There is something so liberating about cutting up plants like that. Watching all the pothos cuttings landing on the table - thinking ahead to the nice full pots you will have once they root & start to grow. That beautiful jar of Gigantium. Yep, loved it... thanks for taking the time to film & share w us.

My dieffenbachia tropic snow mother plant was three stems (taller than the one I see in the background of your video). One stem fell over and broke off, so I am propagating it for a housewarming gift for my neice. Then I was out of town for 9 days and the other two stems got heavy and also broke off. I am propagating them into new plants. The remainder of the mother plant is beginning to put out some large leaves already. This it not the first time that I have done this procedure with this plant. I know dieffenbachias don't get a lot of love on you tube, but my plant has been a joy to propagate!

@@reallybigplant one prop trick - I bought two vintage glass milk jugs (gallon and half gallon) at a thrift store. When propagating my large top cuttings, the weight of the milk jug plus water gives a sturdy base to keep the limb from falling over.

thanks so much Katie!!🥰 i’m glad the soap tip helps! I forgot to mention in the video that you shouldn’t do it too often though because if a lot of soap builds up it could get problematic for the plant. but if you have drainage, future waterings should eventually wash out the soap. thanks for watching!💜😁

haha yes omg kinda the same happened to me with one of my photos too! so last year i bought too photos, just because there was a discount if you purchased two instead of one, but after a while one of them started to kinda die :( i think it was the cover pot i put it in, cos it started yellowing leaves after i put it in there. i tried everything and started obsessing over it trying and praying to save it (i'm totally new to the plant thing!), til i thought "you know what? i'm just gonna cut it and propagate it! worst case scenario, it dies anyways" so i did and to this day, all of the propagation are alive and well :) they still live in the water, they seem to like it a lot! thank you for your videos, ive been catching up since friday XD im tot in love, you're super nice and it's all super interesting!! keep going !! ps: i totally adored the "nerdy" explanations part in (sorry) i don't remember which one

Just found your channel. Love it already! I so felt your doubt and sadness after cutting your Giaganteum. Just this week, I cut back a very, very mature peperomia polybotrya with quite a few hardened stems and I immediately regretted chopping up the beautiful mama plant. I love that jar of huge philo giganteum leaves! I have a small pot of Cebu blue pothos and another of philo micans. They each grew just a couple super long vines so I chopped and propped them in perlite. Soon I'll have fuller pots of each, plus several to share 👍
@reallybigplant2 жыл бұрын
that’s awesome!!🤩 are you finding the perlite method to be extra effective? i haven’t tried doing that but i’m curious! thanks for watching Kris 🥰💜✨
@kkmeilicke2 жыл бұрын
@@reallybigplant As long as I rinse the perlite well first, I've had great luck using it for propagating. The finer dust and small particles can prevent it from being airy enough. Keeping the cuttings in a clear, closed container (aka high humidity) has also helped.

Dude you have me all excited for spring! I'm going to get a philodendron maximum this spring. I know yours is a giganteum but it's not all that much smaller philodendron wise and I'm REALLY jazzed about my future buddy seeing you work with yours. I'm just waiting until it warms a little to avoid transit damage. I've got a shitload of space, a huge ass pot for it to eventually reside in (17" wide white ceramic cylinder that's like 2' or so tall), great lighting in a great showcase spot, and I'm really excited. I've got two different sellers privately confirmed to have stock when it warms and I'm completely prepared. I plan on doing a cutting of it at the end of the year so I can grow some outside against my house before it's big and really shows where it has been cut. Are you planning on posting propagation progress videos later on? Are you keeping them or selling them? Do you trade them? Give them to friends? Just curious.
@reallybigplant2 жыл бұрын
ohh my goodness all of the things you said sound like a dream!!! i’m so excited for you to get your maximum, i’m jealous🤩🤩🤩 as for the propagations, I do want to sell some plants this spring/summer😊 Id also like to start doing more plant trades. I usually end up ultimately repotting the propagations and parent plants back together😂 I’ll definitely update on the propagation progress for these. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your giant philodendron plans😄💜💜✨
@Lorenmcdee2 жыл бұрын
@@reallybigplant well hey mention it when you plan to in a video. Idk when my maximum would be ready for a chop and prop but iirc you mentioned you're in San Francisco and I'm just outside of Sacramento. That's pretty easy transit for plants even in the post. If you want a maximum cutting I'd trade for a Giganteum cutting. I'm not a huge collector, but I am putting together a patch in my front yard for my son to play in. This is all hypothetical but it's fun to think about. The philodendron maximum is the largest variety of philodendron afaik

I read that cinnamon is a natural anti fungal agent, so I’ve been using that (when I remember, lol) since I don’t have any rooting powder. Right now, I’m propagating Pothos N’Joy in Sphagnum Moss, and I’m also propagating cuttings of my Monstera Adansonii, and my Red Maranta Prayer plant in water. I’m wondering if you can give me some advice. I just received five Snake Plants/Sansevieria/Dracaena from Succulent Asia today. They’re cold and the roots look dried out, so I thought I’d give them a couple days to acclimate to my house before I pot them up. I did put them in water, in the hopes that the roots will be okay. Do you think that was a good idea to do, or should I cut off all of the roots? I appreciate any advice you have! Thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴🌵

I think i’d do the same as you- leave the snake roots and see if they start to get rotten or weird in the water but sometimes I do think the dead looking little snake plant roots can make a comeback too.
