The rear spark plugs are blocked by the intake plenum. Step-by-step process on shifting the plenum out of the way to get to replace the spark plugs. This was done on a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5L engine.

You guys are special. Thank you. I was a car mechanic from 1956-1962. Only worked on family cars since then. I bought that 2004 Hyundai.Santa Fe 3.5L New. At 82 years old I would never have attempted to change the plugs, without your video. Just finished today. What a challenge working on today"s vehicles. Guys like you really do make this world a better place.😁❤

That challenge is why car engines last 300,000 miles now , instead of 100,000..Cars bult in the 50's, 60's and 70's looked good, but they were problematic junk, compared to today's cars...

@@bobcuster8930ya, but it took about five minutes to do the plugs in my old Chevy truck. Motor in and out with a complete rebuild in a couple of days. The way things last now if you take care of them is a marvel

To get a mechanic to take care while doing the job. Removing clips, hoses, Oooo GOD help. Today in my case I've had uncaring mechanics u know converter belt mechanics get on and next quickly ones. That's why my car is in need now rushed jobs. I do need the plugs done and change the wires so while the cover is off I will change the gasket. But don't have a mechanic and now seeing what goes into it. Even the dealerships are not that careful. Gezzz getting to the plugs is the problem. Doing the plugs looks easy great. My fault not seeing the plugs before buying.

Yeah, I didn't want videos with a lot of gabbing...plus, if trying to work on a vehicle while watching videos on a smartphone, you can't hear it anyway. Kinda wanted to make a video-manual "hybrid" so it would be easy to follow along. Some like it, some don't...can't please everyone. I will make more, but the girl who owned the Santa Fe completely destroyed it in a wreck, so now I have a "guinea pig" Escape I am going through right now. Thanks for watch, Dan...hope it helped!

My 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe is in the shop right now, for a wire that a friendly Pack Rat ate, the car is now there for timing belt problems, the mechanic asked me if I wanted to have the plugs replaced while the plenum is off, I told him NO, tomorrow I will tell him YES. Great video, thank you.

@@GreaseMonkeyFever BTW, was there audio with that video? I watched it from various sources & never heard any thing.
@GreaseMonkeyFever3 жыл бұрын
No, there is no audio. I decided when I first started these to have a "manual-video" hybrid format. When I used KZbin to fix my cars, the person usually rambled on, wasn't clear, was vague, mumbled, had a thick accent, etc. And sometimes they had annoying music. I decided to make my vids work more like a manual...with moving pictures. They're designed so that someone can take their smartphone or laptop and just follow along right at the car. They can listen to their own radio...and don't have to worry about ambient noise interference. The pace is enough to where if someone paused, they can start again without having to miss anything. I try to provide visual detail over explanations. Even a person with hearing problems can fix their car. Some people are taken back by this format...some thank me for making them this way. Again, Howard, thanks for watching!

I am replacing my valve cover gaskets and this is best video to get me to that point thank you. Anyone thinking of doing this yourself you better have some special tools to get the back 7 plenum bolts out. It is very tight and hard to get leverage to break them loose. I don't know if that tool he is using will fit and work for all, it is expensive so I didn't buy one. If you have one you will need it. It's all by feel you can't see them. PITA! There will be brittle plastic on connectors so be very gentle with them. Very gentle. Also you may want to invest in the hose pliers he is using. PITA without them. Be prepared to buy new hoses for ones that are brittle and break. Took me 4 hours to get the plenum off. I am not a novice. Been working on cars for decades and have a lot of great tools. This is a bitch of a project without the right special tools.

@GreaseMonkeyFever4 жыл бұрын
Glad the video helped, Ryan. If you're going to work on your own vehicles, it really does help to invest in a GOOD impact wrench. They can be expensive, but it will prove to be the most valuable tool in your arsenal. But you can soak the O2 sensor with PB Blaster and let it work into the threads for a couple of hours. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for this instructional video. Saved me $400 from mechanic work. Here are some notes from my work. - The Clip at the 5:01 mark can be removed by using a flathead screwdriver and pressing down on the clip in the groove slot softly from the side closest to the plenum. Use your finger on opposite hand to apply soft pressure to keep the clip steady then grab the clip. For Re-inserting the clip, slide the clip into the groove starting from the side facing away from the plenum, then push the other side up into place. I didnt have a magnet to catch the clip so I had to improvise. - The mounting bolt on the EGR Valve that screws into the plenum is slightly longer than the other 4 mounting bolts. - Separating the throttle body from the plenum is/was helpful as well. The 4 bolts are 10mm that need to be removed. You can also unbolt the harness on the plenum at 16:47 (located on left side of the screen) for easier removal of the plenum. Stock connections were very tight on my 2006 variant so I had to unbolt that harness as well. I ended up having to disconnect the cables and tubes running into the throttle body on the drivers side of the plenum as well. This excellent walkthrough is applicable to all 2004-2006 3.5L V6 engines. Again, Thank You So Much!

That clip is the dumbest thing...they could've easily put it on top, so it could be removed and replaced easier! Lost the first one...went to the pick-it-yourself junkyard and got another. The tape thing was a desperate move not to repeat losing it...worked pretty well. Wait 'til you have to replace the alternator...that's a ball of joy as well! Again, thanks for watching!
