A duty free fraudster is caught red-handed, borrowing boarding cards to buy more than his allowance of cigarettes. He is arrested, and misses his flight, and has some explaining to do to his wife who's waiting for him in Malta. Following drug hits from some bags, a family from Chile are stopped. Martin interrogates the son using charades, who confesses to use cocaine, but Martin agrees to keep the confession under wraps, to avoid upsetting his boy's parents.
In Gatwick and Bristol Airports in England customs agents check baggage and travellers to uphold allowances and prevent illicit activity and substances from entering the UK.

I'm a Jamaican and I can tell you his story doesn't add up. A 2002 Honda Accord sports version cost around £4000 so 10000 can buy two top of the line version in very good condition. He can get a top of the line Honda Accord 2013 in Jamaica for that amount of cash

@N Fels You know, I’m the states we have something call civil asset forfeiture. When a law enforcement officer finds someone with a large amount of cash they can seize it under civil asset forfeiture. The civil asset forfeiture court cases are often covered by different lawyers who are also KZbinrs. A few months ago I remember a civil asset forfeiture case involving $100,000 being seized from a passenger in an airport by a TSA agent. As it turns out, the money that was seized had a legitimate purpose. The passenger was a B-list movie producer flying out to a filming location. Apparently, the cash was going to be used to pay for day to day operations and expenses during the two week shoot and to provide small bonuses to the crew. In court, the passenger was able to prove all of this and was given his money back plus $16,000 in legal fees. For civil asset forfeiture cases, that is rare. In most cases, the person is out of luck. Ultimately, civil asset forfeiture should be illegal. The same should go for the EU equivalent. Criminal asset forfeiture is still an option. The difference being that Civil is up to the officer and Criminal requires proof. Having cash is not a crime. Having large amounts of cash is not a crime.

On the other hand, in today's world, international wire transfers are reasonably cheap and fast (and much safer from theft compared to cash) - so, carrying large amounts of cash (even well below 10k) can raise reasonable suspicion that the money has an illicit origin or will be used for illecit purposes.
