It's a good thing that Peter Lougheed, who happened to be the only good and sensible Conservative premier in Alberta, created a thing called Hansard. The reason why Peter Lougheed created Hansard is for government accountability and transparency. In the Legislature, it shows how Danielle Smith contradicts herself and is so dishonest on a regular basis. Even if it's not in the Legislature sessions, Danielle Smith has been caught contradicting herself and lying on her own phone in radio talk show or on the UCP's press releases, and even in interviews. Alberta already had the lowest amount of Legislature sittings of any provincial or territorial government in Canada for many years, and Danielle Smith reduced them even more. It's because Danielle Smith didn't want to get caught contradicting herself or lying. In 2023, the Alberta Legislature had only 5 weeks of sessions. It's easy to see that Danielle Smith contradicts herself and doesn't tell the truth on a regular basis.

Peter Lougheed, who was the only good and sensible Conservative premier in Alberta, created something called Hansard. What Danielle Smith said in the Legislature, as the Wildrose party leader, and as the premier of Alberta, is impossible to erase. Danielle Smith opposed the idea of things like government support for carbon sequestration (carbon capture and storage), and any goverment grants for corporations, when she was in politics before. Now she supports them. The fact is that Danielle Smith contradicts herself, and lies on a regular basis. All Danielle Smith does as the premier of Alberta is contradict herself, lie, does very costly debacles, subvert democracy, put people's lives at risk, and has the most bloated provincial government in Alberta's history.

@theowoytowich9959 Here's the thing. When Danielle Smith was in politics before, she opposed carbon sequestration, because she said it was very costly and unproven technology. The Alberta PCs blew $2 billion ocarbon sequestration. In the 2015 provincial election in Alberta, the Wildrose party said they would cancel the Alberta PCs carbon sequestration program. Since the early 1990s, the Alberta PCs were doing many very costly debacles, that never made any money, which didn't help us. Alpac, Novatel, metal smelting plants, pulp and paper mills, like Daishowa and Miller West Pulp, Swan Hills, trying to salvage a sinking shopping mall (West Edmonton Mall), on a failed farmer's aid fund, the well over $30 billion electricity deregulation debacle, the $10 billion Power Purchase Agreements debacle, blew $35 billion on a bitumen upgrader debacle, and so many more. When Danielle Smith was the Wildrose party leader, she opposed giving government grants to corporations. Why is Danielle Smith contradicting herself here, once again?

The problem for the Premier is Albertans know the power crisis in Alberta is because the UCP Premier and the party spent the last four years, shutting down businesses, closing schools, fencing churches, imposing mandates on elementary children, instead of making sure there is enough power generation to keep the lights on, making sure that communities across the province have the funding to fix are aging infastructure. 13 cents a litre to the tax and spend Premier. Someone needs to explain to the UCP that the Average Albertan needs water and power not high speed rail to and Edmonton or to the ski hills in Banff.
@mikearchibald744

We dont know that. What we DO know, if you read enough sources, is that THREE natural gas power producers closed down during the cold snap. What we DON"T know is WHY. Interestingly enough, in Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room they document how Enron called power producers to get them to shut down so they could spike rates. Privatized hydro is said to be killing britain.

Honestly, a high speed rail between Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary could be good... But with the UCP in charge I expect it to be more like Elon's hyperloop. I wish people paid attention to politics here - or didn't cynically use it as a blunt instrument to hurt our country.
@mikearchibald744
@mikearchibald744 13 күн бұрын
@@JonathanSicoli High speed rail is always good, even if its only for the rich to get to ski hills. But the rich dont really like public transit so its going to be for them anyway. The issue with high speed rail is that it almost never goes according to plan. As said above, its not paying attention. And people rarely pay attention to municipal politics-usually for good reason. I lived in Waterloo and got involved to 'clean up the city' because there was graffitti and garbage all over. I STOPPED when at a council meeting and the old guy was there who had painted over horrible graffitti with his own dime and the city said they were going to charge HIM with vandalism if he did it again. He said there were pictures of cocks and horrible slurs all over for MONTHS while kids went to school. Don't care, do it again we prosecute you, and now that you admitted it, if it happens again we are coming for you. Did the same for the garbage people who were showing up at parks and emptying the trash themselves. Trash is 'city property'. Shit like that is why I have little worry about federal politics, which hardly affects me at all. Anyway, back to the point we also had a millenial park to be built for something like 150 million. At the last minute they changed the name to RIM park for the local corporation that hardly exists anymore. Then they changed the walking trails to a golf course 'to try to make some money back'. Turns out NOBODY had read the contract and what we were actually going to be paying for the park was TWICE what we thought we were, twice what even the local council thought we were. That was thanks to ONE reporter who should be given the Order of canada but whose name I dont even remembber but they saved teh city 150 million with their reporting. And when big budget deals come along it should almost be taken for granted there will be botch ups and payoffs. Pictures should be taken of what the main developer is driving both before and after the deal. They should be watched to see how much track is laid each day. In fact, not a bad idea to start a blog or youtube JUST for that. All at least to save the 'aghast response' when somebody points out "They're overbudget and over time". Duh, no kidding, thats practically a given.
@JonathanSicoli
@JonathanSicoli 13 күн бұрын
@@mikearchibald744 Eh, I assume the megarich can just fly in a chopper to wherever they wanna go. The main reason public transport is so important is because it directly, provably leads to a reduction in car traffic and gas usage. And it would be huge for getting between Edmonton and Calgary rapidly, even if it's only for festivals and stuff. 'zero tolerance, tough on crime' policies seem built to lead to this "screw you if you're painting over a swastika" mindset. But this is why it's important to pay attention to local politics, especially council meetings. In the states, the only reason right wing book bans got so much success was because they ran unopposed and nobody else cared. It's a shitshow right now mainly because people are disenfranchised. It seems like you already can see that.

@JEdwarrd In fact, The Breakdown Alberta shows in detail how Danielle Smith contradicts herself and lies so much. That podcast is very in depth with it.

@@deanl6613 thats something else entirely, I don't take ANYTHING online without salt, but frankly, bitching about past politicians, when they are pretty much from your own party, is just weird. But hte tyee is one of the better publications in canada, I wish they would spend more time outside BC, but instead they've chosen to spread out into 'lifestyle' and entertainment kind of reporting.

@@mikearchibald744 Redford is Liberal, she isn't a Conservative. If you knew anything about politics in Alberta, or anywhere for that matter, you'd know that policy and labels don't always match. Need an example? Mulcair is to the right of the head Wacko.

@@deanl6613 Danielle Smith isn't correct on multiple things, and it's also why she didn't last for very long as a public school trustee, as the Wildrose party leader, and as a radio talk show host.
