OMG I wanna go to Belfast sooo bad when I eventually get to Ireland. YES, carbonara is the shit! Haha!

not being rude but it's doesn't seem too #balanced to be so focused and place so much importance on food and whether you are eating 'balanced' or not because it kind of defeats the purpose. We need to eat to live, in the end we all die so as long as you are healthy there's no need to get too obsessed with ensuring you are eating 'balanced'.

Melanie, I don't know if you'll read this, but I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU. You are one of the most important reasons why I have begun to improve my relationship with food after suffering from anorexia for a few years now. Watching your videos and hearing you talk about topics like these have really helped me gradually become less scared of food and actually start to appreciate my body for what it is. Thank you, and please always be amazng :) xx

I originally started eating healthily purely for weight loss, but after doing it for quite a while now I can't imagine going back to living off just unhealthy food. I still love me a nice takeaway every now and then but It's so true that once you start eating better and then eat some sort of junk food or whatever, you notice such a difference in how your body reacts! If I have like Pizza or something but eat a lot of it I get this weird food hangover the next day! xx

I'm so glad you're promoting a balanced lifestyle. It's ok to have desserts or sweets or whichever thing you crave. I eat healthy for the most part and it's always something that makes me feel better or give me energy. If I'm craving something like sweets or popcorn, I'll eat that too. It's all about the balance for me. I always get, for want of a better term, "harassed" about what I eat (meaning that I'm only skinny because because I don't eat a lot of sugary things), but I eat constantly. It's like people can't believe that one could possibly be smaller because it's their body type. A majority of the time I need to eat better foods because I need the energy for my job. I find that's the problem with society, no matter what your weight, someone has to comment on it (end of rant). Keep up the marvellous work, you continue to inspire me with each passing video.

Yess thank you for the reminder. I actually started doing this a few months ago, and it went so well. But then I made the mistake of stepping on the scale because my pants were suddenly baggy, and saw that I lost weight. Then I began obsessing about weight loss again. It is so hard to separate the two when you live in a world also obsessed about weight and body image. I needed the reminder!

Melanie, I don't think you realize just how much you help people. There are mornings where I'll lay in bed and tell myself 'you don't deserve food today' and then I find out you've uploaded a video and it just helps so much. I've never been good at balance and you just normalize eating for me, as well as stopping me from feeling shame because I've just eaten. This morning I had an English Muffin, half an avocado with scrambled eggs and coffee, and when you were talking about making your meals balanced with protein and carbs etc. I just thought 'yes. I did it right today.' You don't get near enough thanks for what you do. xx

I want to say that not all autoimmune diseases are preventable. I agree that you should eat the best way possible that makes you feel good! I feel that every way of eating affects each individual differently for sure. I love your videos and I say this not to bring negativity, just to bring informative info: I have an autoimmune disease - Type 1 Diabetes. This type of diabetes is NOT caused by diet at all. My body attacked the cells that produce insulin, so now I do not produce it, and have to take insulin shots to survive. No amount of eating healthy or exercise could have prevented this, can fix or cure this, or possibly prevent other autoimmune diseases from happening since I am now more likely to get another because of my immune system. I know that you just made a quick remark towards autoimmune diseases and probably did not mean to generalize, but I wanted to just make a note on it, and feel comfortable doing so because you are always open to feedback which I admire. I would hate to see anyone get upset at themselves for having an incurable or non-preventable disease and think that they could have prevented it from happening if they would have just eaten the right things. I hope you understand my point of view

I cannot tell you how much I needed this. With my body type it's generally very difficult for me to have that flat stomach, small legs, tiny arms body type. I'm very active and I eat well (not great, not as healthy as I should- though I want to change that), but I always get in these sort of "phases" to eat healthier solely for the purpose of thinning out. It's wrong, I hate it. My mom has always preached eating healthy because it's good for you, but I often find myself falling out of healthy habits because, like you said, I just ate a slice of pizza so what good is an apple. This was very helpful for me, and I'm so happy you aren't discontinuing this series :)

I realised the slimming world diet was not for me, because I felt so deprived of "treats" as soon as I left, I started to binge eat, probably more than I did before joining slimming world, and then I put the weight all back on. My husband said I should join again but I've explained to him that personally, I think slimming world is shite, and money grabbing, and I need to figure this out for myself and eat healthy for a healthy mind and body, and not a weight goal on a scale. I told him depriving myself 100% like diets say will never work for me, as I like a treat now and then. Your videos help me so much Mel! Thank you and keep it up xx

I love you, your message and your content! I will say that I really hate that diabetes is so often attached to food shaming/body shaming though- I would maybe not make that connection. Diabetics are often just giving a bad roll of the dice, and their food doesn't have anything to do with it. Its just something that society jokes about all the time (and it breaks my heart!). My aunt is diabetic and she is, and always has been, one of the most healthy people i know. She eats perfectly and runs a cross fit gym, and yet, she is diabetic. I think we should just show everyone as much love and respect as we can and focus inwards on our own goals :D I hope this doesn't hurt your feelings :(. Your food looked really tasty today!! I can't wait till you make another FDF!

Love this video Mel... right on target with your food advice! I agree with everything you said. Because I am thin, people often think I eat super "healthy" all the time or that I barely eat at all... such a misconception. I actually eat a lot, like you, only I eat more balanced meals and I very rarely snack between meals. People have even made the claim that I am on a "diet," and nothing grinds my gears more than when people assume I am dieting! I eat just like you and a bowl of ice cream daily. And thank you so much for continuing these lovely food videos! You most certainly have a healthy relationship with food. Big thumbs up ;) Btw, love your hair! Love your videos so much and was loving this video until around the 13:00 minute mark where you made the vegan comment.. I'm vegan, and chose this lifestyle because of my long history with EDs. I feel freer in my food choices now being vegan and have woken up to eating such a variety of fruits and vegetables and getting really creative with cooking meals. I'm a big believer in listening to your body and have recently been eating poorly cause of life stuff - as a result I was really feeling it with fatigue, poor sleep, so on.... But just because I choose to not eat animals products doesn't mean that I can't apply your way of thinking (which is healthy, and more girls need to hear this message) which is: eat healthy and make positive food choices for your overall wellbeing rather than to fit a societal image/lose weight/stay skinny ect. The comment just didn't sit right with me and was a little upsetting because I allow myself treats and try to have a wholistic approach to food - meat and dairy just don't come into it. I don't think that makes me automatically unhealthy though? Or not "apart" of the group your trying to get this message across to. Just my thoughts. Please keep making positive videos like these, everyone could use more reflection on their relationship with food. x

Melanie, I know this is an older video and I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I needed to comment since I’ve recently got into this series. I’ve never had what I believe to be a full blown eating disorder, but due to stressors and change in my life, also panic disorder and emetophobia, I can veer the way of anorexia or orthorexia-both of which leads me to binge later. I love your attitude towards your body and eating, and you’re the only vlogger i can watch when it comes to food that doesn’t make me feel inferior or wrong or unhealthy. Recently I felt myself veering towards really unhealthy attitudes towards food once again after a big move, and these videos, no joke, have set me back on a much better path. Keep doing what you do. I wish I could’ve watched this as a younger woman/teenager.

i was one of those people who thought eating healthy equals with getting skinny/losing weight the healthy way etc, while of course it can be part of healthy weight loss. its so so so much more, the right balance of minerals and vitamins, recognizing signs/symptoms of food allergies and intolerances and adjusting the diet to that, keeping the blood sugar at bay, taking care of one's teeth (♥), skin etc etc -- that is what healthy eating is about. its the overall wellness of the body and mind, not just "sizing down when shopping for clothes"

I am in love with this video!! I feel completely the same. For a while I was eating foods that, while they weren't the most unhealthy, my body didn't digest well. They tasted good but then I'd feel bloated and tired. Why? Well, the food my body functions on best is straight-up vegetables, and I was tired of preparing the veggies and having to eat a ton to get enough calories. But I've recently decided that my digestion and energy and overall wellbeing is more important than "wasting time" and inconvenience.

Im overweight, I know this. I feel it, my lack of energy, motivation and for me a large part of my depression are all signs of it. However I've never though of eating for my health, ridiculous at the age of 27 but the only way i've seen food as either to comfort eat, something to restrict to be skinny or to reward myself with if I was doing well on my diet or had something good happening with life. Preach 👐 also I think I know why you begin not to crave shitty foods after eating healthy for a while! Your gut (intestines) are made up of tiny little threads that absorb nutrients and they will give you cravings. So for example if all you give them is chocolate and sugar your gut will keep craving those types of foods because that's what it's used to. Then when you have veg or fruit it's like a shock to your gut and those threads aren't used to all those vitamins. But if you continue to eat those nutrient dense foods your gut will get used to that type of food instead and will stop asking for sugar. Probably explained in such an unscientific way but there ya go!

I need to get back to eating porridge. I've been really slacking on eating breakfast at all lately and I know that's so bad. OMG That salmon dinner looked amazing. And coconut ice cream is so expensive but it's such a yummy substitute. I've never been someone to diet, because my looks weren't worth my being miserable and deprived all the time. I've grown up on an organic farm which really helped but I do remember when I was little, mum deciding to cut out fatty processed sausages and stuff and never buying me sugary cereal. Always making sure we had lots of vegetables with our main dinner etc. It's all about the balance. Plus, same, I really don't wanna get old and be sick all the time. I want to be comfortably mobile and have energy and be a sassy old lady (if I'm fortunate enough to make it that far in life). lol

Thank you for sharing this. It sounds odd but in this time and society we lack the voice of sanity and balance. Everyone is trying to sell this and that and the only way they can do it is by telling people it is necessary to go ALL THE WAY and be extreme about diet/exercise/lifestyle etc. While it is the complete opposite. In fact, there's no need to push a restrictive organic, fat-free, low-protein, no-sugar diet in order to be healthy. It is so darn simple and so untold! That's why I liked your video so much. Because you told the truth instead of recommending quick fixes to get the long wanted unrealistic body, that's a mere materialistic desire tbh. Thank you!

Ive been sick for 13+ years cause of food allergies/intolerances. So i eat like 85 to 90% healthy, and work out 3 times a week to kick my body into normalcy. I also would like to get skinnier and i am slowly but surly with what im doing now. But my main focus is to get a healthy happy body, the weight loss is only a bonus😁 My sister has drank so much energy drinks in her almost 25 years of age, that she is totally immune for it😱 Thats so frightening to me!!!!

Love this video. I'm trying really hard to get rid of my snacking habits. I feel like I snack a LOT! At night I'll let myself have a square of dark chocolate. I'm in between jobs right now, so I'm cooking a lot, which is good for my health and to save money! I love your channel!

total agree with you Mel if I eat crap I just feel awful but also pick up every bug going. yet if I avoid processed food and eat plenty of fruit and veg I feel super health and good but also don't pick up germs as much.

Hey, Melanie! I'm in secondary school so we're allowed to go to the shop at lunchtime and I always end up buying rice cakes with dark chocolate... with a bag of crisps and some sweets! I know this is okay sometimes but having this day after day, week after week, month after month... it's just not good. So what I was wondering is if you could make a video about different lunch ideas? I'm a vegetarian and always stuck on ideas for what I can easily and quickly make at home then bring to school. I love all your Food Diary Friday videos and you're one of my absolute favourite KZbinrs so who better to ask! I hope you see this comment and decide to go ahead with the video :) S xx

Make a big batch of hearty soup, divide it into portions, freeze them, put one in a Thermos and take it to school. Add a wholegrain sandwich, a piece of fruit and a nut-based cereal bar or some dark chocolate and you’re good to go.

For me food has been a problem for a while, mainly since I started uni and stated boredom eating which kind of turned into binge eating... put on over 4 stone in 3 years and it's disgusting me... joined the gym and trying so so hard to sort myself out diet-wise. Thanks for the pep talk :) xx

I think you are fucking right, I have been restricting a lot of "bad" foods and consuming less than the normal amount my body needs. The result was I was suffering binge eatings like a lot and it is killing me because I feel so bad and so guilty... The most incredible is that when I have suffering one of that episodes my body just wants to take pringles, chocolate and that kind of food. Could you talk in some video about binge eatings?
