Just letting you know Dave, I am going through all of your play lists. These are pure gold! What I find that makes these so excellent is that you take time to talk us through each piece of the process. Each video is an encyclopedia of knowledge that allows a new/beginner to really get comfortable knowing that this is all doable and it doesn’t have to be over complicated. Once again and I will say it many more time. Thank you for all of the work you have done over the years to give the greatest education we can use for practical life skills in the wild.

Ha Ha. dude, I have the sound of spanish trumpets and Johnny Cash in my head now, thanks! Funny thing, you brought back memories. My dad had that album, with Johnny Cash on it with the blue background and the red rings all around him. It had the stamp on it where Dad bought it from the AFB PX where he was stationed on the Air Force base in Murfreesboro Tenn. Thanks for jogging the ole memory bro! And thanks for watching my friend.

Thanks Lita! I was always griping about videos not turning out good at night so, Nick said cut the camera on bright setting, and aim the headlights of the truck on us, it worked, ha ha. I just cant film like this away from a campsite, like in a swamp. The truck would get stuck, ha ha. Im glad you liked it, thanks for watching my friend.

Love all of the bowl cooking ideas, works in the bush, campground or back yard. Have one bowl that should work for soup, smoker and oven. Want another for a grill bowl. Some variations I use: BBQ skewers (got 6 per package at $ Tree) are good stands and grills, push some into the ground and feed some through the rings on the ends. Also have several folding omelet pans, opened makes 2 pans. Closed makes a great oven, can put coals on top. I cook biscuits and the small 'Jiffy' size cake mixes fit perfectly (or divide standard size mixes in half).

Hmmm, now thats a cool idea! Im not sure if Nick would go for it because he likes to camp quite normally and with a good amount of gear. He knows how to do it, he just doesnt like doing it. We would have to agree on what to carry. Very cool idea! Take care and thanks for watching my friend.

Yes, make one rob. The cool thing about using a Dog Bowl is its almost always alot thicker than any stainless steel cookware you can find. The pizza pan part is where theres not many thick ones out there. Im glad you liked it, have a great weekend too brother and thanks for watching my friend.

Thanks John! The bowl cooking system is a ton of fun to use and it will cook just about any method you need. About half of what I show I was taught. this will do it Karen. Try a few of the small 5x3x1 mini loaf pans with the ring of fire. If you go with a bigger loaf pan, you need the pan of coals sitting on top for more heat. If you get to film it, send me the video. I love to cook outdoors and Nick loves to eat, Ha Ha. Thanks for watching my friend.

Man, thats another good idea. I can see it, have one bigger fire and just get the coals out of it. Yes, my dad had that Johnny Cash album when he was in the air force. I remember it from when I was a kid. I kept thinking about it everytime I said "Ring of fire" Ha Ha. Yes, give the ole bowl and pizza pan oven a try. Its really lightweight and does a great job of on the trail baking. thanks for watching my friend.

The first time I was shown this, it amazed me that there was no coals or fire under the pan but, the stuff got cooked anyway. Theres a tremendous amount of heat in that ring I suppose. I'll say the Mora is way way better quality than the smaller Cold Steel blades so , the Mora is the better choice. Most Moras come in a hard plastic sheath but them cold steel blades come in a cordura pouch so they are easier to attach to my machetes. Stainless welding rods are expensive no matter where you but them. I use a hot glue gun to attach the ends of the fabric sleeves to my bungees. Thanks for watching my friend.

Thats sounds good to me. I always just throw the biscuits on the pan and into the ring of fire and sometimes they rise, and sometimes they dont. Ha Ha, how cool. Wally world, kmart, target. They all have bowls, pans, pizza pans and stuff that can lead to a world of creating cheap outdoor cookware. This oven does really good as long as theres no fire under it. Just around it. Thanks for watching my friend.

I was shown the original idea by one of my old mentors. He used two pie pans. I just refined the idea with a pizza pan and a bowl. Try it with anything you would bake in an oven. Its a pretty good way of evenly baking on the trail. Thanks for watching my friend.

Ha Ha, no mud or water in this one. Just an actual campground for a change. I'm getting softer the older I get, LOL. Peaceful too, I cant say as I ever bumped into anyone in a swamp, Ha ha. thanks for watching my friend.

Youll love it, the cool part is all it takes is a bowl and a pizza pan. You dont have to make a bunch of special stuff for the set up. Just remember, if youre gonna bake something big like pizza or a cake or pie, you need the tray full of coals on top too. Thanks for watching my friend.

Yes, I have made some really good cookies in this oven. One tip, if you make them thin, the fire has to be at least a foot away or they will burn. theres a tremendous amount of heat inside that ring. I make thick cookies usually tho. Thanks for watching my friend.

No, I hadnt thought of that but, sometimes I put hot coals in a pan and set the pan on top of the bowl. It helps heat up the air in the top side. Ive made blackberry cobbler like that before. It does take alot of coals tho. Thanks for watching my friend.

Jelly would have been really good, after a heavy slopping of butter! I dont know about the rising part. Sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. Someone mentioned preheating everything ahead of time before I put the biscuits in. I'll give that a try next time. thanks for watching my friend.
@Reallybigmonkey1
@Reallybigmonkey1 12 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Sometimes they rise and sometimes they dont. Someone else had an idea that if I allowed the pan and bowl to preheat before I put the biscuits in, it would help them rise. I was wondering if the bowl and pan didnt seal up good, if the hot air escaping did it. I'll try the preheat thing. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching my friend.

Whats really cool is if you do not put any coals under the pan, they will never stick. When I first started doing this, I ruined a lot of food by putting fire under the pan. It felt weird to just surround the pan with fire, it makes you think it wont cook but, all youre doing is heating the entire outside of the bowl which super heats the air inside the bowl. Kinda like a hot air cooker. Neat aint it? Thanks for watching my friend.
@Reallybigmonkey1
@Reallybigmonkey1 12 жыл бұрын
Ive made a few, and ruined a few too, Ha Ha. With a pizza, it works best to have the ring of fire just a little further away from the bowl and you need to use the pan of hot coals on top. Give it a try! Thanks for watching my friend.

Chillis? You mean the resturant? Dude, now Im confused. For some reason a ring is so much harder to keep going than just a pile of wood. It actually takes a small ring of fire tho, theres alot of heat going into the center. Im glad you liked it bro. Thanks for watching my friend.

It probably would have been more simple than this yes but, I did it this way to make it a part of the bowl system because the pan and bowl were part of it anyway. I just threw in an oven since the stuff was there. Thanks for watching my friend.
@Reallybigmonkey1

Yes, this is the least favorable use of a bowl but, its ok to use as an oven when nothing else is around. If you do not put fire right underneath it does a great job of baking. Thanks for watching my friend.

I'm thinking if you do the biscuits again, or cinnamon rolls, add hot coals to the top with the extra pan. Then they will rise. I made crescent rolls over the camp fire last weekend. I had no heat on the top, same results. But I used the foil pan and grill grate, and foil on top of pan. Smelled great cooking! Thanks for the idea!

For some reason, your oven reminds me of an old Johnny Cash song... :] Seriously though, a second fire would be nice to prove the coals, so that the temperature would be a little more controllable; especially if you had more things to bake.
