Chaos consumes a lot of performance, and volumes consume a lot of memory. Are there optimization methods that are practical to apply in actual games?

Chaos is perfectly working in production context. I use it constantly, with some things to keep in mind. The course update has been conceived with techniques that can be applied to production.

Was working with niagara a year ago roughly and it can't hold the candle to houdini, unripe near unusable back then.

It's weird to compare Niagara and Houdini in the first place. They are different things and have different purpose.

@@nekronavt Well obviously they will be using Niagara in this course. Unreal doesn't work without it especially if u wanna feed in houdini effects, this process especially is also a shit storm.

@@nekronavt And yes they can be and should be compared, Niagara is the FX system of unreal after all.

@@yarugatyger1603 Niagara is indeed an FX/particle system of Unreal and is used to create real time effects inside it, while Houdini is a procedural 3d, animation and simulation software with multiple purposes. One of which happen to be generating assets that can be used later in Unreal. Happily using Niagara professionally for 3 years already and saying it's was unusable just a year ago is a bit of exaggeration. Depends on what you want from it I guess.

At the end of the day, these are all just tools.. none has to be superior offer the other.. just use whichever works best with your skill-set And project.. i use both houdini and UE.. depending on my needs i some times render with UE or Karma or Arnold.. they are all just tools, like wrench and sockets to a mechanic
