What I have realized about these videos is every time people say Mark must help , they don't understand that you can't help someone that doesn't want help e.g. Amanda . They gotta want to do better and be better , forcing them into programs will make them worse . Addiction although support needed is a individual journey . Many times people go to rehab over and over because they always forced not because they want to . When they truly want help they know where to find him and many people like Mark in skid row that will offer help . For now we can appreciate and be empathetic to their stories , learn lessons and be more kind to the addicts we see in real life. They must want help before one can help them . Till then we can pray for them and hope they end up wanting what we wish for them (to be clean ) .

mimi michelle Yes, the biggest obstacle I see is that these people simply cannot accept good into their lives. They seem subconsciously driven to fail and suffer, which I believe stems from something that happened when they were children or sometimes brain chemistry imbalances later in life. In either case it’s just so heartbreaking to see someone like Rebecca who could clearly live a fulfilling life if these blocks weren’t in her way. Even if someone were to give them everything they need to get themselves together their inability to accept that help is the real issue. How do you fix the damage that occurred at six years of age? That’s why prevention is our best bet, in my opinion. “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”-Frederick Douglas

mimi michelle so true. Speaking from personal experience (ie family and friends) help is available to anyone who WANTS it. The people I know choose to be homeless because they want to have their cake (or crack) and eat it too. They will not comply with the requirements of taking meds and/or being abstinent at the facilities, programs, etc. offering help. Dual diagnosed individuals are probably the hardest to help but I’m not an expert. My father drank himself to death when he was only 43. I’ve chosen to go to rehab twice and had long periods of sobriety. I definitely have a higher “bottom” than others as I will get my sh*t together when I recognize that my job might be on the line, etc. I’ve had childhood trauma and was in therapy for 10+ years and the only thing I really learned is people don’t change UNLESS they work hard at it consistently over a very very long period of time. It’s very difficult and sometimes picking up a drink or something else is the quickest way to relief, fleeting though it may be. (Edit: I need to add that the people commenting that Mark “should” do something have obviously NEVER dealt with addicts and/or mentally ill people. Mark IS doing something for these individuals by listening and providing an outlet and bringing attention to this element of society.)

@sarah j. Or maybe what happened is simply too traumatic for her to want to recount with a total stranger regardless? You call it exploitation..... I call it helping. It helps bring awareness to people with these problems.....which can make the average joe/jane watching this be more aware of people who live like this.....because many of us in the suburbs have never seen people like this. It makes us want to help more and feel sympathy for people in similar situations. Shows them in a unedited raw way that gives them a chance to be heard, when most of them haven't had that chance before because they think that nobody on earth cares about them. Also serves as a cautionary tale against things like substances and sheds light on the failures of our society, like the foster care system for example. I may be wrong, but personally I think the person behind the camera genuinely cares for these people and he can be heard on camera most of the time literally asking them if they want help in some way or another. Many of them decline because they're simply not ready yet, or don't want it. You can't force a grown adult to get help.

I think belief in herself is only one of so many things she needs. Endless opportunities sounds a bit like a fairytale, Rebecca is so far from any type of stable life that it’s impossible to gauge what could be possible. There is so much going on here and all that is possible is getting through each day as they come. So many people seem to fantasise the lives of these people and see them as future models, film stars etc. It’s bizarre, these are troubled people who would need help to cope with even the most basic of tasks.

I feel like mark wasn't expecting this mood from rebecca so it probably threw him off and he didnt know how to go about talking to her in a way that would make her loosen up. I have so many other questions I would have tried to ask her that I wish mark would have asked, I feel like even though also of the homeless population is still outdoor right now during the pandemic life is just as stagnant for then as it is for us, thier normality is out of wack too, alot of what they used to love is longer available and they need to find ways to cope with their days, rebecca's been actually getting sleep which I think sobers her up, I dont think she know how to live as a sober person and its possibly scaring her, she depressed, I know she didnt want to talk about it but shes struggling alot right now. I dont want to shes what she said as a negative but the fact that shes just been released from a psych hold and she says she feels something good is coming makes me correlate the two together. I can't tell if she is more sober or less manic right now. Or if something extremely traumatic has happened to her recently and she doesn't want her previous persona. She looks cleaner, a little more serious and her clothes fit, so I'm hoping she's doing better. Also, I hope no one in the comments starts calling her queen, or ICONIC, or goes yaassss. That's really condescending and that was all over the last two interviews.

@@AlzillaRoxxx I'm aware, she is very captivating in her previous interviews. Colloquialisms aside, she isn't Joanne the Scammer, RuPaul, or Pray Tell. She is suffering from mental illness, abandonment and addiction. So it comes across as baby gays trying to show their solidarity while accidentally sidestepping the real issues. I don't know if she can be called iconic when that inconography is rooted in a week long bender with no sleep. When she is sober and healthy, she will take the world by storm. Wanting to be a professional Olsen twin IS an iconic line. But until then, respectfully I say that while the intentions are good, the comments are tone deaf.

alexa k Thank you for noticing. I’m definitely not an interviewer. I’m a photographer who is trying to capture people’s stories on video and often I need to ask questions to get them to share information that they normally wouldn’t. With some people, like Eric, Cassandra, Louis or Niqi I can just let them talk, but with many others I have to pry a bit. Everyone always thanks me for getting them to open up about these things they’ve never shared before, but I’ll admit my technique was a bit cringeworthy early on. I’m learning from my mistakes, but I still see commenters bashing me for that time I misspelled the word “pharaoh” back in fourth grade. Thank you Alexa

Out of all your interviews I've watched, I feel a type of affinity to Rebecca more so than anyone else. Like if I was to truly say, "fck it all, I want to live completely free of society's grip and norms and completely let loose and be 'free'" (which I crave so much on a daily basis), this could be me. On the other hand I feel like she isn't at all free because there is so much torment and instability in a mental and emotional sense, that she's almost trapped now in this way of life. Overall, I just see so much of a beautiful and pure, but lost soul in Rebecca. I wish her all the best, although I'm watching all of her videos start to finish right now in April 2023 and I accidentally watched her latest interview which doesn't look good. I wish there was some way I could help her directly but as I have learnt in the absolute hardest way, you cannot help people who are not ready to be helped and aren't willing to face the true reality of their current circumstance. I love this person very much and I pray that that love reaches her somehow.

I find it really powerful to drop any and all judgement within myself when I watch these interviews. Which is not easy. But it allows me to see these people a bit more clearly, listen more deeply. Dropping judgement also helps me see the way they serve our world, and our overall awareness (global consciousness), exactly as they are. Perhaps Rebecca's soul is exactly where she needs to be, not lost at all. Something to think about.

Vast majority of these people are messed up from drugs, which leads to mental illness. Most of the people who drop out and end up hopelessly addicted started taking drugs at a young age. Studies show if you can stop kids from taking drugs before 21, they are much less likely to have problems and drop out. Maybe we need to be more pro-active when kids are going down the wrong path.

People in the comment section of Rebecca's videos always go wild about the pronouns and I hate it. Rebecca obviously dresses like a woman and called herself "trans" in her first interview. Yes, her sex (biological) is male, her gender (psychological) is female. Why the hell does it bother some of you so much using the pronouns "she/her"? It's a way of respecting someone and I guess she could use a little bit of respect or any positive vibes in her life. Also I've read comments saying she's a disgrace for "real transgender women" because Rebecca's look is rather sloppy. Well, try to look like a decent human being (or a "real transgender woman", respectively) when you literally don't even have a tent to sleep in.

@@chewbacca1238 Dysmorphia literally means an abnormality and distortion from the proper state of a thing or being. It's a disorder. Why is it that people acknowledge anorexia which is a form of body dysmorphia as a mental illness but lately in the past decade or so people with body dysmorphia when it comes to sex are encouraged to live out their illness. Treating the symptoms with surgery and crossdressing etc. but not actually getting help they so desperatley need and addresing the core fundamental issues of self rejection and intense uncomfortabilty within their own bodies? It's a shame. These people need love and help, they don't need a mental condition encouraged. It's not helping them deep down in the core. It's destructive to themselves and society. Most of these folks suffer from deep depression hence the drugs. If these folks had better access to mental health and how to manage their depression whether on meds, consistent therapy and family support, they may not turn to drugs. Rebecca is one of these people. Seems sober in "this" interview but severely depressed/bi-polar. A lot of potential if managed with the right meds and therapy. These folks also have a lot of pride which keeps them away from families who love and support them (those who have them), and away from rehab. Some of them actually think they can stop whenever they want to but don't realize drugs have a grip on them and not the other way around. Their "freedom" while living on the streets gives them a false sense of independence and feel they can manage things on their own, but they can't. Rebecca is smart and funny, but delusional, severally depressed and his fleeting dreams will only make his depression worse. Most of these things can be managed and it's a shame because he's his own enemy. Would love to see him sober. A person with his personality and wit would make this world a better place.
