I'm a teenager. I have 16 yrs old. I live with my mom, and my ''ID'' ends in 4, which means I can only buy in Wednesday. But I can't, because I have to study. Luckily, we have food in our house for one or other reason. But some people don't. As someone who has lived her entire life in ''socialism'', the only thing I ask for is that, please, please, please, pray for us. Help us in any way you can. Sometimes I don't have tampons or sanitary towels, sometimes I eat once a day and it wasn't even a full meal, just rice and butter. Sometimes, just bread. And I have to wait 4 hours to buy it because I have to do an overlong line. And I have to look for it, because not every bakery has flour to do bread that day. Sometimes, I have to do a 2 days-line (we call it ''cola'' here) to SEE IF I CAN BUY BUTTER AND FLOUR. JUST TO SEE, I'M NOT SURE IF I'M GOING TO BUY. When I get sick or someone gets sick, you just can't go to a pharmacy and buy what you want. You have to look over, and over, and over again in any store you can, hoping to find the medicine you need. Kids with cancer are dying. Babies, just newborns, are dying because there's no food, or medicines, or any help for them. Fuck, some hospitals don't even have incubators. Doctors attend the patients in hallways and lobbys of hospitals because they fill every room to the top. I explained a lot, and I didn't get to explain 3/4 of the problems we're living every day. I'm scared. I'm sad. I'm mortified of going out for school and get killed because some thieves tried to steal my money or my bag. I'm terrified, sometimes, of the dark. Because I don't know if I'm going to get kidnapped when I cross the street, or that bridge, or maybe I could get raped in that dark hallway. I want to stay here, live here, and die here. I love Venezuela. But deep inside, I just want to feel safe and never come back.

Hi. As a Venezuelan thanks for your comment. I think you could help with either one of these or even both 1) talk about it with people, let your community know. Even though it directly won't solve the problem, mentions in the media and pressure from abroad hurts the Venezuelan government and might precipitate some actions towards getting the people access to food/medicines or even a political solution for Venezuela's current situation and/or 2) collaborate with any accredited organization collecting either food or medicines to be sent: they range from providing food to kids at public hospitals (since they are not capable of providing and neither most of their parents), to cancer or hiv drugs (that are also mia). The issue with this topic is the government is not letting these donations get into the country, but pressure (as described in 1 might help). Thanks again for he comment!

I am living in Venezuela right now, and yesterday I was thinking how i can do for better things, because Johanna all you talking about is truth and worse. Currently people are starving, they only eat Mango and platano in occasions, I know people can't eat lunch, I know people suffer so much, and I ask myself, what else has happen?, the protests doesn't work, there is a lot of repression and the military don't care the common people, they only care increase their money with corruption. I am very sad, I think leave my country soon, but I really want a miracle, because there are good people here, but there are many ignorant people too, whose believe in the lies of this government and the only way is be all together. Here there isn't socialism or something like a republic , here there is: anarchy, corruption, impunity, insecurity and a inept government which I never agreed, but here I am paying the consequences of the ingenuity of others. But still, we're not broken, many people try to follow, we have not lost our quirky humor, all we get a joke, laugh at our misfortune as this storm passes. We need the whole truth comes to light, and that is undeniable and nobody supports this government.

Hellooo from Venezuelaaaaaa jaja :P!!! What you said it's totally accurate. Thanks Joana for telling the world about it. That's exactly the way we live in here, plus a couple more aspects that you might have missed (jaja, yeah, there's more shi*). In fact... We venezuelans lost (in the last 6 months), from 10 to 15 kilos. Besides, people is dying from stupid (and and also serious) diseases because medicines cant be found in here (i'm about to lose a family member due to it). Public services are pathetic, the water is contaminated, not suitable for drinking, causing even more diseases. The queues are not of 8 hours anymore, but from 16 to 36 hours. I'm reading some of your comment and can see that some of you emphatize with us and ask how you can help... Thanks for that. Well, i encourage you to please share this video and information, share share share, the video, so people around the world KNOWS what's really happening in here, and these red politicians cannot find political shelter or any kind of support ANYWHERE. Besides, by sharing, you make shure that the world KNOWS what populism is and does not fall in his enchantments. I will not lie, we are still a Subdeveloped country in matters of political and social education. That's one of the reasons that has extended this process of freedom. But we are educating people know, and we are also fighting to wipe out these criminals. Thanks to the political support that the world has shown, justice is winning (for now). I will also ask that you encourage your political leaders (Via email, via social networks), to show a strong position to the venezuelan polititian criminals. Because we, the world, must be actively opposed to these corrupts, to thieves, to populist liars, we have to know that they not only damage a country, but all the world can be and IS being corrupted by their actions. We must fight them in all fronts If you feel like you want to send something, send medicines, wich is important to save lives, but do NOT send food. We are not beggars, we are not loose, we are not ignorant, we are hard working people, just like you are. But we fell into a dictatorship that settled here with the illusion of a democracy. Condemn all traces of populism and socialism, use us as example if you like (not as a derogatory example), but a example, cause that's what we are right now, for the people to SEE WHAT SOCIALISM AND COMUNISM REALLY IS. We have to end this... how long will these criminals cheat people, cheat democracyes, cheat justice... For how long? The answer is... For as long as we let them to do so, by not studying, not knowing, not pronouncing ourselves against them. Please share Joana's video, and help the world to know the truth. From Aragua, Venezuela. Thank you all :) :) :) PD: Sorry if my english is bad, i havent mastered it yet.

Endeudarse? Privatizar?

Meh, people in the U.S. have been saying the same thing with literally every election. "THIS PRESIDENT IS GOING TO RUIN OUR COUNTRY!" *They get elected, nothing really changes* *Next election comes* "IF YOU THINK OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT IS BAD, DO NOT ELECT THIS PERSON! THEY WILL MAKE THINGS WORSE!" *They get elected, nothing really changes* *Lather, rinse, repeat*
@prismatropical8 жыл бұрын
+Ceaser Madrazo here in Puerto Rico it's much more complicated than who to pick in an election. The past governors and people in power have borrowed a lot of money from bonistas (i think they're called bondholders) and now, Puerto Rico is in a debt of billions of dollars, and leaders are expecting the working class and us, Puerto Ricans, to pay for the debt they have collaborated on creating. Big companies, such as Walmart, don't pay taxes and refuse to do it because "it will ruin them" (even though they're a billionare company and paying the taxes they should pay would seem like pennies for them). Leaders are falling short on remedies to pay the debt, and the President of the US along with the Congress have decided to make the Junta de Control Fiscal (roughly translated as the Fiscal Control Board) which is basically a group of assigned powerful, rich gringos that know nothing about Puerto Rico who will take the decisions regarding to Puerto Rico's economical and other issues. Not to mention that most Puerto Ricans don't give a solitary fuck and rather leave to the US or just complain and keep their arms crossed and political leaders act and are seen as clowns and corrupts rather than figures of respect and leadership. So yeah, if we keep fucking ourselves in the ass, I have no doubt that we will end like or worst than Venezuela, even if our political situation is not that similar.
@CeaserMadrazo8 жыл бұрын

My best friend is Venezuelan, and it's incredibly hard that she's fucking scared to go back to her country to visit her family. Imagine going from living in a country where you can walk in the streets with your phone out, to one where you can't go outside because you're probably gonna be raped. From living in a country where you can go to the grocery store and buy how many products you would like, pay and leave in less than 10-15 minutes, to a country where you have to wait a 3-hour line to get to a supermarket where you don't even know what you're gonna get. This is not and it will never be ok. I fucking love Venezuelan people. Venezuela is a beautiful country, and I feel so sad for what they're going through. There was a possibility that my friend has to go back to Venezuela forever and you could see her crying so much because she literally has no future in there. I have hope in these people, and I know they're gonna do something, but rn what we have to do is to let everyone know about the situation.

My grandmother is from Argentina, but she moved to Venezuela with two of her daughters because my grandfather lived there. Then my mother was born in Venezuela. My father was born in Argentina but when he was about 10 or 11 he moved to Venezuela. Both of my parents went to a great university, but then Chavez came to power and my mom moved to Florida for a better opportunity. My dad was already living in Florida. One of her sisters moved with her. The oldest one stayed to help my grandmother (my grandfather had died of a heart attack. I never got to meet him). 5 years later they had me. I was third oldest cousin, and soon would come the youngest cousin. I used to visit Venezuela all the time. Usually at least once a year. I would go to the ranch we partly owned and play with all the animals. I stayed there for half the summer once with my grandma and my cousins (the two who lived in Venezuela and the youngest one who came with me from Florida). Little did I know that would be one of my last trips to Venezuela. In second grade is the last time I remember going to Venezuela. Fast forward about two years, the second oldest cousin came to Florida for college to study being a nurse. He lived with my aunt cause they had a bigger house at the time. About two years after that the oldest cousin came to Florida to study to become a doctor. She lived with us cause we'd moved and we had the extra room. Then my aunt, uncle, and grandma came to visit for Christmas. My grandma stayed, but my aunt and uncle had to go back because they had to work and take care of their dog who happens to be very old. Now one of my mom's friend's father died in Venezuela of natural causes (he was perfectly healthy though). Around that time we found out my grandfather on my dad's side was going to have a surgery done. My dad spent his spring break just to visit him and try and help him, his mother, and his sister through this time. Present time now my dad is still Venezuela cause he only left a few days ago. The operations still hasn't been done. My aunt and uncle are struggling to survive. We still haven't gotten the results to see if my cousin got into the school she wanted to to continue her education, or if she has to go back to Venezuela. We are still in grief over what happened to my mom's friend's dad. But we were lucky. My family in Venezuela was definitely in the middle/upper class in Venezuela. I can't begin to comprehend how bad it must be for those in the lower class, or for those who have very sick people in their families can't afford to get the medication. Venezuela is still in our prayers and will always be.

Venezuela is a great country, with great people and they don't deserve all of that fucking shit. I hope Spain don't follow those steps...
@infanteloco8 жыл бұрын
@josephchami5788 жыл бұрын

Joanna got so passionate about Venezuela like I am with Puerto Rico. Flama, please start a section, like the basics of Latin American news. I'd love to hear perspectives from you guys over there. What about elaborating on Puerto Rico's money and status problem and the furthering results and effects of it? How about Brazil's gaining issues for the Olympics this years because of water and the Zika virus? Oh, and there is always Cuba and what U.S. citizens do to get in if they aren't apart of the 12 listed reasons. If you guys don't do it, I'll find a way to do it myself, honestly. I think it could be good to spread more awareness on at least another part of the world.

Here's the thing. The problem of Venezuela's economy began with Carlos Andrés Pérez. Before him, the law established that anything that was already being produced in Venezuela, couldn't be imported. This was a way to preserve the integrity of the industry. However, he was pressured by many companies to eliminate this law; as they realized that importing things is much cheaper than producing them. Also in 1994, Venezuela had an international debt of 35 billion dollars, and was given 20 years to pay it (which is what every government has been doing since then). Otherwise, all of their oil would be subjected to an "embargo". All of this combined, adding the so-called "Chavist Revolution", has molded the Venezuela of today. It's just a matter of time before the U.S. Military starts a Coup d'Etat, and takes over Venezuela. Which will provide the American Empire free oil forever.

@Guizambaldi7 жыл бұрын

No. Socialism is not the issue. The Issue is people who say they are socialist, only to be loved and get votes and then uses their positions as members of the government to steal and accumulate wealth that would last 10 generations. Denmark has a socialist government and they are great. France, for the most part too. The problem is corruption. Appalling or even no justice at all to incarcerate those crooks. Socialism is, in theory, the best system, but hits a mayor flaw when its put into practice. Those who apply iy are humans, and we as a specie are selfish, greedy and for the most part, don't give a f about anybody else but ourselves.

If the system relies on nothing else ever having a single flaw, then the system is inherently flawed. It took one person to hijack communism in the Soviet Union. One person in China. One in Cambodia. One in Vietnam. One in North Korea. One in Cuba. And it took one person to ruin it in Venezuela. Over a hundred million people were imprisoned, executed, or starved to death because of the actions of a handful of evil individuals in the last century. That's an average of over a million people dead every year since the first revolution. I think Babbler is unequivocally right when they say people need to stay the hell away from collectivism. I have a friend from Venezuela, he's been a refugee in Colombia for over a year now. Another friend who is trying to leave with his grandmother, but the government won't let them. I hope the Venezolanos are able to get rid of Maduro, the socialist regime, and rebuild their republic, but I'm worried that won't happen until thousands more have died in the name of socialism.
