A couple years ago, when I just move to this country (I'm from Mexico) I was in a situation when another hispanic guy tried to disrespect me on the street and all the others guys inmediatelly stopped him and made him apologize. In my country it is so common to be harasser everywhere since you are a little girl that I felt so... weird, nobody ever stood for me. So I told my husband, he is american, and he told me "well, why that guy behaved like a counstruction worker from the 70s". It was the first time I realized this society has progressed a lot. I really don't get that people that cries saying everything is worst when obviously is not, trust me, I saw how things were when I studied american history for my citizenship exam. And definitely it has progressed a lot if we compare with my country or other countries. But I won't get there. My point that probably nobody is going to read is, dear american people, it may not be perfect but you have achieved a lot, there is a reason why so many people want to come to this country. Give your self more credit, because you deserve it and you are on the right path. Keep with the good work.

👍👍👍💞🗽 My friend came from Communist Albania...FLED Albania via the German Embassy in Tirana with thousands in 1990. He told me about Enver Hoxha and his growing up...hes 57 now....Everyone was suspicious of everyone...the 'police' would question you if you weren't a member of Communist party..if you weren't involved outright in support of the party, which he was not you were followed...arrested sometimes(he was arrested and beaten twice...and told to watch neighbors...AND report family...against The Party....someone he knew escaped and he was beaten half to death to get information...he had none....) He stayed in Germany about year and half then to America...after total 7 years he got his citizenship and still says it was the best day in his life. Like you..he had to study American History(oh, the 1st question he was asked when he applied is "Are you or any member of your family a member of the Communist party....we talked about that recently and wondered if that is still a question when coming to America, or also if it's only if you're coming from a country with history of communism.....we wonder often because He sees things happening here in US very similar to communism..Especially "cancel culture" in society amongst citizens and they way people are so eager to gang up on and mob someone in dissent to the Left ideology...esp social media users who post personal private info of those they want taken down and so many people share that post. And also the News Media here that so often is propagated to the left and outwardly vilifies dissent...the division anger and the hunt....just like Albania when he grew up). He knows alot of history and learned about america, like you, for his citizenship...he probably knows more than most americans! I was glad to come across your post and to hear the proof that things have changed here immensely over the decades and that living here is so much better than many many countries where citizens do not have the freedoms and rights built into the law of this land. I personally think also some of our politicians seriously just need therapy for their own set of personal traumas...they seem to be taking their hurt and angry emotions out on an entire country. Glad you are here in America! Hope you and your husband and families are well and good! 💫🗽🙏

Thank U so much about sharing your love & respect for our wonderful country- America! When other Americans have never experienced other countries or styles of government, they have no concept of how we have progressed - things that were not right & just have always been improved & written into law to protect everyone from dictatorship & tyranny. That why I live america.. Our judai/ Christian roots have always corrected mistakes. This is in compared to governments who for power, money, & status, has enslaved people forever, without conscience. Look at Castro, Chavex, Hammas, Mao, Venezuela, the Taliban, Islam terrorist, socialism, Soviet & Chinese Communist of today's world.. Our Americans have gotten so use to freedom that they have no idea how the rest of the World lives . PLEASE all of those foreign IMMIGRANTS WHO HAVE LEGALLY BECOME AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, Don't be afraid to talk to Americans that disrespect america. -especially our young people- tell them what it was like in tryanny. & tell them about the honorable qualities of America. @Gerald DeCaire Why yes, I do. Do you know what else didn’t exists in that era? Employee provided health care, minimum wage, and a host of other regulation that makes labor more expensive. Materials were cheaper for many of the same reasons. Property values are quite literally tied to inflation. That’s the cost of progress. That’s the cost of increasing the standard of living. Cheap labor and materials are a thing of the past. They died with minimum wage crusades and mandatory benefits. They died with Government oversight and regulatory compliance costs. Grandmas house was built with labor that would be illegal today, with materials that helped poison the rivers and deforest the west. You have no room to complain now.

@@jayfree850 this isn't a right-wing perspective, drop that binary; as if any critique equates to conservatism. This video is pointing out the absurdity of claiming social injustices are worse now than they have ever been. Thats it.. Maher even goes to pains to state that recognizing progress doesn't mean mission accomplished, and yes action still needs to be taken.. You can be simultaneously progressive and recognize progress -- thats the whole point being made here.

It's like I've said for many years already: It's not that things are getting worse, it's moreso that technology is allowing us to see all the examples of warped humanity more than before. Just because we see it and hear it more doesn't equate to it being worse than before. Before all the tech we had today, we only saw what was directly around us. Use tech to shine a light on the darkness and continue to make progress, but don't conflate it with us going backwards.

Speaking as a person who was born in the 60's, we have made HUGE amounts of progress, just mind-blowing amounts, in many areas! If someone had told me in the 80's that gay marriage would not only be the law of the land but that people would generally support it, I would not have believed them. I'm a White guy in my 70s. When I was in elementary school in Alabama, there were "white" and "colored" drinking fountains. The Black kids swam in the school pool only on Thurs and Fri (the pool was drained and re-filled over the weekend). When we'd get on the school bus, the driver would say "black to the back". At the time, I was a little kid and none of this seemed wrong. But my Mom (White) explained that it was and that it would change. My Father, a jet fighter pilot, flew B-17s in Europe during WWII. He said the best fighter support they had were the Red Tails--the all-Black Tuskegee Airmen flying the new P-51. But when the war was over, most of these guys who wanted to stay in the Air Force were taken off flying status. And once back in the States, many couldn't eat at the same lunch counter as White folks. My Father told me that this was wrong, and that it would change. The change came about during my lifetime. So come on, progressives, get some perspective.
