Rebalancing the FE8 promotions: Akira edition, final

Okay now that I have recovered the will to live enough to look at this thing again, some things that were missed during the great shuffle: 1. In the big Ewan tables, it says that Druid and Summoner have 0 Mag gain cumulatively from Shaman and Tier 2 promotion. This isn't true - I forgot about the +2 for going into Shaman. As a result, all Druid and Summoner cumulative tables should say that Ewan gains 2 more Mag than they do 2. In Skills for Amelia's big table, I forgot about Great Shield already being a skill present on General. In my defense, can you blame me? 3. I forgot about Super Trainees, Lizard thought we weren't talking about Super Trainees, so we didn't mention Super Trainees. Final rating of Super Trainees: meme/10, interpret that how you will

I think that Wyvern Knight kinda suffers from over-balancing again. I'm not sure a 1 point of speed when using light weapons and Pierce is a strong enough reason to choose Wyvern Knight outside of certain LTC contexts.

That's very possible, yeah. People do really like the Pierce/Luna effect though, so it's partly a fun thing so that Wyvern Lord isn't completely awful for anyone who would want to use it instead

not having arms is what makes it a wyvern rather than a dragon. in the theory the wyvern knight and lord are inaccurate class names, as they're actually riding dragons.

Mostly discussed in the other video - but I think y’all are sleeping on how broken Provoke would be on General. All of the sudden it’s very easy to do training projects - low level units can sit next to the general without fear (with planning) and, since a general won’t double, he can chip them into great position for the training unit to get the kill. I’m also envisioning some Warp strats where you can’t quite reach the objective with a warp of your boss killer, but he can easily clear the path or let them wait near the objective while all enemies are diverted away. It would be hype af!!! I’d love to see the strats that come from that haha

To be completely fair, L'Arachel at 20/6-ish Valkyrie can basically solo Chapter 18. Her Avo is high enough that stone isn't a realistic risk, and her Res is near-capped by that point, plus WTA so the Gorgons wet noodle whenever they actually (Rarely) do hit.

So, I always specifically liked the Trainees because of the flexibility of upgrade paths and the reward for getting over the lvl0 training. This discussion just makes me want a hack with a full squad of 4-5 trainees(mixing in like a sword trainee, and a staff trainee).

Funnily enough, there is a hack of FE8 called Trainee Emblem where everyone is a trainee (prepromotes are tier 1 classes) and there are various additional trainee classes available. Loved the video. One minor thing: if we use sprites in the future would it be possible to get the sprite png and stretching it in a way to minimize the blurring? It’s a little less appealing to looked at the blurry stretched sprites when gba is normally so crisp

Very understandable for sure As context for that, this presentation already took. A ton of effort, and the only resource we were able to easily find without having to manually export and process all the sprites ourselves was a site with really low quality images. Therefore we decided to go with that instead of doing even more work on it Still though, that's not something that a viewer would know, so it makes sense for sure! Glad to hear that you loved it

Between both parts, Sniper and General definitely benefit a lot which is direly needed. Provoke and Quick Draw are much better abilities as found in Tellius yeah. I also like the rally strength for warriors, counter would've been as broken as it was in Awakening or as minor as it was in Tellius on Titania.

12:46 I would take the Wyvern Lord's 2 strength and defense and bump them up to 5. The Wyvern Lord is strong and tanky while the Wyvern Knight is fast.

I forgot about super trainee since I've never used them before, and I also don't have a save that has both Eirika and Ephraim modes beaten since now I typically alter FE8 in some form each time I play it Then Lizard assumed that leaving them out was intentional, so he didn't comment on it For real though, the super trainees are meme/10, which you can interpret how you will lol

Knoll isn't suffering from a promo problem; He's suffering from a bad unit problem. There's no point in editing the classes because they're fine on Ewan. just directly edit him because he's a dog shit unit.

Ewan's bases are terrible and his growths aren't noteworthy either, Knoll can at least promote instantly into summoner and do something while Ewan requires heavy babying to even get to a level 10 shaman.

Yeah as Shellpop said, it's not hard to funnel the earlygame non-Seth kills into one of her, Artur and Franz, and well... she has flight on her side, so she's a darn good investment pick of the three. Plus even if you don't use her for combat, there's a lot she can get credit for by helping to Rescue/Drop Seth places he wouldn't be able to reach naturally due to his sole imperfection being not having wings

Vaness'a strength growth is only 10% less than Tana and she joins 7 chapters before Tana, with the chapter 8 Elysian Whip she can promote and get Wyvern Knight's +2 strength +2 Speed and +4 con before Tana and Cormag even join.
