I wish the best for you and your fiance on your move to the states one day. Our previous president's blanket ban on Iranians sure upended many people's lives. I hope everyone is aware of the injustices she has and will continue to face just because she is from inconvenient country or from a certain religion. But let's be real, homeboy placed a ban on Muslims but had to revise the legislation several times so it wouldn't be struck down by the courts. So here we are, Iranians are banned for this reason.

The US has the same thing. If you have a H1B work visa and it expires, you have 10 days to leave the US. However, there is a chance to get an extension for a total of 60 days till you have to leave. Every country has these laws were you have to leave after a work visa is over, it might be more or less days.

I'm glad that it's hard to immigrate to Thailand. That's what keeps it homogenous. That's why I want to move there even though I'll be an extreme minority. It's too easy to legally or illegally immigrate to Western countries and it's destroying the Western culture.

I think Dubai is an ok place for a couple years if you're able to leverage something you're working in an save money as its tax free. Its also generally a very safe place and very easy to get around and get things done generally. I lived there for 18 months 6 yrars ago and the air quality is absolutely horrible. The UAE regularly appears in top 10 lists for poorest air quality globally so mentioning air quality of Bangkok as a reason to move to Dubai doesn't make a lot of sense to me to be honest. Other than that here's really no comparison with Thailand. I mean its got absolutely no soul, no real culture to speak of, horrible weather half the year ( or all of the year if you appreciate rain / natural lushness) It feals artificial because it is. I mean just look at Dubai and what's around it - or not around it more accurately - as you fly in. That's if you can see it through the dusty smog. Don't know why Elon Musk wants to set up shop on Mars he could just move to Dubai

I lived in Thailand for 2 year from 2004-2006. I am from the SF Bay Area too where I currently reside. I was an English and Math teacher and lived in Songkhla, Suratthani, and Chiang Rai. I really enjoyed being immersed in the culture - it really is a charming and pleasant culture. Thais are very kind people. The reason I left was because it was limited what I can do there at the time. These days there are many more options including being a Digital Nomad which intrigues me. One of the challenges I experienced there was staying productive. It's very easy to get off track and socialize like the nightlife, etc. If I had to live there again I'd live somewhere up North where I would be more immersed in the local culture and away from foreign areas ( but not too far so I can get a dose of it when needed). Now I'm reconsidering moving back, but will probably go to Vietnam instead.

I literally ride out of my garage and 20 minutes later I'm on PCH riding my bike and I can do it like 280 days a year and its dry and warm. I can drive 15 minutes and mountain bike with incredible views. Thats gonna be tough in thailand. lol

All sounds reasons. 1. Thai food and SEA countries in general are full of seed oils, sugar, carbs. Note that you can order grass fed beef from NZ and Australia, same price as western countries from some shop in bangkok, just look at google map. Super great quality. 2. Pollution could be a problem for some. 3. Timezone, if you have clients or trade during US time, that's hell waking up in the middle of the night. Actually, the food thing is a little bit interesting since I try to eat way more proteins similar to Chuando Tan. I the PHs I regularly bought rotisserie chicken, Big Macs, fruits and salads to get a healthy diet with a much higher content of lean proteins. I also found boiled eggs in 7Eleven there and I buy raw and fresh eggs at home and just micro them 30 sec to get them freshly made when I add them to my meals to up the lean protein content. ..., like doing similar stuff there, perhaps from the supermarket's Hot foods section/Grab-and-go section, Ready-to-eat section, Gourmet foods section?

Doesn't make sense to leave thailand if he wants to travel. Its like saying I'm moving to thailand from southern california because it sucks here. He's leaving because he has to. I'm planning on moving to thailand beause its cheap...lol Thats first and formost. If I could move an hour away and get the same value, I'd do that. When we move to thailand, the plan is to do what he says he wants to do. Cost of living in Dubai is almost 2 times what the cost of living is in BKK. Even more than what it is for us in Chiangmai. There's no arguing with this guy on why he's leaving, he's doing it because he has to, all the other stuff he said is useless except for him to rationalize. Good luck.
