You offer clothing, shoes, wigs, smokes, and phones, not to mention nights in hotels. The game is being played and you're the one who looses. Im a Deputy who works in a jail so I see cases like Rebecca all the time. These people need help. The drugs are just a symptom. Most of these people have trauma from their childhood which causes the mental illness. Often times drugs are used to self medicate. Its incredibly sad and will only get worse. We need to protect kids, have more resources and education, and a plan for these people. Thank you Mark for bringing light to a horrible situation but most of us are blind to this reality.

Mental illness can be organic, an imbalance in brain chemistry. My son was a paranoid schizophrenic and he was incarcerated close to 200 times for disorderly conduct, drunk in public etc. Incarceration is nothing more than a revolving door system. My son didn't get any sort of substantial mental healthcare while he was held which is what he needed. I'm gonna be very frank here. I honestly feel at this point, Rebecca needs professional help. Obviously. As admirable and noble as Mark's intentions are, getting Rebecca new phones (in which Rebecca ALWAYS SELLS to get more drugs) getting new clothes and a place to stay, and giving Rebecca attention by putting Rebecca on camera, these things have all become a luxury to Rebecca, and Rebecca has turned Mark's good intentions into ENABLING. That is why things are not changing. It's because Rebecca's illness is very severe and they are not well enough to have strong will power at this point to actually make a change. Again, Rebecca needs PROFESSIONAL help. No disprect to Mark, he's not a medical professional when it comes to treating addicts, especially as severe as Rebecca's case. He's only enabling Rebecca at this point. Rebecca loves the attention, being on camera, getting gifts from Mark and making broken promises. That's WHAT ADDICTS DO. They know how to manipulate their friends in order to get what they want to continue their cycle of addiction. I know this because my late sister was an alcoholic and drug addict, and she died at the age of 32 in August of 2019. Again, Rebecca needs actual liscenced professional help, otherwise we're going to keep going in circles here and nothing is going to change.

Unfortunately, in CA you can't force people into treatment due to outdated laws, it is a very rare occurrence. Rebecca likely has mental illness and addiction going on. My middle aged son was a chronically homeless paranoid schizophrenic and he self-medicated with alcohol, he was incapable of seeking help and we couldn't force it. I desperately want to fast forward to the end of this series and see Rebecca clean, sober, and living a successful life in Hollywood. Sadly I don't think that's the way her life will end. I know someone who suffers from schizophrenia and was self-medicating on the streets of LA. It took their mother paying a lot of money and fighting in court to get guardianship over him, then searching for him on the street and bringing him to a locked facility to clean him up and get him help. I don't know if Rebecca would have any mental health diagnosis other than addiction, but she seems to have many moods. I wish she would accept Mark's offers of help. It's so hard to watch her demise. So much potential and talent destroyed by addiction. Mark has a heart of gold and has grown to love Rebecca. As hard as it is for us to watch her continue to destroy herself, I can't imagine what it's like for Mark.

An important life lesson is that sometimes you have to accept that people are beyond help. Responsibility rests with the individual. If they are beyond a point that they take responsibility for their life, you cannot come to their rescue. I lost my mother to drug abuse and severe mental health issues a long time ago. You get to a point where their behaviour and the hurt they cause can directly effect you. If someone is unwilling to get help or improve their own situation, even slightly, they forfeit the right to your personal orbit. It is not your responsibility to fix others. Sometimes people are beyond help.

Based on Rebecca's description of how it feels it sounds more like gout, given that it's been going on for a while now. I really hope Rebecca's can get medical attention, antibiotics, get clean, as I worry, amongst other things, that They might become septic and way too far gone. I am from Scotland so I don't know what healthcare is like for homeless people in the USA. I hope my advice helps in some way. It's possible her feet are burned from walking on the sidewalks in LA without shoes. The temperature out there gets over 100 degrees and when there are sidewalks like that, it's very hot. She's also dragging her feet on the ground and getting cut. I think she's getting blisters from the hot sidewalks and getting cut on top of that. I think it is a combo of things. I think she's making it worse by grabbing and rubbing them all the time with dirty hands. But that one side of her foot looks blackened like it is terribly infected. It wouldn't surprise me if she also had some kind of fungus from the shoes she finds in dumpsters, too. Under the circumstances, she would be treated for free at any LA hospital that she walked into in the ER. People don't realize that, but it's illegal to turn anyone away regardless of citizenship, if they present at the ER.

I’ve been following Rebecca’s journey since the beginning… and it is NOT headed in a good direction. Her last video really made me step back and realize her decline. Aside from the newly-obvious hunched posture and increased psychosis… she’s much less appreciative of the help Mark is offering. I hate to say it, because I do believe she truly cares for Mark, but at this point, she is using him. She knows when she says “let’s go shopping”, Mark is going to buy her numerous clothing items, wigs, costume jewelry, etc. And that’s fine… because she deserves clean clothes just like anyone else. But what isn’t fine is these items, paid for by people here, are disposable to her. And then she asks for more and more. Clothes, phones, hotel rooms, clothes, phones, hotel rooms… it never ends. In this video, she asks for help with citizenship. And that is HUGE. She probably doesn’t understand the complexity of it… but it might just be the process she needs to get straight. This is beyond drugs at this point. She needs to be institutionalized and treated completely… and then she can work towards citizenship. It truly might be the only thing that saves her.

I completely agree. I found the last video really annoying, spitting and constantly swearing and calling Mark a bitch. I’m surprised there aren’t more comments on how we learned more about the ‘real’ Rebecca in this ‘episode’ than any other. Rebecca is super beautiful, talented, intelligent, charismatic, and creative. But also a textbook example of how often America fails to help fellow humans - especially those battling poverty, mental health issues, addiction, discrimination, and feelings of ‘terminal uniqueness’/hopelessness. I definitely don’t have all the answers, but I’m glad Mark is trying to raise awareness and help when he can.

I now wonder what her younger brother would have to say. We all watch these videos and pour our love onto Rebecca and think she has so much potential and we want help for her. But the reality may be that she is her brother's abuser. How many other mentally ill addicts who have never abused another human are out there needing help just as badly. Rebecca's brother may be in a similar state. Idk. I'm processing the video and my own feelings.

As much as I love seeing Rebecca and having these regular updates, I can't help but feel like at this point Rebecca is using you and being enabled a bit too much by you Mark. Not that your intention is to be an enabler, but Rebecca knows that she can just sit and wait for you and you will help her with her feet or go buy a new dress or a wig, or food. It's mentioned by Rebecca in the beginning that this is rock bottom but it doesn't seem to be rock bottom enough. I was so hopeful at the end of the last video that she would get some type of real help and am sad to see her yet again wailing over the pain in her feet. Please Mark, for Rebecca's sake, don't buy her anything anymore, don't pay her to do these videos. The only way someone with this severe of an addiction will finally do something about it is if they're forced to, which I know you already know. I think it's an uncomfortable truth that the way to help most of the people on the street who are capable of being helped is by abandoning them and allowing them to either get help or let their addictions take them. This is coming from my experience of 5+ years in the industry. It may feel good to bring them food and think we're helping them but we're not. They know they can just sit on the street and someone will drive by with a bite to eat or supplies. Unfortunately to truly save the small percentage that can still be saved, we have to stop helping them and put them in the position that they have to choose to help themselves or die.

@@thematriarchy2075 I considered mentioning mental health, but that’s on a case by case basis. And yes, absolutely anyone suffering from schizophrenia, or any other mental disorder needs help. However, our laws have made it such that we can’t force those people to get help either. Again, my comment goes to say that everyone wants to save everyone. But in reality we can only save a small percentage of the people who are on the street right now. Do you actually think Rebecca is ever going to be able to hold down a job? Do you think Rebecca is ever going to be able to live on her own, bathe herself, feed herself, pay bills on time? The sad reality is most likely not. The same is unfortunately true for the vast majority of people on skid row and everywhere else in the country who have been allowed to sit on the streets for years and melt their brains with drugs. There is no going back for those people. There is no happy ending for someone who has spent the last 15 years living in a tent, high on fentanyl. I often hear people say that the homeless just need housing and if we gave them a place to live they would be fine. I think Rebecca shows that that isn’t true. Mark has several times given her temporary housing and she squanders it repeatedly. When I worked in a homeless shelter, we had people who had to choose between drugs and their children. I’ll never forget the day I came into work, and one of the mothers living in the shelter OD’d. She left her two young daughters completely by themselves, they had no father figure to speak of. She knew what would happen to her children if she continued to use drugs, she didn’t care. Now those little girls have to live the rest of their lives knowing their mom chose another hit over being there for them. Drug addicts are not evil, and some can be helped if they want to be. Laws need to be reformed to allow the courts to intervene on a mentally ill person’s behalf when they aren’t able to do so themselves. We won’t fix homelessness and drug addiction by supplying them with food and clean needles.

I whole-heartedly agree. Rebecca was the reason I started watching Soft White Underbelly. Initially I viewed "her" as gentle, highly intelligent, creative, and full of potential. My friends and I donated generously and wanted nothing more than to see Rebecca succeed. Drugs or not, this aspect of Rebecca's character is vile. I hate hearing her call Mark names and am repulsed by how condescending and entitled "she" is. Intensive psychiatric treatment combined with long-term drug rehabilitation would be the greatest update.

I agree. It's gotten to the point where I'm not sure why people watch someone's decline for entertainment. We watch hoping someone will start to self reflect and climb out of the hole. We watched accepting that she wont change, but now, I just can't anymore. It's the same shit over and over. The ungratefulness is what has officially turned me away. Changing is a responsibility lots of people just don't want.

My guess is that, one day Mark, you're going to get completely fed up of doing this over and over and over for this person. When that day comes, and when you drive by and decide not to help, it's really going to hurt. It'll eat you up. You're going to feel like you've abandoned someone. But the truth is, you're wasting time and resources on someone who clearly wants nothing from you but what you can give to feed their addictions. There are so many others out there that you probably CAN save, with similar efforts. The ones that aren't too far gone yet. This person is too far gone. You're like a medic in the battlefield, and while there are others injured that could make it, this person's wounds are clearly incurable at this point. It's okay to move on. You did all that you, or anyone, could.

I get energetically drained just watching Rebecca through my phone sometimes. I can’t imagine how draining it is for you in person Mark. You are strong for doing this. Being compassionate to someone so deep into drugs (and possibly drug induced psychosis) is so difficult. I did it with my best friend who reminds me so much of Rebecca. An opinionated, music infatuated fashionista who was hooked on meth just like Rebecca is. He used to call me and tell me cameras were installed in his lightbulbs and that people were following him all the time. It was SO hard, but I didn’t give up on him. Today, my best friend is 5 years clean from meth now, living abroad in his own place and doing amazing. If he can do it, our friend Rebecca can too. She’s not “too far gone” as a lot of people are claiming here. My friend was just as deep into drugs and just as out of his mind and he completely turned his life around in one year. There’s absolutely hope for Rebecca.

How did your friend get clean and sober? That's so encouraging to hear!
@OFFICIALLUSH Жыл бұрын
@@WZech-ly8dm He got clean because he lost everything and then almost lost his life being around the wrong people, enabling his addiction. He decided to secretly move into his mothers and taper off of meth and started leaning in more towards marijuana as maintenance (not substitution) for the anxiety that has always riddled him his whole life from past traumas. As he tapered off meth, he spent an entire year in solitude at his mothers house to reflect and get his brain close to where it used to be with lots of therapy and meetings. After that year, he wanted to start testing the waters and living his new life as a sober person. And he did! It was an emotional roller coaster ride because you’re in the middle of the crazy life you have been living and the life you actually want to have. But If you are mentally ready for the jump, with lots of love and a good support system, anything is possible. But I think even without all the extras, having the WILL to do it is more powerful than anything else. It takes more than a few months, as it is an entire life change. But it is absolutely possible for anyone with the determination to do it.
@Glitteryflaps Жыл бұрын
This is the result of severe child abuse. Rebecca seems to admit it here and there in her interviews. She mentions she was sexually abused but will be seen avoiding and changing the subject swiftly or all of a sudden covering up her story once she’s accidentally let it out. She has very clearly got mental health issues brought on from trauma. The drugs and absolutely no support for her mental health has absolutely sent her brain in a state of delusion and psychosis regularly. She would still have bits of her left and that’s seen in some interviews where she’s a few days sober. Glimpses of who she truly is does become evident in parts of her personalities. Even though she changes personalities she still shows some bits of her true self. I’m sad for Rebecca.. who ever is responsible for her trauma is the devil themselves. If someone in her family loved her and cared about her she wouldn’t be on the streets barely living like a functioning human in society. This is someone long gone. I really hope she’s okay. I know that Rebecca would appreciate people using her appropriate pronouns and seeing her as the woman she is. I just wish she knew how handsome she was as a male as well. Someone or some people have completely destroyed this angels life. Child abuse is horrible and I’d bet my limbs that most people on skid row have had a horrific child hood.

Yes! I've been saying that hat exact thing in so many of Rebecca's videos. It was her mom sadly. Rebecca mentioned a couple of times being adopted so not sure it it's true. Her dad was completely absent yet rich and I think that triggered the mothers rage and with them bring alone she got to really mentally and physically torture Rebecca for being a man. Rebecca only really emotionally crumbles even though only for a moment here and there, but it's the deep emotional pain that cannot be touched... And the mom must have been obsessed with fashion. All of Rebecca's references are spot on. May she find peace in her next life. Rebecca knowing Mark has cared and been there for her all these years means more than others realize. @@firehorse66100 What a great response. It's perfect to show how different people respond to their different kinds and combinations of abuse. Our home had abandonment and isolation and abuse mentally and physically . My mother is a histrionic malignant narcissist. She was a pedophile of boys, impressive alcoholic and severely abused us daily mentally and physically. She also did everything in her power to destroy me because she considered me the competition as I was the only girl and most vulnerable and I wouldn't back up her lies. It's been 28 years no contact with her. Two kinds of responses come from emotional needs of children not being met. Empath and narcissist. Both are trauma responses. Narcissist brain comes from as a child realizing their needs will not be met so they self rely only. This response is to make it so no one can hurt them again like that and it keeps them feeling safe. Empath sees needs being not met and fills the need to attempt to calm the waters possibly at any cost . They end up over helpful to others and continue to neglect themselves. There are of course variations and only a casual braid explanation. 🌈 💜 🌈

His father brought him to America, bought him an appartament. He shat and pissed in that appartament until it was unlivable and then stood up and gone. Same story with pissing in a hotel. He said himself 'Im too lazy to ho to the bathroom'. Also, he just revealed sexual abuse in his childhood with his brother. Thats where the character of Rebecca steams from -childhood sexual abuse. This trans thing is just a trauma response. I AM SORRY, BUT FROM TODAY I AM NOT ROOTING FOR REBECCA ANYMORE. Everything has time limits. @@CS-xn6vbdoes starting with “if” show that there is 100% certainty that she’s going to see my comment? Maybe there’s a possibility I was just sending good energy to them via a comment.

ISMAIL SEOUDI!! Rebecca’s actual name. It’s astonishing that people are not talking about how much information about her true self she actually revealed in this video. If you’ve been following Rebecca’s videos, you’ll know that there was deep trauma that’s happened in her past for her to start self medicating (drug use) and live out this completely different character. A visa overstay? LGBT persecution in the Middle East? I know in recent interviews she and her situation have become really harsh to watch but I truly hope Mark doesn’t give up on her yet and tries a different approach in trying to help her - because her story is important and clearly a lot more complex . 🙏🏽

Also, it kinda makes sense now! Rebecca is not an American living homeless in America -with American family/friends. She is an illegal immigrant - ALONE - who in her very early 20s - tried to seek asylum in the US (fled their country due to human rights violations, maybe LGBT related) - now living homeless - with no one, no citizenship rights, no money and mental health and substance addiction issues. Her problems extend way pass something a wig, phone and dresses could ever fix.

I don’t think R is from Egypt. I know several Egyptians who live here now and they have discernible accents. R has zero accent.
