Paul Rubens definitely gets an A+ for packaging. Those tins wrapped in these lovely cloths are just a joy to have. It's a shame that the browns in this floral set aren't quite what we'd expect. I guess two (better) browns would have done and a Payne's Grey could have been added instead. Ah well, we still love the other bright colors 😂 Thanks for the review, Becky ❤

I wish I would have known about this set before I bought the other one. I would happily have swapped out the browns and slipped in a Payne's grey. Oh well, I am sure it will be available when I am ready to buy more paint. Right now I have paint coming out of my ears, so it's really hard to justify a new palette. That being said, I love that little lightwish paper binder! There was a coupon for that, plus I had some credit soooo, even though I do have loads of paper, I justified it! lol. It looks like a good travel book for when we go camping, and that's my best justification...haha... Such pretty florals you painted! I especially love the second one. Those bright flowers really pop against that dark back ground. Lastly, glad to hear you are on the mend!

Hi Becky, I have the Floral Tube Set and I compare it to this half pan set. I did notice some differences like some colors are a bit better. Thats pretty much the only difference.

The wildflower painting is beautiful! I love the colours and the background is gorgeous. I thought no she's gone quite mad when you started the background with a green 😂 definitely worked though! The paper looked amazing...the way the paint flowed and blended when you did the wet on wet looked so fun. I would definitely buy these paints but I've just been on a Daniel Smith splurge lol I do have the large tin of metallic or pearlescent watercolours from Paul Reuben and like them very much. Do you have a favourite brand of watercolours or just favourite colours from various ones? I think I'm the latter. Thanks for always painting something when you swatch and review. Very enjoyable videos to watch and you always do lovely pieces. Your cover page is pretty also...love the lavender colour 😊

The sienna was the most difficult to activate, and it's so much lower tinting than the others. The browns were...alright? Not my favourites though!

I'm obviously not a watercolour artist, but I have some Kristy Rice paints, I really need to try out. I'm nervous, since I'm not experienced in flowers and her paints and her style is very much about the florals too. People do amazing watercolour flowers and it's an area very much outside of my comfort zone. Your title page came out really well, considering you didn't really plan it.

Watercolours are certainly a bit daunting to begin with! They don't behave like oil paints which are so easy to layer etc, but I love the unpredictability of watercolour. I'd seen the Kristy Rice set, but I've got too much already, haha! I hope you give it a go - once you get the hang of it, they're fun! 😄

@@BeckyTregear You wouldn't cope with Kristy's palette, as she has no pigment info. That stuff isn't really important to her. She is more about having run painting and not worrying about all the technical stuff that might scare newbies off.

Hi Becky, This set never did come up on the Prime Day sale, despite several people saying it would. Maybe only in the US? Anyway, thanks for the review, it's still on my W/L. I really like PR paints = they lay down nicely on the Baohong paper. I found the earth colours (not this set but the YouLan and another set I bought, styled as "Set B") work okay if you pre-wet and allow to soak a bit. I had much more trouble with the brown in the W&N 24 half pan set, which were really weak and quite awful. Glad you're feeling better! Cheers.

I saw that Rosa botanical set online; I'm curious about it, and how it would compare to the Paul Rubens one. I'm not sure I can justify buying it....but it's in the name of science! Oooh that's a good reason, haha! 😂

I've been wondering about the Lightwish books, I'm so glad you included it in this review! And yes, I usually prefer natural hair brushes, but the Princeton Aqua Elites and Neptunes are great.

The Lightwish book is nice - the paper is a decent cotton, so I'm happy about that! Princeton brushes are excellent. 😄

I have been trying to decide between the floral set and the 5th generation set. Which would you recommend?

That's a hard one...haha! I'd lean towards the 5th generation if you want to have a solid overall colour set which includes a black, and has a more intense brown. The florals set has more bright colours, and I do love the turquoise and lavender....ahhh so hard to pick, haha! But 5th gen first I'd say! Did you see my review video on that set? That might help for choosing purposes too.

Hi Becky, If I were wealthy, I would buy all of Paul Rubens' paints.😅 I like the flowers you painted. The photos were also lovely. Have you tried a Google search on your flowers? Or like take a picture of the flowers with your phone and then do a Google search on your picture. Do you even have Google?😮 I don't know what other countries have on their phones. What a quandary. Anyway, your paintings are beautiful.
