I've almost completely reversed heavy gum recession in only 2 months. My teeth are whiter than ever and getting even whiter! Today I came across your videos from 13 years ago and it's amazing that I just recently came across all this. You've saved me from having to pay a dentist to get cadaver to graph to my gums. Thousands of dollars saved. You honor the world by helping them protect their teeth so well.

I enjoy reading comments like this! Society has had al the basic tools we need, to avoid dental misery. Preventative dental education has been lacking, we’ve had no concept of how to use these tools. Also: dentists i have known do NOT keep revising “best practice” techniques- they keep revising what new fresh bs cosmetic procedures we will desire

Dr. Ellie, you are a blessing to humanity. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. I've been doing your complete mouthcare system for 2 months now and have seen marked improvements in my gums and teeth. My mother began 3 weeks ago and always struggled with heavy tarter build-up between her 6mo hygiene cleanings. Just yesterday, she got a bit of stringy celery caught in her teeth and couldn't remove it by rinsing alone. She gently used some floss to remove the stuck food, and out of curiosity, she continued to floss the rest of her mouth. Much to her amazement, there was zero anything on the floss when she finished! My mom is 71 years old and has flossed regularly until she began your system. She always had sticky, smelly, plaque on her floss before she started your system. Just wanted to share her testimony with others. We love you!!

In my 40's, never had a cavity in my life. I only brushed once per day (always rinsed toothpaste with water after brushing), NEVER flossed, and used listerine before any social occasions or before bed (even as a kid we had good old listerine by our bathroom sink). I visited the dentist once every 5 years (who told me my teeth were crazy white and I must be doing something right). Last year I wanted to to take my mouth care to the next level and started following typical dental recommendations. I started brushing 2-3 times a day and just spitting out toothpaste not rinsing as I was told flouride should stay on for 30 mins. I flossed every day at bed time. I even bought a water flosser. Went back to the dentist and guess what... LOTS of plaque and tartar buildup that I never had before (no cavities thank god). So I found Dr Ellie's routine that seemed to be jive with what I used to do (ie, no flossing, mouthwashes, fewer dental cleanings/visits). I've been doing this for a month and my mouth is SO clean again... and no plaque despite not flossing. I highly recommend!

Omg after I started water flossing plus more vigorous regular flossing after getting lectured by hygienist is when cavities started getting worse and worse. What started it all I think was switching to a fluoride-free natural toothpaste after my ex insisted fluoride was dangerous. But still it was only a few new cavities at first after that, but then my hygienist treating me like I had a dirty mouth had me flossing multiple times a day instead of once and really scraping the sides of teeth with the floss until my gums hurt. She also had me using a sulca brush for inbetween teeth too and the water flosser! I was spending one hour cleaning my teeth after each of my two meals a day yet after one visit she was like you have 5 cavities. I was like what the heck?!

This is my theory: you brush with toothpaste to scrub gunk away, rite? Why would you let that gunk SIT IN YOUR MOUTH for any amount of time afterward? It doesn’t take itself away… Like, a person experiences nausea… their mouth fills with an unpleasant flood of saliva pre-vom… they want to spit it out. Nature has systems for things! I quit using Listerine in my early 20s because I felt it caused my initial recession because it burned my mouth. I also read studies that showed the more alcohol you have in mouthwashes the higher incident you have in contracting mouth cancers. So I quit using mouthwashes when I was in my mid 20s, I just brush my teeth and I do a manually because I feel that electric toothbrushes. Miss a lot of areas and also perhaps where areas faster below the enamel line. I used to always rinse my mouth out with water, but since I started using the pearly white toothpaste from Thailand that has hydroxyappetite in it I do not rinse but let the toothpaste remineralize and block the tubules decaying matter cannot cause surface cavities. How's it going now? I think the PUR brand of Xylitol is just fine. You could also just buy pure granulated Xylitol from any grocery store or health food store. It will be in the baking section near the sugar. Personally, I prefer that when I'm home, and I carry the PUR mints in my bag for when I'm out.
@adamd9166
@adamd9166 Жыл бұрын
I found the Pur brand and am considering using a pinch of xylitol in place of the mints after a meal. A pinch and then just swish it around my mouth with saliva for 30 seconds to a minute (I believe she says the same about chewing the mints). I believe it should have the same effect.
@Maggie-zr2ow
@Maggie-zr2ow Жыл бұрын
@@adamd9166 I had an online chat with Dr Ellie and she said the xylitol crystals work just as good as the mints as long as you use them without water. Some people want to mix them with water to swish around in the mouth. I have intolerances to the other ingredients in the mints so I get the xylitol crystals (a pure birch xylitol brand that doesn’t use any flow agents) and I keep lidded containers with spoons in the kitchen and the bathroom closet next to my toothbrush. I use more than just a pinch because I figure I don’t want the effort over time to show that I didn’t use enough. I’d rather use too much than too little. Recently I’ve been starting with a pinch that I swallow because studies show xylitol strengthens bones and helps prevent osteoporosis. Men can benefit as well because they too get osteoporosis. Then after the pinch, I do my big spoonful, melt and swish for 1-2 minutes, then spit out. Be careful that your xylitol isn’t accessible by your pets as it’s toxic to them. Cheers.
@Maggie-zr2ow

@kahearne5361 You might consider looking into bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) if you haven’t already. 60 isn’t too old to do it, and that frozen shoulder can be a symptom of low hormones. Broken bones can also be a symptom of low hormones. The BHRT is protective against osteoporosis and protects brain health. Look up videos on what is being discovered. And the xylitol in Dr Ellie’s program also helps with protecting bone health. You may need to consume xylitol crystals in addition to the chewing gum and mints. Ask your doctor about it. Also, have you heard about low dose naltrexone for the MS? Wish you well.

It [alcohol-based mouthwash] may be safe to use for short periods, but based on our findings and other types of evidence, I would not recommend long-term use,” Kenyon told Medical News Today. However, at least one expert says it's important to remember that using mouthwash does not directly lead to cancer. Out of 497 potentially eligible papers, 8 studies were included in the qualitative analysis which include a total of 43,499 subjects: two meta-analyses, a clinical trial, three case-control studies and two cohort studies. One study (n = 3,926) found a relationship between alcohol mouthwash and oral cancer, two studies (n = 25,033) found this relationship when a high frequency of mouthwash was present, three studies (n = 14,482) failed to find this relationship and 2 studies (n = 58) found a temporary increase of acetaldehyde levels in saliva after alcohol mouthwash. It cannot be guaranteed that the use of mouthwash represents an independent risk factor for the development of head and neck cancer. However, the risk does increase when it occurs in association with other carcinogenic risk factors.

Dr. Ellie, On page 132 of your book Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye you write, “Possibly the biggest problem with sorbitol is that plaque bacteria on teeth learn to use it as an energy source in order to grow and thicken.” Then you go on to recommend two mouth rinses whose first ingredient after water is sorbitol, but you do not go on to explain this apparent contradiction. How is it that these sorbitol-based mouth rinses do not feed harmful bacteria? Especially since you instruct us to not rinse with water afterwards, this sorbitol is remaining in our mouth. How do you justify this and why should we not seek out a different rinse that is sorbitol-free? I would very much appreciate your answer to this question. Thank you Dr. Ellie

In my self education on dental health i have read that fluoride kills dental bacteria, when at therapeutic level (more than in water). I’m not suggesting this is an answer however it would somewhat mitigate the effects you speak of. It’s not just sorbitol sitting in your mouth. The active ingredient AND sorbitol are in there.

I remember she says in one of her videos that the little bit of sorbitol in the mouthwash is not a huge deal. Her comment on sorbitol feeding harmful bacteria was in reference to chewing gums that contain sorbitol which people chew all day long. But if you are worried about sorbitol, you could always finish off with a few Xylitol crystals in your mouth at the end of your cleaning routine.
@dr.elliephillips

It is ingesting sorbitol that is the problem. When I was publishing Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye in 2010 - Trident had just launched a chewing gum made with sorbitol and a flake of xylitol - something that would definitely have given you acid reflux - YET the label said "NOW with XYLITOL". I was beside myself that they were allowed to do this. In the military they warned soldiers at that time to "LOOK for XYLITOL first" - so they would have xylitol as the first (hopefully 100% product) for chewing gum. Here is a link to the military warning: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15116453/ In the rinses you do not swallow this sorbitol at all - so it is a mute point.

Listerine is an essential oil mouth rinse ( check the active ingredients are Menthol, Eucalyptus and Thymol) in a very dilute concentration. But these essential oils are not only good for growing gum tissues - but they "pop" the shell of hard round plaque bacteria called "streptococci". All "cocci" are hard round bacteria with a very tough shell. The crazy thing is that if these immature bacteria are not stopped - they grow into a different elongated bacteria complex in 12-15 hours. Then xylitol can help to remove the elongated ones by making them slippery - but better if the elongated ones don't get the chance to stick to our teeth. Listerine does not even target the mature plaque bacteria - it is pretty specific to the hard shell kind - so it is targeted and very useful. if you read the Listerine label you will see it targets the bacteria that CAUSE plaque......( It does NOT say it targets plaque.....the word CAUSE is critical).

@@artsiecrafty4164 what i have learned from Ellie’s videos is that A: the listerine+alcohol ingredient slightly acidifies the environment in your mouth, flouride is shown to work better in a slightly acidic environment B: if you want to not floss, the listerine component is vital for killing 99% of bacteria in the places brushing can’t get. I am a person who like to challenge every claim i am presented with, especially if i don’t believe it. My research online has presented me with information that •fluoride works best in slightly acid environment (multiple sources, you might find ít yourself online) •Listerine especially helps people who want to not floss (for whatever reason) but who feel that stuff is still gets stuck in between their teeth •following 30s MAX Listerine exposure, the act mouth rinse follows directly, countering the alcohol. •Listerine is not meant to be rinsed until burning feeling. It is counterproductive in that manner. Spit it before it starts burning. Even if that’s 4 seconds. It is killing bacteria regardless of if you feel anything. Over time you might find that as your dental health becomes more resilient, you are able to use listerine for longer time, sans burn. RESILIENCE. but the “no pain no gain” mentality is false. Dont begin by hurting yourself, spit ít before. Pain is a huge dis-incentive to keeping good oral routine *just my thoughts

I know ACT zero alcohol mint (green) works best for adults. I recommend kids to experiment if they want to - unless they have cavities (in which case only bubblegum and mint are known (by me) to work). The ADA seal is a joke - so don't go by that for any kind of endorsement. If you hate mint - I'd recommend use the cinnamon or bubblegum flavors. I cannot keep up with every new variety - and if you want the closest to a guarantee that this system will work - I suggest you use the product that I know over 40+ years have worked. Others may look the same - but often it is hidden inactive variations that affect the outcome. For a few cents more I suggest the genuine product - at least until you have your oral health where you want it - then you could do some experimental comparisons. My website at DrEllie.com provides links to products on Amazon if you want to review the products I recommend - and the only ones I "can" recommend with complete confidence. www.amazon.com/shop/dr.elliephillips

How to get xylitol most cost-effectively?? For 10 grams actual xylitol in product units: ACT mints ($2.78 - 14.3 mints = 10 g) ZELLIES mints ($1.07 - 20 tabs = 10 g) ZELLIES gum ($2.16 - 18 pieces = 10g) NATURBELL granules ($.12 - 2.5 tsp = 10g) So it costs a LOT more for mints but one has to wonder if the granules are worth it (are they effective AT ALL?) since they go right down the throat almost immediately whereas the ACT mints stay in the mouth for a long time, Zellies mints much less so, the gum something in between. I am used to paying $1/day for most supplements but the ACT mints, in particular, are more like $3/day ... which is too much.

Dr Ellie, today I was buying four bottles of Listerine Cool Mint as they are on 40% discount in the supermarket. However, my girlfriend, who works in an orthodontist office, told me that I am in to stain my teeth. That got me worried. I remember in one of your videos, you said that the Original is even better to keep the teeth strong and white. I hope these three rinses that I am investing in - Closys, Listerine Cool Mint and ACT - won't stain my teeth. I understand some mouth rinses such as Chlorohexidine ones will.

@@dr.elliephillips hi Dr. Thank you for such a fast response. I did check out the site beforehand and in the order I need to use, the last product ACT also has sorbitol. After using ACT should I wash my mouth with water to get rid of sorbitol?
@dr.elliephillips
@dr.elliephillips Жыл бұрын
@@7SlicesOfPizza No - do not wash your mouth out with water or you will loose almost all of the benefits of this system. You actually want to avoid eating and drinking anything for at least 1 -2 hours after using the system. The only exception is to have some xylitol/a Zellies mint afterward. The problem with sorbitol is only when it is consumed frequently - and in more quantity. It's issue is in the esophagus when you swallow it - it appears to affect the esophageal bacteria negatively. A tiny bit in a liquid rinse is not of any importance. The only reason I ever mentioned sorbitol in my books was to alert people 20 years ago - that sorbitol is not the same as xylitol. It was in the early 2000s when Trident came out with a chewing gum made from mostly sorbitol - but the last ingredient in their list was a flake of xylitol (xylitol is expensive and sorbitol is cheap). The problem I was haing was that the wrapper of this gum stated "NOW WITH XYLITOL" on the outside front of the gum. It was frustrating because there was so little xylitol it was ineffective at this amount, and the amount of sorbitol was giving people gastric upsets... Trident shipped packages of this awful gum to every dental office in the country - to introduce them to "xylitol". Of course the gum did not work because there was not enough xylitol. Many people experienced gastric upset from the sorbitol. This Trident gum was a terrible introduction to xylitol and horrible timing - because there was no way to communicate with the public through social media. The military had started adding 100% xylitol gum to their MREs and they understood the confusion. They created a program "Look For Xylitol First" - teaching military personnel to check the first ingredient in an ingredient list: If you consume 3 or more pieces of Trident sorbitol gum - it appears to promote acid reflux.... and this is why I have the warnings not to consume sorbitol. Link to the military program in the 2000s: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15116453/

As a DDS I helped patients in my office and was astounded how this system could cure periodontal disease and reverse cavities. I have promoted this for decades - and anyone that knows me - knows that as a DDS I would have had a more lucrative career artificially whitening teeth, doing crowns and placing implants. I chose to help motivated patients enjoy ultimate oral health - using over-the -counter products from Walmart. If anything I am a "salesperson" for saliva - the spit in your own mouth. Dr. Ellie, i’ve been following your program for about four weeks now. My teeth feel great, and I noticed a visible reduction in plaque. Last week I had a dental appointment and was looking forward to it… curious to see if my hygienist noticed a difference. She did! She commented a number of times that my gums looked so healthy, and I had very minimal plaque to scrape off. It wasn’t until after she expressed all that that I told her I was doing some thing different! So, thank you so much! I always dreaded going to the dentist, and now I have optimism about the health of my teeth. The only thing is, I’ve noticed, particularly in my front teeth, increased sensitivity to temperature and the air blown on my teeth during the exam. I used to use Sensodyne for my sensitive teeth. But now that I’m using your program, I am using the Crest and the sensitivity is happening. Can you advise what I should do about this sensitivity? Thanks!

I haven't received the ACT mouthwash , so after the diluted Listerine, I rinse my mouth with plain water and then finish with a bit of granulated Xylitol to alkalize my mouth. I also remember her saying not to force anything painful to be in the mouth. I think she also said that we might need to allow a healthy biofilm to grow inside our mouth before Listerine stops causing a burning sensation. The biofilm is all over, including on our tongue.

Had 2 questions I want to ask you if I may: 1. Since you recommend not rinsing with water after using the mouth washes, isnt it highly likely that some amount of the chemicals in the mouth washes would be inadvertently ingested on a regular basis. Is that safe? 2. Is this method safe for children to use? Thanks in advance.

When you learn my story - you will discover that this has been my recommendation to patients for over 40++ years. I have used it myself and also my 5 kids and their extended families - and now the teenage grandchildren. Not a cavity and many of us have not had a cleaning in decades. My oral health was "measured" in 2015 by many different dentists - and I was found to not only have perfect oral health, clean carotid arteries and low body inflammation ( I was 65 at the time) but I also measured with a wide diversity of healthy bacteria. My kids took many of these tests too - to show that I had passed these healthy bacteria to my family over the years. My book Mouth Care Comes Clean may explain how all of this works and why I have absolutely no concern about the products I recommend. The other option is to take the Oral Health Video Bootcamp at DrElie.com. I hope this helps to give you confidence in this system.
