They should’ve added how customers show up right when closing time is and expect you to take their order in the drive thru even though “you’re supposed to close exactly at closing time.” Then turn around and want to call corporate and lie about how long they were waiting. The customers have gotten worse and the quality has gone down since my time as a partner. This Corporation has given its customers a sense of entitlement, they will yell, spit, flip off and use harsh words towards an employee, then they call and blame the employees for being rude and not only get a free beverage but also get the employee in trouble for their own actions. The company doesn’t care about its employees, it cares about the income and the customers experience “i.e. lies”. How about some recognition for your employees who work hard every day and all they get it criticized. Plus favoritism in the workplace. Like Morning shifts always get favored by the store manager cause they work that shift, and it’s always the night crew that gets blamed for doing everything and anything wrong. This place truly has become the McDonald’s of Coffee Shops lol.

Not too long ago, I was in the drive thru (about 15 minutes before closing), by the time it was my turn to place an order.. (with about 5 minutes to spare) the baristas stopped taking orders. I pulled up to the drive thru window and the barista literally closed the window in my face while yelling “I don’t care”. Thankfully, I had all this recorded on my dash cam and submitted it to corporate.

During our visit to the US in 1997 we were visiting the Starbucks on Market St in San Francisco. The barista who was making my coffee accidentally squeezed the cup to hard or something and got steaming hot coffee on his hand. I worriedly asked him if he didn't need to go hold that hand under running water, and he replied: I'll die later. I have always been shocked by that, as it gave me the feeling that he could've lost his job by making a little mistake or showing he was human. Dear barista, if you read this: I hope your hand healed. I felt your pain. Talk about work-ethics.

I've worked in different food settings, mostly factories, and most of these are universal: no temporary hair dye, no nail polish or you have to wear gloves, no jewelry except a wedding band, no perfume. I've never heard the 2 drink thing as a limitation. Sequencing is very technical and optimized to get drinks out FAST. If you are working on more than 2 at once, that means something is sitting and people are waiting. I'm bad on bar, but I'd bet there are baristas that overlap 3 drinks. I'm actually angry that they imply we intentionally go slow when your whole being is getting drinks made and out. It's chaos. Also, yes, we steam each drink individually to get the foam to milk ratio right and warm milk is a breeding ground for LOTS of pathogens. The dress code is odd though. I'll give them that. But it is in a lot of places.

The jewelry thing is all about health safety. Stones in rings/bracelets can collect bacteria and possibly contaminate drinks/food. The only reason we could ask someone to leave is if they were making a HUGE scene by attacking employees verbally or physically. I worked for starbucks for 4 years and quit in 2019. Also the working on multiple drinks thing was never enforced and I personally worked on 3+ drinks at a time. And the just say yes thing is real.... it was incredibly annoying but we would figure out ways around it especially for super crazy requests.
@Taryncloud9
@Taryncloud9 3 жыл бұрын
So the whole “say yes” thing isn’t real and hasn’t been a thing in years. It’s been replaced with the third place model. Furthermore we can NEVER reheat a drink behind the bar(basic food safety, are you stupid?) we remake the drinks. We are absolutely allowed to say no, however, as a service worker why would want to say no?

If you ever want to get into barista work, don't let Starbucks be your first job.... as a person whose worked and trained for multiple artisan coffee companies AND had the unpleasant experience of working for Starbucks out of pity for 3 months, I'm being honest.... between no dialing in to the espresso, resulting into a slur that looks like dishwater, no training on how to actually steam milk, and the "guidelines" that purposefully make serving a proper latte take forever and spoil the espresso before it could even be served... Starbucks is just a massive no. (not to mention the coldbrew that'd come to store in an unmarked bag that just said "cold brew) There's no way of saying it without sounding like a coffee snob, but when previous Starbucks workers would apply to other chains or shops, management would literally just deem them "inexperienced" and there was merit to it unfortunately.

The rule about asking customers to leave isn't entirely updated. We went through confrontation training a couple months ago that allowed us to deny a customer service if we felt threatened or thought they were a disruption to the store. Mind you, we have to ask calmly and politely. We are also allowed to respond to negative talk like, if a customer is saying nasty things to a barista, we shifts can step in and say, "I'm sorry you are upset with us and what can we do to make the situation better." or "I don't appreciate being spoken to like that and i'm sorry you feel that way."

The pefume thing makes sense because peoe can be allergic to some perfumes and i think they just want to eliminate ppl having allergic reactions. Now a lot is dependent on your manager. You have never had to buy things to hang out in the lobby. It’s always been two drinks at a time, if you can’t sequence that’s on you. Mobile orders are what’s cause in the hold up, they have to be worked into cafe orders as well. Only stores with lots of instances of homeless or illegal instances had a lock on the bathroom. Well, we will say no to one of our restrooms because there's two separate restrooms for a reason that literally has a plaque on the door that says "Employees Only", and within my store, that's where we keep our cleaning products and such. If we started to let people use ours, then we'd be out of luck as well if they clog our toilets and mess up our sink, as well as they tend to do for the public restroom that's meant for them, plus customers can be quite disgusting when it come to public restrooms. (The Co-workers I work with are simply not.) There's plenty of restrooms out of the store, that they can make the journey to instead of arguing about why they can't use ours. We're also nice enough to send them to a different location that clean their bathroom more than we actually do. So many people go in and out, and there's always a long line, and we cannot and do not rush people with their time in the bathroom that we can only manage to really get that done at the end of the day when we're closing. However, sometimes we'd do at least our very best to just go in and check whenever we just can if there is no one because sometimes, it's like some toilet tissue wonderland of a playground in there to them where there's tons of that all over the floor like there isn't a trash can that isn't full inside the bathroom with them.

For everyone saying that these rules are “normal” and are common in restaurants due to food and safety regulations. You are so right, but some places have certain speculations in place. Prime example, I worked @ a fast food restaurant and facial jewelry wasnt an issue, you just were only permitted to where studs or small earrings and if you wore nails, they had to be cut really short . I definitely value customers safety, but taking away self-expression is really hurts. I work at Starbucks now and have a dilemma because I have a nose ring and a tragus piercing in my ear. Yes these are guidelines that were put in place but if I was hired on with them and been allowed to work with them, why change it now. I personally have a connection with my piercing and taking them out severs that.

The espresso machines need constant calibration or the shots will pull incorrectly. Baristas are pressured to quickly serve drinks and wouldn't have enough time to recalibrate when there's a long line.

I can tell you, I have spent a lot of money at Starbucks but when you ask to use your stars on expiring points they say yes, but they charge your card for cash not stars. If you don’t check your account you think you are using up your expiring stars and you are not. They are all just expiring. Okay the only way Around it is the app, I’ll do it, and as soon as all my stars are cashed in and my cash is all used up on the card, no more!
@christinevillarreal913
@christinevillarreal913 3 жыл бұрын
Can I ask what card you’re using? If you say “use my stars” but nothing that you’re buying applies to the stars then it’s going to charge you full amount. Also the charge goes to whichever card is scanned. If you’re not using the gift card/loyalty card and are instead scanning the visa/MasterCard/discover/etc then that’s where the charge is going to go
@rebekahkamer4190

You also need to tell your barista you want to use your stars before you let them scan your card. We have to hit a button to redeem your star rewards and can’t do it retroactively.

i feel like dress code shouldn't be that big of a deal. I wanna go in wearing my Van Halen T shirt so i can truly express myself. It feels kinda robotic wearing the same plain things. Besides, I talk to customers about literally anything and want them to feel at home. I feel if we could dress cool (lol) we'd enhance our conversations and connections. At the end of the day we're customers too!

And,, the "never say no" rule is total bullshit. At the beginning of covid I was denied my moble order because indoor access was closed and I couldn't didn't have a car to go through the drive thru. A. I am visually impaired and CAN'T drive a car, and B I literally worked 500 feet away and walked over on my lunch break, what would be the point of getting in the car and waiting gas even if I could drive. I was ripped apart by an employee who said she didn't care that it wad discrimination, and that her job was more important. Thankfully an employee who knew me (again, I worked across the parking lot and was in that location almost every other day before Covid for 2 years) figured out what was going on and brought out my food to the patio and gave the district manager's contact.
