyone else, such as myself, who have thousands and thousands of hours logged hauling/towing wont be using it, and I highly doubt anyone using this system will be taking any of the 'skilled' peoples jobs.
@AtomicCactus

One tendency when backing up a trailer is to not pay attention to the movements of the tow vehicle. I've seen people smash their vehicles against obstacles (poles, walls, trees, other vehicles) because they were solely fixated on the movement of their trailer. I think I can say that many non-professional drivers out there towing trailers should gain more experience before endangering the public. I've been an advocate for trailer towing endorsements on one's license for years. There are too many people on the road to be figuring out the dynamics of a trailer. While this system is cool and innovative, I think it may encourage drivers who are otherwise too inexperienced towing trailers to go out on the road with one. And make them prone to not be attentive to the movements of their tow vehicle while backing up. Also curious if this works for fifth wheel and gooseneck trailers, seeing how the checkered sticker must be visible by the backup camera.

I understand if you dont tow a trailer often, but at the same time how is anyone ever going to learn if these systems become more standard. They may be helpful but those who don't know how to reverse a trailer won't bother taking the time to learn. Cars parallel park them selves these days. Every one holds there own opinion but i enjoy driving and the challenges i may come apon when having to back a trailer into a tight spot i would prefer to be at the controls.

I am a long haul driver and use my 2015 - PeterBuilt model 579 with its 16 foot sleeper. As part of the visibility package not only does it have side to side cameras but two more in the rear for backing up to hitch up. For another $4,800 I was able to also add their self reverse hitching system similar to what Ford is offering. I have been driving semi's for over 35 years now and the past 11 years have been long haul driving cross country. If you have ever tried backing up a tractor like mine you need a spotter to guide you back even using the 2 rear back up cameras because of rain or dirt on them. Now Before I purchased my new Pete I decided to give marriage another try after all I needed a full time spotter. Well my newly married Chimp used to be my spotter. But with this new reversing system I can stay in my PJ's in bed while my Chimp backs my rig up. Once she has done this the only thing left for me to do is hook the air lines up and toss my Chimp in the sleeper until I need to hitch up another load. Imagine a female Chimp with this system being able to stay in the cab where she stays out of the weather. Now I have been trying to teach her to drive forward but no dice and does she ever toss a fit over it. Imagine a Chimp can ever back and hitch a big rip up what will they think of next. Now of course this is all fiction but it proves a point even a Chimp should be able to back a trailer up. LOL way to go FORD".....

If you can't just push the trailer on your own and you need a pickup truck to pull it.... Heck why do you need a trailer, pushing the load around on wheels is for lazy people! Seriously though, I pull trailers enough to be able to do it on my own, and I'd still probably use the feature if I had it. If you have something to prove, and reversing your trailer "on your own" is your way to do it, then all the power to you.

Some more sensors and programming to break only to be fixed by for at $100 an hour. 3. This feature in combination with a back up camera trying to park or maneuver a trailer is extremely complicated. Well isn't that just special. Just what we need, another fricken job done by a computer so any brainless idiot can do it. So in order to use this I have to put stickers on the tongue of my trailer for the camera to pick up the motion. Right, like those will really stay on there long term. Honestly it isn't hard to back a trailer, I was doing it long before I had my license. I realize most people don't come from a farm background and are used to maneuvering equipment, but stuff like this just make me wonder somedays. The engineer in me says that's a pretty cool concept, but the practical farmer in my just screams why?! New trucks are way overpriced to start with and are full of unnecessary junk that is great in a Cadillac, but really has no reAson being in a truck. Honestly if you can't back your trailer, you don't have any business pulling it. Just like getting your drivers license, if you can't do the maneuverability, you can't pull it.

Its a great idea, but technology can't replace bad driving. Not to mention it'll make bad drivers worse by having them rely on it.

Sooo.....you replaced the steering wheel with a knob that you still have to manually turn? Tell me how the truck is doing it by itself again?

Most of these comments are so dumb. It's a pain to maneuver a trailer in alleys or parking lots, especially backing up with other cars around.

This technology is something that is made because they can, not because they should. Ford need to improve there technology they have and work out the bugs not just keep adding worthless accessories.

May I ask what Americans in general thinks about the 2015 GMC Sierra Denali? I live in Dubai and I'm planing to buy Sierra Denali 6.2 OR F150 King Ranch. Your opinion will help me to make a decision. Thank you

3BoOoDTV A lot of people on here are going to bash the brand they don't like because the Ford vs Chevy fanboys never shut the fuck up. Both of those are really good choices and neither is the wrong choice. Both are much better than dodge, toyota, nissian, and whoever else makes these sized trucks. Pick whatever one you think looks better.

PRETTY COOL FEATURE, NOW THAT IS A GOOD WAY TO HAVE ANY DRIVER WITH NO EXPIRIENCE GET BEHIND A WHEEL AND MANAGE A TRAILER AND MAKE THAT DRIVER MORE INCOMPETENT THAN WHAT HE IS NOW. FORD PLEASE STOP MAKING WAYS TO UNABLE DRIVERS.

Honestly, these trailer assist and parking assist features are so silly. If you can't parallel park your vehicle, you shouldn't be driving. And if you can't back your trailer up, you shouldn't be towing....just a humble opinion from someone that has been driving for 27 years....
