@dakotawaalkens73032 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jon for all of these interviews. this one in particular hit home for me because I had a cop that talked some sense into me after I left the Corps and was starting to make some bad decisions. He could have compounded my issues with considerable legal trouble when he found me at my lowest point but he chose to try and talk some sense into me. I listened and took his advice. I got help through the VA with counseling, took a job pushing carts at a hardware store even though I thought it was below me but since I gave it everything I had, I got noticed and was promoted very quickly. I even capitalized on my GI bill and graduated college and married the woman of my dreams a year after that crappy night. that was all twelve years ago. the cop and I stayed in contact and told me that I am the only person he ever knew of in his 25 years of law enforcement that had a good outcome. Some LEO's spend their entire career wondering if they ever really made a difference and that it is tragedy because I am sure if they were sincere and positive, they have changed someone's world at least once for the better. I can also understand how they might be jaded from seeing all of the awful outcomes and repeat offenders they see everyday as I worked in a hospital for many years and got a glimpse of that as well. Thanks again and Please keep these conversation's coming!

They would have us approach their car and would give us topps baseball cards, candy, badge stickers, DARE stickers and pencils. They would even play ball with us for a few minutes. THOSE were good cops. Even our DARE officer was very involved in our community. I remember him being very funny. I hope they’re doing good and are safe.

I think we served the communities better back then. I loved interacting with the people I served and it was fulfilling to help - unfortunately one bad incident with an idiot cop is what makes the news and can undo a lot of good will.

Unfortunately we're losing this fight. 15-20 years ago, it was hundreds of applicants applying for 1 spot or a handful of spots on a department at most. It's completely upside down now. Dozens or hundreds of jobs are open, some departments are struggling to get a single applicant. No one wants the job any more. You know who to thank for that if you've been paying attention the last couple years. Hate to see what becomes of the profession in the next 20 years unless things change drastically.

The blame lies with corrupt cops and leadership along with a failed judicial system that rewards bad and/or illegal behavior by those who swore to uphold and defend the constitution. Officers who take the oath seriously that have the ability to leave personal biases in their lockers before they go out are getting painted with the same paint brush that the corrupt cops are by virtue of the uniform. What was once done in the dark has more than come to the light in the age of cameras. These crimes are being caught on camera by the public and by the cops own cameras which can be seen in the media on a loop. Good and well intentioned people are foregoing applying for the job because they don't want the headache and vitriol because they would wear the same uniform as the undesirables. Department heads only addresses the bad actors when the acts are too egregious to turn a blind eye to. There is very little to no accountability from the heads of some of these departments. Until there are changes from the top as far as weeding out the bad officers (the ones with multiple force/discourtesy complaint) and doing real background investigation on candidates.

Yeah watch a lot of stuff man and you're doing a pretty good job this is a good stuff. Let these guys talk and get deep. My grandpa was a cop for a long time in Seattle and it was a great way to grow up and it was good to see especially seeing what's going on now I got a different perspective and I really appreciate it even though he's not around no more it was really good thing. Everybody just needs to remember when your mom or your sister or brother or somebody's in trouble dad even you know who they call. Warts and all they're coming and they want to help, they want to get the bad guy. We do live in confusing world these days, I still think most of these guys their intent is true and nobody's going to confuse that.

You gotta reach out to Rafael Perez, Brian Liddy and David Mack bro. Now that would be crazy to hear about all the Rampart Crash Stories from the 90s.

At 7:45 I disagree. i was in Medical Supply in the Air Force and I would sometimes have to order cocaine for the pharmacy to make Benzocaine, lidocaine and Novocaine. At that time Uncle Sam paid 7.42c for one ounce of 96% pure cocaine.

You have to get Ken Bell as a guest, he has a lot of experience and knowledge in the gangs. He was interviewed by Colin Noir about his experience
