Speaking of PH testing, could you do a vid on how you PH test your soaps? Also, a shampoo bar edition with conditioner bar would be super awesome!!!!

Shannon Mortimer I’m so glad! I have been thinking about the shampoo thing - think I will do a full week on hair products. There is just a ton of info out there, and opinions, and stuff. And I guess I can throw my chemistry opinion out there and try to duck. 😂

Hello, what was the white creamy substance you added to the rebatch? If you don’t mind me asking? My hair is like your daughter’s, I wanted to give it a try🙂

I would really like to hear your thoughts on soap vs sindet shampoo bars🙏 Also I would like to hear about the way it affects the outer layer of the hair that from my understanding tends to open when it's exposed to a base but I'm not sure I'm kinda confused

Funny thing i have thin hair, my hair loves shampoo soap also. Being using them for yrs.

I've used real soap on my hair; all I can say is I looked even more like the wild woman from the mountains than usual. Acidic rinse e.g. vinegar solution helped a tad, but if you already have frizzy out of control hair, I would say no. For fine skimpy hair, maybe? Don't think it will help shine on any type of hair. But happy to find ways around that, if anyone has any ideas.

My hair is crazily thick and loves a soap, as does my wild child curly girl’s hair. Lots of factors go into choosing the right haircare, for sure!

What is a sindet bar? Yes please i would love to hear your opinions on shampoo bars. 😊
@MrsSoapAndClay3 жыл бұрын
Syndet bars are like the ones you see at Lush with the noodles - they’re made with a range of very gentle and bubbly surfactants and have a lower ph than a shampoo soap bar. It’s a hotly debated subject in the soap world - syndet vs shampoo bars. 😂

@@MrsSoapAndClay what are your feelings on a 100% coconut shampoo bar, superfatted at 8%. I made a test batch i found several well known websites that were raving about them. In my honest opinion after testing my hair was like a scarecrows 😂🤣. I am looking for a good hemp soap bar without the noodles, any suggestions. I love hemp for its balancing qualities. Signed scarecrow hair. 🤣🤗
@MrsSoapAndClay3 жыл бұрын
So coconut oil is very drying, but you know that often talked about 100% coconut oil with a 20% superfat? I loved that on my hair. Hemp is a great addition to shampoo bars, for sure!
@prodigygirl13 жыл бұрын
@@MrsSoapAndClay i shall try superfatting with the hemp. Would you recommend a apple cider vinegar rinse? Hey, and thank you. I shall definitely superfat at 20% for a coconut bar. Yes i know how drying coconut us. The people that put these recipes up must have hair like wire wool if they use thuer own products. Personally i dont put anything out without testing it on myself. I rebatched and made coconut salt scrubbies. 😊

I just don't understand the appeal of syndet hair bars, because why would I bother? The stuff at the store is so much easier to use and is essentially the same thing, detergent, so I just don't ever see myself bothering to make it myself. I know a lot of soap makers may not see it my way, but that's how I see it. I have however made soap bars for hair and they work great.
@MrsSoapAndClay Жыл бұрын
Not entirely true re: same thing, but I get where you’re coming from. I think the biggest appeal is the reduction of plastics on the planet.
@siobhanclaire256 Жыл бұрын
@@MrsSoapAndClay maybe not wholly the same thing, but detergent vs soap is what I meant. I've thought about the plastic too, but then again, my lye comes in plastic, my oils come in plastic, even the lids on my fragrance oils are plastic, so I'm not sure how we REALLY deal with the plastic issue, I think the onus is really on the manufacturers we have to deal with.

when rebatching soap can I add lye to the soap batch that is soft because I miscalculated the lye and added too little, resulting in a soft bar of soap that is not usable.
@MrsSoapAndClay6 ай бұрын
Hi! You can add a lye solution to your melted soaps, yes. It looks like it will seize but mix it in and let it heat through again and it will loosen up. Add more water if you need to. Have fun!

My god woman, if you are an example of a modern soap maker, I’m an old one. You have a seriously good upper toned body .... but I’m pushing 60 and way too fond of chocolate! Your daughter is delightful, looks like she is going to be a challenge. Have fun. By the way, I am terribly allergic to Tea Tree, and quite a few people are. Ironic since I live in NZ. It is WONDERFUL for getting rid of head lice. I used to wear gloves & a mask to treat my children with a dilute solution. Still used to get nauseous & dizzy. Great videos.
@MrsSoapAndClay4 жыл бұрын
Ha! Between soap and kids and dogs that weigh more than me, my daily life is a full body workout. 😂 Tea tree is super versatile and awesome, unless you’re allergic. Back when the kids were attending school, their heads got spritzed with an EO blend to keep the beasties away as I am irrationally afraid of head lice. I always say that I will shave Kidlet #1’s curls off if she comes home with them...and I’m only mostly joking about that. 😜
