Agreed that a wiper is needed but the coatings help. I've been using Griots Garage Glass Sealant 11033. It's great for the rain and water drop stains similar to the rainx stuff. Great video once again. Thanks!

I just ordered a 2023 Ioniq 5 in Europe, where they offer a digital rear view mirror as an option. The camera for the rear view mirror is installed on the underside of the spoiler over the rear window. I haven't actually tried it but it seems like it would solve most of the problems That being said, a real rear wiper would still be nice to have.

@@vfntThis was offered as an option for any trim level in the EU, but shortly after ordering they vehicle, the dealer told me that they would not be able to deliver the digital rear view mirror... So unfortunately I ended up getting an Ioniq 5, but without the digital rear view mirror... It seems to be possible to get it on the newly announced 2025 refresh of the Ioniq 5. In the mean time I'm contemplating adding a "Wolfbox" dashcam, which includes a digital rear view mirror as the dashcam display.

I use Aquapel on all my windows. When it starts raining I don’t even have to use my front windshield wipers. One coating lasts about 6 months.

Hyundai’s solution to the rear window visibility is to use rear view cameras in mirror. It’s already slated for the 2023 Ioniq 5. Although it’s only available on the Limited trim. So not sure what they are thinking on the lower trims.

I wasn’t that impressed with the Rain X CeramiX hybrid cleaner and repellent. So far I liked the Turtle wax ceramic spray coating. It works fairly well on the rear window of my Ioniq 5. You might want to try the new Stoner Invisible Glass Hybrid Ceramic Rain Repellent & Glass Cleaner. This product is online only directly from Stoner.

rain is not my main concern. winter road grime is. specially up here Canada. salt, sand slush will stick and dry in the window so without a nozzle and wiper... 🤔 how was you experience with road grime and the turtle wax product? thx and cheers

Thank you for the video. Oddly enough, in the video, the RainX side looks clearer in the rearview mirror view (around 2:15) but the Turtle wax side looks clearer in the direct view (around 2:36). This may just be camera effect; I trust your take on it. BTW, I heard Hyundai is planning to add a wide angle rear view camera on 2023 upper trim models, which should address the back window visibility issue, though I agree with you: just give us a wiper back there already!! Finally, the Tesla Model 3 has no rear wiper (though it has more of a slope in back. maybe that's the distinction) I have not heard complaints about the Model 3 in this regard.

Have you considered a ceramic coating? I'm considering it, both to protect the paint, but also because they're also hydrophobic, and dry transparent, so they're safe to use on the windows and mirrors. Seems like a good investment for $150, and can last for years, depending on the number of coatings at initial application. I'm looking at 3M's solution, and I tried to provide a link to it, but I think KZbin is withholding my comments on the basis of assuming it's marketing spam. Anyway, wondering if you've considered a ceramic coating?

I had my car coated by the dealership - body and glass. It does nothing to stop grime quickly building up on the glass. I use washer and wiper on the front screen while driving course, no remedy for the rear.

After a month and using the above product I'm ordering Hydrophobic film through Amazon. It comes in various sizes for side windows and mirrors. the side sheets could be combined for the rear. I'll post an update later.

@@TheIoniqGuy its the same stuff you can use on your side mirrors, but on eBay you can buy like huge sheets of it. Some used it on bathroom mirrors. Wonder if this would work for the back window issue. No sure how long something like this would last with the sun beating on it.

Because it doesn't think anybody is using it so it's conserving power. You can simply press the OK button on the steering wheel if you don't want it to do that.

I"m driving the ioniq 28 and its lack of a back wiper in the winter is a problem. It is one of the reasons I didn't order the ioniq 5.

So long as your side mirrors work, that covers the vast majority of what you need to see out of the rear. I keep a windscreen spray in the car with a little hand held wiper,20 seconds and it's clean again. The cars multitude of sensors and cameras take care of the rest. The wiper problem is overblown

Cars below the ultimate spec have fewer cameras and sensors. If rear view mirrors weren’t needed for safety manufacturers wouldn’t install them and not using your rear view mirror constantly wouldn’t be a fail in the driving test.

@@ChrisWhittenMusic i have a work vehicle with no rear window, and a Z4 with no rear wiper either, 95% of what you need to see out the back is done with side mirrors. Sure it might have been nice to have one, but it's not a big deal. Granted i have an ultimate spec, but half the senors you can do without to be fair. Safety is good and all that, but I've been driving cars successfully without all that stuff for 30 years

@@ChrisWhittenMusic That's not any kind of slam dunk is it? If you have mirrors you should use them. But the law says, you can obscure your rear window, as long as you have two fully functioning side mirrors. What do you see out of the back window, that you don't see from the sides? With the exception slow manoeuvres like reverse parking? Even the basic I5 has reversing cameras and sensors. The camera can be turned on anytime while driving. It would be a very rare circumstance where your rear window was so dirty you couldn't see anything out of it on a single trip. Look at any van, small or large, almost all of them rely on side mirrors. I give mine a quick clean once a week, and not just the bits a rear wiper would reach. All is good with the world 👌

@@guybrushthreepwood3002 I find the i5 side mirrors quite small. Yeah, within 20 minutes on our roads (in rain) all I can see is vague shapes through the rear screen. The rear camera is usually equally dirty when that happens. It's a £50k car, not a van. If no one REALLY needs a rear view mirror, then car makers should stop installing them.
