Form my understanding it remineralizes the small decay you get throughout the day like fluoride. It is a sugar alcohol and the bacteria in your mouth that cause decay/cavities try to eat it and burst/die or something I think. It specifically more than sorbitol and other sugar alcohols is particular effective.

It's more toxic to dogs than chocolate. Unfortunately, they put it in a lot of things now that you'd never expect it in. We had no idea the've started putting it in Lawry's marinades & other sauces. I've made my service dogs food for 14 years & she LOVES grilled jerk chicken. Thank God our vet knows the signs of Xylitol toxicity in dogs & thank God we live in a small town & they are right down the street. I called them the moment she started having a seizure at her food bowl. Knowing my disability prevents me being able to lift her to put her in the car our vet & a tech raced to our house & rushed her to the office. By the time I got there 10 minutes later her blood sugar had plummeted & she was vomitting bile because her liver was shutting down. She pulled through but she has permanent damage to her liver & at 14 years old they were afraid she wasn't going to pull through.

Years ago when I read it I thought the article said that chocolate was toxic for dogs because of xylitol, but now I see you’re saying that it’s MORE toxic to dogs than chocolate; I get it now!
