Your tutorial on how wear and tie a scarf was outstanding and every man should watch this.... Not only are scarves functional but also add style to whatever you are wearing.... 5 STAR video...! Greg👍

I have lots of scarves and wear them all the time during the cold seasons. One time I was told “man, you’re quite old fashioned, scarves aren’t the thing anymore”. I told em, “yeah because the new generations don’t know whatever the heck they’re wearing nowadays, no history - just baggy and sloppy nonsense”. Wearing a coat with scarves is timeless. And even if you have the same coat, it looks like a different one by just changing the scarf. 😊

Loving this video! Living in Southeastern Texas, there seem to be very few opportunities to rock the cold weather scarf. Looking at my closet, I have received gifts of wool and microfiber scarves in brown patterns and in shades of blue. Now, equipped with the skills to tie a scarf (12:03 ), I will find opportunities to add a scarf to my daily wear. Thanks, Antonio!

Also in Southeast Texas. Here, it makes a lot of sense to have a couple scarves for those limited opportunities, but not a large collection. I like to wear a tweed sports coat when it's a little chilly. Therefore, I use a scarf for insulation on my neck and chest, where the sports coat doesn't cover.

Good video. Am reminded of the 1951 Christmas season movie A Christmas Carol when Scrooge played by Alistair Sim is preparing to go outside in the freezing cold and haphazardly drapes a scarf around his neck and flings one end over his shoulder. I still threw one around my neck since I was just walking to the store around the corner, and it was early enough that nobody important would see me slackin on style points lol I need to shop around for something that'll fit in with most of my jackets, so this video came at a very convenient time.

Love this video. I’ve been wearing scarves for years. Still have 4 or 5 and I basically only use about 3 different types of knot (likewise for ties) because there’s just so many! I love the Parisian but it only really works for shorter scarves. The other main one I use I don’t think you included but it’s basically like tying a tie but after you bring the long end through the bank you don’t put it through the loop, it just drapes down. It’s essentially a basic tie knot just minus the last part. Can’t remember what it’s called. The twice around I’ve used on a long scarf but it’s sometimes more than twice…

I am a big fan of simple cravats, often made of a thin or loosely-woven material. Basically a rather small scarf, less bulky, worn tied around the neck similar to a necktie, and often tucked into the shirt. Excellent for keeping the neck warm, but in a less bulky way.

Here’s a bit of (trigger warning) history that I’m sure you know but some of your followers might not (through a lack of interest in history.) ;) Here in New England a lot of older houses have a closet paneled entirely in raw unfinished cedar. Why? Because we used to wear a lot of wool in the winter, and we learned several hundred years ago that moths REALLY don’t like cedar, so storing the wool sweaters, coats and hats in a cedar closet made them effectively immune to moths. “But Random Dude on the Internet,” I hear you say (the historiphobes, that is) “that doesn’t apply to me at all in this Shiny Modern Age In Which I I Live and Where I Have Been Led To Believe Everything Is Just So Much Better!” Au contraire, mes frères. Ever seen those little blocks of cedar being sold by LL Bean or other prep mavens, and just assumed that preppies and flinty New Englanders just have some weird fetish for cedar? Nope. We *also* know that If you store your woolies in a plastic bag or bin for the warm months, and throw in a bunch of those cedar blocks, it has much the same effect. You’re welcome. ;)
@EndtheWokeMadness20 күн бұрын
I used to own a century home with a cedar lined walk-in closet. It was awesome! I never should have sold that house. 😖
@Theoreticaly18 күн бұрын
My understanding from an expert on the topic is that the effectiveness (or importance) of cedar is a *bit* overblown (you don't need to put your wool socks in a cedar chest, for example), but I too have cedar blocks, and even a couple of cedar hangers, in my closet. From a retired carpenter, who gave me those cedar blocks I own, I learned that the smell won't persist indefinitely; You have to lightly sand down those blocks once in a while so that you get to the still-fragrant wood beneath; logically the same would apply to a closet made of the material.
@EndtheWokeMadness18 күн бұрын
@Theoreticaly I can only speak from my experience. I don't know how long the cedar had been there before I bought the house, but the scent remained string for the 14 years I lived there.
@rene-davidduplessis876618 күн бұрын
That’s a good idea for the blocks, but I think it’d take many decades to need to do the same for a closet, or even a cedar chest made for the same purpose. Ours dates to the late sixties, still smells pretty strongly of cedar, and is filled with pretty ancient wool that has no signs of moth damage. The same applies to a cedar chest I have at the end of the bed for the same purpose, so I suspect that if you’re opening it seasonally to pull out the woolies and put them back every spring, the effect will last a lot longer than if you opened the door/lid and left it open for a few months.

I actually do a slightly modified version of the Parisian knot where I first fold my scarf in half lengthwise (so it isn’t so wide and adds a thicker insulating warmth to the neck) then proceed with folding the scarf in half and making the knot.

I know that most men don't get lots of compliments. I've learned the key though, and it's related to this video. Wear things people can compliment. People like giving compliments. If you only ever wear jeans and a t-shirt, even if they look great, a woman you work with can't compliment those without it sounding like she's commenting on your body. But if you wear a gorgeous scarf, and it works with your outfit, men and women will notice it, they'll want to compliment it, and they'll feel like it's something safe to compliment.
@Theoreticaly18 күн бұрын
Well, if you don't compliment others, you certainly can't complain that you're not receiving any yourself. You make a good point, but I'd argue that the core solution is for us men to start complimenting *each other* more, as well as to care about, and put effort into, our appearances and presentation (which is what you're getting at, of course). I've been doing it for years, as have my friends; male culture won't change if men - *individual* men - aren't willing to change it.
@anthonywestbrook215517 күн бұрын
@@Theoreticaly Totally true. Like I said, I live in Seattle, and at least in the groups I've been around, it is normally for us guys to compliment each other. I guess this was just specific advice I wanted to share, because I've always gotten compliments from women, and after hearing other men talk about how rare it is for them, I noticed what was making it work for me.

My scarves are all coloured and patterned to wear with just about anything. Therefore I prefer solid grays, sometimes with light (!) tone in tone patterns like pasleys or stripes. I like a lot of volume around the neck for extra protection and insulation, so they're also relatively wide, going up to completely square shemaghs. Depending on occasion and weather I rather vary the knots and wraps then the colour. "Oh, I didn't even get it, that you're wearing shoes because of your magnificent scarf!"??? That's not my way.

I would argue the same; plastic materials don't properly let your body heat escape, not to mention the environmental reasons for avoiding more microplastics. *But* I think the video is intended for people for whom the notion of even wearing a scarf is a crazy idea, so I think it makes sense for him to have made it accessible and affordable to people with a teenage budget. I would also just save up a little longer and get one out of a natural material, instead. Whether that's normal sheep's wool is completely dependent on the individual; lots of people find it to be unbearably itchy around the neck. A little cashmere in the mix can do wonders, but of course any amount of cashmere will cause the price to sky-rocket. For me that extra money is worth it for a comfortable experience; you only need one scarf, and it's going to last you a life-time.
