The old shocks look like Monro-Matics, monroe’s economy line. As far as the rust goes, that is nothing! I had to use a jack and a breaker bar to loosen the nuts on the rear shocks on my 88 chevy 1/2 ton, what 30 years of Minnesota winters and 181,000 miles can do!

Upper Shock Bolt removal is a BitX&% due to me having replaced my OEM '67 coronet fuel tank for a new afternarket one, which restricts ability to stick a wrench to remove the nut (20mm wrench) from the inside against the wall,,,so i had to keep the wrench on the nut on the inside (from top) and easily using a socket 19mm to remove the bolt. Utilized KYB-Gas-Adjust shocks once again..had replaced the rear shocks in 30 yrs ago (1989) back then the KYB's were white...Now they are grey... Had to brush off any spiderwebs from the car's underside beforehand. Hindsight 20/20 i should have drilled a 1.5" hole from the trunk right where the upper shock bolt would like up.

Honestly I swapped the S6 with a huge 360 V8... Not sure if you have the same oil pan. Can't remember the stock oil pan and if the K member was in the way at all or not.

You put the shocks then cut the wire no need to compress the shock.
