Her injuries and coaching was an immediate disadvantage, but she was too serious thinking this is how you win medals, i do think you can be too focused, its great to set expectations for yourself, but at some point you are just setting yourself to fail with the amount of pressure she had, i would see interviews and that terminator look and just wish she can loosen up and enjoy it, nevertheless valeri failed her and always pushed her to do skills even before she became a senior elite she was never able to do the skills consistently, *cough* double arabian on beam *cough*. Same thing with katelyn ohashi, Her kneecap dislocation was no surprise, makes you wonder how she got injured so many times, bad coaching. Im thankful simone biles wasnt coached by valeri liukin, and i think rebecca would have been much more successful had she worked with a coach who focused more on pacing and safety rather than cramming difficulty and hoping he wont get sued.
@erinm9445 Жыл бұрын
Most of Veleri's gymnasts were that serious. So it's the coach (and maybe the family) not the gymnast, they are just girls. The clearest example is Katelyn Ohashi. She was so serious and always looked so unhappy under Liukin, then she became a beam of pure sunshine in NCAA.

USA Gymnastics is KNOWN for purposely destroying the lives of teenage girls. Shawn Johnson nearly died and was forced to retire. Ohashi started UCLA as a broken woman, both mentally and physically. Rebecca was forced to train injured, leaving her broken and forced to end her career. Simone Biles not talks about struggling with mental health issues. USA Gymnastics has spent decades promoting eating disorders, physical injury, the sexual abuse by Nassar. USA Gymnastics uses girls for profit at the elite level, and has no regard for their overall health.

You are ignorant. When these athletes are putting such strain on growing bones and muscles, and coaches don't recognize this bc they have delusions of their own grandeur, the matrix of long bones and joints will suffer continual and often permanent issues. Not to mention the constant trauma to growth plates. Regardless of an athlete's heart and determination a coach and team physician need to be the common sense professionals that nurture growth and talent not take advantage of it.

I just looked her history up. This injury, a dislocated knee cap, didn't by itself end her career. But it certainly didn't help. She sat out the rest of the year (2011) and when trying out fir the Olympics, in the summer of 2012, failed to make either the team or as an alternate. She fell three times off the uneven bars. It was said that her failure to make the team, her age (19) and previous injuries would probably end her career. From 2008 to 2012, she broke her foot, dislocated her kneecap and had several foot and ankle injuries which barely escaped being very serious. She had a knick-name of being the "most unluckiest gymnast." And that folks is why a lot of sports players get what some people think is an insanely high salary... at any time, with any i jury, their career could be over. Then what???

Well, I don't think so: Have you ever watched her competing in Brazil at the Pan American games? At the age of 14, she was the silver medalist and also floor exercise gold medalist. Do you remember "against" who she was competing with? Shawn Johnson. She also competed at the 2009 World championship and even though losing in the very end the all around gold medal, she was the bronze medalist in the uneven bars... her first world championship, right? And don't forget the fact that that same Rebecca Bross competed at the 2010 Worlds with an injured leg and even though she was able to win four medals, including a bronze one in the all around and a silver in the floor. Yes! There were more gymnast that were more successful than Rebecca but saying that she choked and not mentally strong, unfortunately, it's almost a denial of her career and all the success she had. No; she didn't choke nor was mentally weak. By the way, she was the completely opposite. Only to update: she's a hall of famer now.

Sometimes people are fortunate or unfortunate, based on all types of variables. The Bible can't change fate. It's also about timing. You can just be at the wrong place at the wrong time or vice versa...like you might be driving down the road and someone runs a red light and slams into you. Things happen. The Bible can't change that. It isn't like if you pray hard enough or read a bible thoroughly enough that nothing bad will ever happen to you. And yes, there is luck, fortune and misfortune. Everyone alive has experienced both. We don't always "deserve" everything that happens to us and we are not always in control of life events. Ecclesiastes 9:11 "I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all."
