Excellent clarification my Brother. Thank you. You know , I've noticed for years now that the same sins plaque us for thousands of years. This sin of doing what is right in my own eyes has been adressed since the days of Moses. " You shall not do as we are doing today , everyone doing what is right in his own eyes "..Deut. 12:8 100 years later in the book of Judges this topic is talked about 7 times in that one book. " Everyone did what was right in their own eyes " This spiritual anarchy is definitely against the will of God. This individualism and self centeredness has spilled over from the secuiar world into the Church. Thanks once again Micheal for clarifying that scripture is not up for personal interpretation thats why Jesus gave us a magisterium to be His voice and guide us into eternal salvation. You have given me much to consider and affirmed alot of what is in my heart but couldn't find the words or precedence for.

I feel strongly that the President is wrong, therefore I will not voice my opposition to his bad decisions and go back home and watch the news and do nothing. How does this help the Catholic Church or Makes sense? "can't let god do all the work" is my counter argument.

Wow. Just wow. Quoting Pope Leo XIII from over 100 years ago. This video *greatly* strengthened my belief that there are factions in the church that act against the will of God. I will follow the teachings of our Holy Mother Church. I can say with certainty that my looking into the TLM is completed. While I do love hearing the Liturgy in Latin, I think desperately clinging to the 1962 Missal is an error. I'll continue to teach myself Latin. I'll work to follow people like Paul Rose of Sing the Hours to improve my Latin and my Gregorian Chant. I'll try to get to where I can pray the minor hours of the Divine Office in Latin. I'll teach my children to pray in Latin. Never again; however, will I accept a criticism that Vatican II was a mistake or that it somehow "watered down" Catholicism. God bless and keep you.

Michael made such a good point when he said when the magisterium speaks, it’s our job to listen and learn. When we think we can teach the teacher, we’re in a lot of trouble. Maybe it’s because I’m a new catholic but I don’t want to be in charge! Before going Catholic last year, I was so frustrated. I’d think my theology was just about centered and boom Something else would come up and I’d go back to the drawing board. I tried just about every Protestant theology and none of them really work. It’s insane to think there are Catholics that don’t submit to the magisterium and try to do their own private theology. It’s the worst part of being a Protestant, why on earth would you use their example to improve on the magisterium? Imagine the pope was subject to all of us, our whims, our desires at any given time, what if there were way more like father Martin than bishop Strickland? What if the German bishops got to vote on doctrine?

Thank you Michael. Out of the twelve Apostles, Jesus, who is God, changed the name of Simon to Rock (Peter) because He wanted to build His Church on the immovable Rock, not on sand (Matthew 7:24-27). Many Catholics think that the Pope is "sand" but no, he is not. You reader and me can be sand, but the successor of Peter is the Rock upon's Christ Church was build because he possesses the same authority given to Peter. Here are other Magisterial teachings on the Papacy as a sure and safe guide: "This authority, however, (though it has been given to man and is exercised by man), is not human but rather divine, granted to Peter by a divine word and reaffirmed to him (Peter) and his successors by the One Whom Peter confessed, the Lord saying to Peter himself, ‘Whatsoever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound also in Heaven‘ etc., [Mt 16:19]. Therefore whoever resists this power thus ordained by God, resists the ordinance of God" - (Unam Sanctam). “Moreover, that every human creature is to be subject to the Roman Pontiff, we declare, we state, we define, and we pronounce to be entirely from the necessity of salvation.” - (Unam Sanctam, 1302; confirmed by the Fifth Lateran Council, 1512-1517). "This gift of truth and never-failing faith was therefore divinely conferred on Peter and his successors in this see so that they might discharge their exalted office for the salvation of all, and so that the whole flock of Christ might be kept away by them from the poisonous food of error and be nourished with the sustenance of heavenly doctrine. Thus the tendency to schism is removed and the whole church is preserved in unity, and, resting on its foundation, can stand firm against the gates of hell." - (Pastor Aeternus Chapter 4 n 7; Vatican I).

I’m praying for Josh! Go sit with Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament. You don’t have to be officially Catholic to do this. Most churches have a key code to access it. Eucharistic adoration is what pulled me out of the SSPX. When they told me I could potentially be committing idolatry because it was consecrated by their priestly hands I knew they were liars.

JoshV, what you are experiencing is a test of faith. Every believer must pass through that phase. You are experiencing that because God is purifying your faith. If you pass that test of faith, God's reward for you is He will increase your faith in Him and other graces. But if you fail in His test, your faith will either be decreased/lost partially or totally lost depending on the degree of your failure in God's test of faith for you.

I went also through that stage when my faith was still new. I had experienced great doubt and confusion with the catholic faith despite the fact that I had already read many books about the catholic faith like the lives and writings of saints, church history etc. There were thoughts in my mind of leaving the Catholic Church and embracing protestantism. I really had suffered much at that time. But I continued praying esp the prayer that I saw in a catholic bookstore, "Teach me Your ways, O Lord, guide me in Your truth and lead me to Your path". After a certain period, that trial of faith or great doubt/confusion disappeared and I felt my faith in God increased and other graces. I passed God's test of faith by His grace. Praise be to God!

@marietav7342
@marietav7342 10 ай бұрын
After that trial, I still have experienced different tests of faith, different levels of test because testing our faith is a way of God purifying our faith in Him. I am still passing through many tests of faith. God's test of faith in us will continue until our faith is completely purified or our faith is already 100%. BUT it is not without respite or there are intervals of spiritual consolations or a break from those tests. Go to the Blessed Mother Mary and other saints for help if you experience a test of faith for you not to lose your faith when God is testing your faith.

Michael, would you be interested in reviewing/critiquing OnePeterFive's recent article titled "Is There a Charism of Infallible Safety?" I found the author well intentioned (he tried the steel man the case he disagrees with), but he falls short in a couple areas. Namely, he cites Pope Honorius teaching heresey in a letter to a Bishop (not to the universal Church) as an argument against the charism of Safety...

Yet another masterpiece of sheer brilliance. This should be Catholicism 101 but unfortunately it isn't. Kind of having defended the Magisterium in the particular, with regards Fiducia Supplicans, you have taken a step back to take a much larger view of the whole question. Placing the document in the context of how Catholics are to view the authority of the Magisterium. Absolutely delighted that you have surpassed your 70 000 subscriber target, Michael. You did it the hard way. Not by "clever" clickbait, or dramatic headings, or generating controversy for it's own sake, but by reasoned argument. Based on documents. Who'd have thought there was a market for that? There is. People are crying out for the truth. For sanity. For rationality. Bishop Fulton Sheen: "If I wanted to be on the front page of the New York Times tomorrow, all I'd have to do is criticize Pope Paul VI." That wasn't meant to be a "how to" guide but it seems many "traditional" Catholic channels have mistaken it for one! I think in the end, they will fade away. Your channel will grow, Michael. You will pass 100 000 before you even know it.

Michael, Good job. For a few years I have been pointing out to traditional dissenters that if you throw out the Magisterium (bishops and pope) you have no sure guide to the truth. I didn't realize I was paraphrasing Leo XIII. Do you have the pope quote where it is said that public dissent from papal teachings is grave matter. One of the arguments I have seen against trusting the pope the way you argue is a dissenter will say we are not ultramontanists. How do you square your interpretation of Leo XIII and Pius X and XII with this idea of ultramontanism? Maybe a future video.

As in the Old Testament, in which God communicated in a special way through Moses and the Prophets, though, of course, He can (and did) communicate directly with others, too, so, too, in the New Covenant: while God can and does communicate with all of us, the sure guide He has given us, the guide through which we are able to discern if a purported message from God to us is authentic or not, is the Magisterium. This is simply how God has established His Church. It has nothing to do with whether or not some persons are "first tier" children of God and others "second tier", it is simply a matter of roles in the Church.

Michael Lofton is sure inspired by the Holy Spirit by his faith in the Pope. Consider this, Christ told the crowd to eat his flesh and drink his blood but the Jews questioned him how could that be so the Jews including his disciples left him but he didnt explain.Jn.6:52-68. However, Jesus at the last supper with only the 12 apostles Christ demonstrated how to eat his flesh by changing the bread into his body.Mt.26:26-29. Pope Francis followed the same pattern by being silent in spite of so many attack against blessing of same sex couples.

I agree whole-heartedly and intellectually too, but do I have to accept what the Pope and the Magisterium say about climate change and taking the covid vaccine?

The Holy Father never said we are obligated to take the vaccine. Statements on climate change are to be believed to the extent that they are connected to faith and morals; to the extent that they are related to scientific opinions, they are not binding. I believe Michael has a full video on this.

Hey Michael, great video. Have you heard about the new picture of a statue of St. Peter in Argentina that had the keys blown off by lightning? I think its pretty obviously fake, but a lot of people seem to be buying into it, might be a good topic for a video. Happy New Year!

I suggest watching the video and engaging with it before letting fly with a comment. No shame, I've done it before, we've all done it.

If you mean by dogma definitive teachings, no, but they are supposed to be submitted to and obeyed either way.

Can you address the confusion that Fidiciua Supplicans has caused, especially the paragraph on blessing 'same sex couples'. Please, Lofton, you have to admit that is very loose and irresponsible language. The DDF should have forseen the high possibility of confusion and express themselves better. Surely not everyone who's confused is so because of their bad faith or poor comprehension skills. That paragraph and the DDF bear some responsibility for the confusion generated. How often do we use the word 'couple' in reference to romantic couples to just mean 2 persons??? That's silly. The DDF should have defined its terms. The failure by the DDF to discuss the meaning of 'blessing' as 'divine or Church approval ' was a notable and irresponsible omission. The document should have just used the word 'repentance' instead of that long and verbose sentence which tend to mean just that.

@ReasonandTheology Which criticism do you have against the document? You seem to be of the opinion that it is perfect which is misleading. The Document is orthodox when charitably read and understood. However some of its wording is directly responsible for some of the chaos created. That language of 'blessing same sex couples' is extremely careless, loose and dangerously irresponsible. The document is also lacking in sensitivity when it comes to churches in other places like Africa for example. LGBT propaganda and dissenters are particularly a western issue. In Africa, it s a non issue and phrases like 'blessing same sex couples ' are extremely scandalous there.
