Rear chase light installation on 5th Gen 4Runner - Baja Designs S2 Sport and Switch Pros 9100

In this video, I show how I installed a set of Baja Designs S2 Sports on my 2020 4Runner TRD Pro in a rear-facing configuration to be used primarily as chase lights. I discuss my specific set up with my Southern Style OffRoad after market roof rack and my Switch Pros 9100.

Good setup. The overlanding group that I have gone on trips with require amber chase lights like the ones that you installed for dusty or snowy environments. When you have a line of 10 or 20 vehicles kicking up dust, the trailing vehicles can really have a hard time seeing the vehicles in front of them. Amber lights really cut through the dust better than any other color. I also have the Baja Designs S2s. At around $230 a pair, they are kinda pricey. I more recently bought some S2 clones to use as ditch lights from Amazon. I can't speak to their longevity, but they seem to be pretty good quality and comparable in brightness for around $33 a pair.

Wish I could do this on my Prinsu. Tried the same way at first but it hits my hatch, so I ended up mouting it to the sides 😭

How did you join the passenger side wiring to main harness on the driver side? Just splice them in? Clean install and that Switch Pro man...

I spliced them together and covered the connection with heat shrink tubing. I staggered the individual wire splices a bit to keep the harness as non-bulky as possible. Thanks for the compliments!

I'm curious about what black plastic material that you used in-between the rails to hide your wires. What material did you use? Where did you get it? I like your setup and like to hide wires as much as possible.

It was just some scrap plastic that I cut down to size to slip into the channel.

How did you set up the dimming? Also my strobe function on my switch pro is slightly different that yours. My strobe is super fast then stops for a second then gets super fast again. I mounted my switch pro in the exact same spot as yours. Good choice!

The strobe and dimming is configured for each device using the Switch-Pros app.

Can you change the speed of the strobe on the app? I only see 1 touch strobe/ strobe or flash

Awesome install! Is there a difference using 14g vs 16g wire?

I would recommend doing some research to determine the appropriate wire gauge based on the amperage of your lights and length of wire needed. There are plenty of sites on the web that provide wire gauge calculators.

I don’t remember exactly how much I used. The wire is pretty cheap so I’d recommend getting more than you need to minimize any additional splicing.
