My Lotus Elise has a flat floor and a diffuser. Nice to hear it described as a supercar/exotic!

Lotus Elise is an exotic
@22Wook4 жыл бұрын
@@TurboAfterlifeRacing Perhaps. Although it's got the engine from a Celica in it, so I reckon exotic might be pushing it.

I'd also say the fact that it's from Norfolk counts it out, but I guess McLarens hail from Woking.

Don't put yourself down mate, the Elise is British engineering at its finest! Although I wouldn't call it a supercar, they can be just as fast on the right tracks, so still formidable 👍

Thanks Andrew and Andrew ! keep up the great work!

S3 RX7, when mazda added their small rear spoiler, lift dropped 70% which is pretty good for a small addition. As for diffusers, many have proved a diffuser does work without a flat floor, but, will work much better with a flat floor. My own fd found a whole lot of under steer when I added the rear diffuser and and others noted the rear squat in the car it didnt have before going down the straights. 3 sessions were the same. Other drivers complained of lack of rear end grip during those sessions, my only issue was front end grip I hadnt encounted before. Last session I removed it, no more under steer. Next meeting, added diffuser AND front splitter, car was relatively neutral again, no float floor. Sure there could have been other factors, but it certainly seemed to us the diffuser created rear downforce and changed the balance of the car.

The endplate prevents the air from the high pressure zone above reaching the low pressure zone below within the aeroactive zone for downforce of the wing. Not the other way as you said. But I guess that is what you meant.

Thank you ! For this enlightening, informative, thorough very well explained discourse that answered so many of my questions. Fantastic ! One question...@ 19:03 , you stated the low pressure under the wing wants to spill around the side into the high pressure (on top of the wing). Isn't it the other way around ? Wind tunnel tests show the flow going from the high pressure topside around the side of the wing to the low pressure downside, and thence creating vortices.

This is why I replaced my lower rear bumper valance of my mk4 Jetta GLI body kit with the stock one, cuz the stock one is higher and lines up perfectly with the bottom of the trunk floor, which is also angled up from the rest of the car like a little diffuser. Next stop, fat lip spoiler and rear aero is done. This coupled with the low front GLI bumper with the side vents blocked off makes the car very slippery and stable at highway speeds, enough to feel the difference. Eliminating lift makes a huge difference! 👌

Lowered my bonnet as mentioned in the last comment section. No longer have to have my fans on when highway cruising. Used to always have to have at least 1 fan on. (180SX with AU Thermos), mind you, doesn't look as cool :P May I suggest we talk materials and brands next episode?

The other major factor with rear wings, efficient or stalled, is the centre of pressure, think of an arrow or a dart, moving the centre of pressure rearward will make it more stable, the faster you go, the more stable you are. This is the same principle the shark wing on the Porsche uses at WTAC and the fins that were on F1 cars a couple of years ago.

Regarding diffusers, what about ones like the vspec R34's? They don't have a flat floor, but the diffuser extends past the diff a little bit. Surely Nissan wouldn't have added it to the v-spec's unless they were functional.
@MotiveVideo4 жыл бұрын
Nissan has engineers using CFD design and wind tunnel testing. Like we said. It needs to be designed to suit a car. It's not very serious amount of downforce. Enough to make the more stable
@gt4lex4 жыл бұрын
@@MotiveVideo Some R34s actually have kind of a flat floor, with 2 pannels on each side, just leaving an opening for the exhaust heat not to be trapped. I assume the V-Spec has it. Now it would be nice if you could talk more about flat floors, especially how you manage and balance the potential heat retention and diff cooling issues on FR cars.

Is the N1 lip spoiler different from the lip spoilers I’ve seen on most r32 GTRs? Or is there only one type of genuine Nissan lip spoiler? I found the part number 96032-RJR21 and this K6032-06U00 on the Heritage website. Are they the same part or is one an N1 and ones normal Nissan?

Decreasing air under the car creates a negative pressure under the car making air wanting to enter under the car essentially creating a vacuum making the car sucked to the ground if you continue to prevent air from entering underneath the car.
