That was awesome how you re-did the base. Great stuff.

Thank you. I think the previous owner's paint job looks really nice with the flagstone base.

Small suggestion; when I rebase I drill the hole in the foot first, then insert the paperclip, then cut the paperclip. This basically uses the hole in the foot to keep the part you're cutting off the paperclip from flying away when you snip it.

I find it quicker and more convenient to do it the way I did in this video, but everyone will find the way that works best for them.

Huh..! Funny you would put that video up at the same time I was rebasing some old Mage Knight figures for D&D purposes...

Clever idea to add white paint to see where to drill
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
If I eyeball where to drill, I always end up with the miniature standing too far to one side of the base.

Resin bases are interesting. I have a bag of aftermarket 40mm that have the round whatever on the bottom just like old Citadel ones but can't for the life of me remember where I got them from.

I like the round things underneath the big bases - those are my preference, really. I couldn't find any aftermarket ones that had them, which is why I went for the solid bases instead. I'm a bit dubious about the 40mm bases that have a completely empty void underneath. I feel like there's more risk of them twisting from the weight of the miniature, and the pinning wouldn't be as strong.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring You just bend the pin over under the base and add metal epoxy. I've used hollow ones like that for historical metal chariots before. Bases don't really twist that much. Why didn't you use a round base though, even if the rules say square ( and only because GW only make square 40mm then)?

I really liked the solidness of the resin bases. It's a little more work for adding magnets, but they feel suitably sturdy. I decided to stick with square for all the large monsters for a few reasons. Firstly to try to maintain something of the original feel of the game. Secondly, just to make it clear which monsters have the large trait (just in case I end up with some models that are on slightly larger bases for some reason, or I have miniatures that are oversized but don't have that trait and still go on the smaller round bases), and also I feel the square bases covering exactly four squares makes it easier at a glance to see which spaces are in the miniature's death zone.

You need to look up a company called Hobby Heaven for buying bases in future :)
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

Thanks for the suggestion. I've just checked them out. Unfortunately, their 25mm bases are more expensive than the ones I normally get, and their 40mm bases don't have anything under the bases to support pegs so it would be a weaker join. I'll keep them in mind though. It's always good to know different places to shop around to get the best deals.

I have used hobby heaven. I like them bought a well painted knight crusader and got it shipped here to Australia for less than buying it new here with an online discount.

Thanks. I need to do this to a couple of the larger Blood Bowl star players for 3rd edition (Morg n Thorg and Headsplitter). Although for them I will rebase onto smaller round bases. I find these 40mm square bases to look massive and in Blood Bowl there’s no mention these larger players take up four squares, so you’re somehow meant to squeeze them into one square on the board 🤣

The 40mm base on this miniature looks oversized a bit, but that's because it's an old miniature and was originally provided with a tab and a smaller slottabase. On other large miniatures, particularly newer ones, the 40mm is more appropriate. Having said that, it's been an age since I played Blood Bowl but I'm pretty sure you are absolutely right and every miniature is indeed supposed to fit inside a single square. Good luck with it.

I have uploaded 70 minutes of videos this week alone, sometimes you get a short one. But even so, there was nothing left to say. I'd showed the whole rebasing process.
