-----------------------------
In this video join me (and Joli) for a super long 2 hour plant chores video! I imported some plants recently and they've not all acclimated as planned, so some major plant rehabilitation is in order. There have been lots of plant to do's recently - repotting, watering, dusting, pruning, propagating, repotting, potting up and soooo much more. My plant chores have been getting on top slightly recently and I've been feeling a bit burnt out and overwhelmed by all my plant care. I talk about plant burnout in this video, and some of the things I do to stay motivated when it comes to caring for my houseplants. Thank you to everyone who asked questions, and I really hope you enjoy the video!

Hey Claire, anthuriums don’t prefer to be root bound - they can actually go up a pot size or two quite regularily. It promotes bigger foliage 💙
@warp871
@warp871 5 ай бұрын
Agree :) speeds up the maturing process as well if you do it from seedling stage. They can take generous pot size ups. The cataphylls will appear much faster. Small pots can trick them to flower sooner if that matters but i much prefer giving the roots room

Yes, they don’t mind a snug fit, but definitely don’t like being root bound.

I've heard very mixed things about this... I've heard that because they're epiphytic using a slightly smaller pot can help to mimic how they'd naturally grow. But then again, I've been doing things this way for a while and had lots of struggles with Anthuriums, so maybe I should change things up!

I thought a spider was hanging from your right underarm area of your sweater when you were repotting your new plants and I watched it dangle there the whole time. I was waiting for it to like, crawl up onto your arm and surprise you. 😮 Not guna lie, I was a little worried at first and said, “oh no!! You’ve got a spider on you!! Grab it Claire!” ….but it just continued to dangle and clearly wasn’t a spider at all… 😂😂😂 hahaha

Hi Claire, there are certain maturity stages to the anthurium flowers that refer to maturity of the plant itself. Basically your anthurium flower skipping the female stage and going straight to the male one means that the inflorescence itself is quite immature. As the plant matures, the inflos will too and the next one will do better. Let’s say second or third next one should have both stages. This used to happen to my clarinervium. I went through the plant maturing enough to switch from petiole to cataphyll stage when it comes to putting out leaves and in the same time it started to give me inflos. They were dying rather quickly or didn’t develop fully until the plant matured some more. There’s no reason to worry, such process/progress is natural 😊

Those white plant shelves are great to put your plants on. For small - medium plants. Bigger and taller plants feels awkward on shelves so i usually put them in there own place in a corner spaces of the home. Another reason i don’t do plants on poles and trellis as takes up too much space. I like to be able to use my home space without plants overtaking my home. I would go crazy and be so stressed. Also i got to think about the people i live with too. I will be back travelling again since Covid has died down and kinda back to normal. So i will be owning plants that can last without watering for a long time which i will only own in the future and more easy going plants. Another reason i don’t grow tropical and adroids. I only grow Hoya’s, Cacti, Succulents and Sansevieria’s now this year.

If you didn’t have the door in the way, you can actually use the spare shelves on that shelving unit and connect between the shelves. In effect, this gives you three shelves for the price of two.

Suggest move left shelf over to the right more and put dubia before up against the curtain? I think if i have size of shelves correct then you will still have 1 clear door/window and a nice green backing to the shelf..see how it looks might make the shelves not look aligned but worth a look as it would put it out of walkway but give it a space of its own in front of the window

Hello and thank you, I love these more relaxed videos so yes please keep inviting us along with plant pottering. The plants look great on the shelves, I know that when I felt my plants looked a little busy, I changed the cash pots to the same colour (white but all different textures, shapes and sizes) with occasional special pots mixed in felt calmer, more cohesive and let the plants ‘pop’, also all from the local charity shops as well so not too pricy and all to a good cause. 🪴 ❤

I think it will be better if u mix soils insteed of making layers. I use lots of bark to make airy feel. Roots of anthurium loves hug bark. Semi hydro mix is to heavy for anthurium. I use lots of bark plus small grid from fish shop plus tiny add of soil and little perlite. On top i add moss . You can see how nice roots grow in moss. Moss give them lost of air pocket and constant wetness. They hate sit in water. So water must just go out of them almost complitly after watering time. It is better water them even twice at week and let water out then water one a week and let water stay in pot after watering. They love space so repot faster than philodendrons (don't wait for root bond).

Hello Claire, did you try propogating in Fluval Stratum. It Works soooo good. It's basicly the same system as the semi hydro you do. Fill a cup with the stratum, fill it up with water little bit more than half the cup. It goes really great in short time. I do also a little drup of Super Thrive in the water for the roots to be stronger. Like your video's a lot!!! grtz from Belgium 🤩

I to ordered macrame cord for hiding the original container. Hiding all the odd containers works wonderfully creating a shelf art of various shapes and sizes. My plants are also more highlighted.

love your videos, your are just so nice to listen to and I like your stile (video and also interior/personal), also Ross is a fun addition, nice so see him pop in ever now and then. wow that fridek with the greenish-white leaf has such a big leaf, is that it´s first one? All my alocatia babys start with tiny leaves. But the colour is really fun, reminds me of a minth variegation, I´m very curious to see how the next leaves will look. I also have 2 babay fridek right now, one is completely white (3 tiny pure white leaves so far) guess it won´t make it but I keep it until it dies or grows some green. The other one is alternating white and nicely variegated leafers (4th leaf comming in right now), so there is hope it will be ok.

My regale also came from a private local seller as a massive chonk, I'm wondering if they just get a really thick base?

I have a var Frydek in fluval and it is busting out of it's cache pot! It already has roots down into the reservoir. What do you recommend?? I don't have any larger pots and as soon as I pot it up larger the roots just explode again! Do I just let it be cramped? It is actually bending the plastic. Thank you!

Never got a corm to sprout. I need to get my plant game together! Sooo sad after Brexit (just because, it was easy to get things from and to the UK, from Denmark, before) even “tower” pots is hard to get. Love your content, it’s always on when I do planty-things. :)

For me it works like a charm the shallow water method. Had a corm in moss starting to rot, transfered it to a small cup with a bit of water at the bottom and in about 2 days it was pushing roots.

Claire, what temperature do you have next to your windows/balcony door? I have perfect spot for my moss poles, but there's around 15°C at night 😢

Most plants do fine with a slight drop in temperature at night. I'd have thought that area of my home probably drops to a similar level...

Help! I just got a glorious cutting but it was in transit for about a week and a half in the cold. It was a little damaged, I cleaned everything with water and peroxide but it keeps getting bits of mold even with air flow... 😢 Any advice?

Do you mean the leaf or the chonk? If it's the leaf I'd personally chop it and prop from a wetstick, however if it's the node itself I would prune right back, HP and leave to callous in a fairly dry space
@joscreen3252

@@TheJungleHaven it's just the chonk. It gets bits of fluffy mold in multiple places, some parts are a bit shriveled as well.

@TheJungleHaven

If it's just the odd leaf here or there it's likely nothing to worry about and just the life cycle of the plant. If it's dropping lots of leaves, first port of call would be to check the roots and make sure they're healthy IMO

If I'm a hoya n I come from the soil level, looking up a trellis, wouldn't counter clockwise mean from right, go over the trellis, go left, go under the trellis? 🤔

It's not a flipped image. Imagine you're standing above the thing you're winding it round and looking down on it like a clock face
