There's a place for those visually simple games that don't take multiple years to develop, but I've been waiting more than 20 years for photorealistic graphics in games and there's no way I want to see the progress stop now that we're so close. Indie games can be less realistic, but AAA games should definitely aim for photorealism.

@@selohcin Tbf once Unrecord is released, the whole landscape is probably going to change. AAA games won't have their title stand for as long as they did a decade ago and these game companies will definitely have to take their games more seriously. Consumers are the reason why these companies are still standing, which is a shame because passion says otherwise, Unrecord and many other indie studios being the case. Let's hope Unrecord fulfils these expectations.

a guy like me, never used another game engine but Unity, kept himself loyal to it and swore not to leave it behind, sees this progression UE is making as trust-shaking lol. Damn.. everyday it feels even harder to stick to Unity seeing all this.. I mean Unity is great too and I give credit where credit is due of course but fr.. this is something else. Hats off. Now back to recompiling my empty Unity scene for 9885 seconds after adding 1 more letter to my comment in visual studio.

I work in IT as an architect within infrastructure and system design, but a completely different industry. And I always get amazed what the guys in gaming can do. This is some complex stuff, not just the tech which is amazing, but to be able from a process and project lead/tech lead view to be able to make this. Let me tell you, it's not weird it takes many years to create these but in a few years it will take less since the git of all that code can be reused, tanked into ML to learn and then just "upload" this into the next project. Fantastic work.

Incredible!! They have literally just solved the biggest two "problems" I noticed the past few month when playing high end games. Facial expressions were too often still wrong, now it looks close to perfect and also the clothing.. The clothing was in some games really well made, but at certain arm angles from the shoulder it could look very unrealistic and was always plastic. This looks just amazing

I grew up around Super Computers at Cray Research as a kid and now my phone has more computing power than those basements had. My first video game console only played Pong and the controllers were literally just a handheld remote with a dial. Then came 3-D. I can still recall how psyched I was when individual fingers could be rendered and hair was no longer just a solid shape. It's amazing how far graphics and computing power has come.

Any chance that drag and drop ability could be added to Unreal Engine and not just UEFN? It is a nightmare trying to get an animation, import it then have to, replicate it to map it to a new character which take 50 steps, if it works. Then if it works, try and add a face lipsync animation and if it is not done precisely with 40, steps the character ends up like road kill. I have been asking for years for the ability to just drag an existing animation straight onto a metahuman and get on with it.

There is no warmth coming from the barrel of fire, nor the colour grading from the bulbs, the scene just seems only light by the moonlight based on the colouring. Eu fiquei simplesmente maravilhada com o fotorealismo que a Unreal Engine 5.4 conseguiu entregar nessa demonstração do Rise of Hydra. Mas agora o estúdio terá a obrigação de desenvolver esse jogo com a mesma qualidade e o exato fotorealismo demonstrado nessa tech demo. Pela primeira vez na vida eu finalmente me encontrei confusa, sem entender se era gráfico in game, ou se era cena de filme real com atores reais. Esporo que quando for lançado o jogo seja entregue com esses gráficos e não como o Chrono Odyssey, que embora também esteja lindo, ainda não está fotorealista.
