I'm currently on my way back home from a 5 day trip, during the trip i repeatedly thought to myself how happy i am with the ease of handling the bike due to the slow seat height and ease of operation, here's a fresh example: i took a ferry and i remember feeling a bit anxious about maneuvering onboard on a slippery surface, then the felt relief when i realized that i can flat foot the bike - i can't tell you how many times i've dropped bikes from the late 80s till now. Each time i go on a multi day trip i fall in love with the bike all over again, i wish you have the ability to test ride one out before you make a decision. I finally sold my sportster 48 and picked up a brand new 2022 rebel 1100 dct! Been watching all your videos and this one saved my side covers. The dealer installed an sae plug which was awesome since I took it home in low 40s. This allowed me to plug in my all my Milwaukee leather heated gear with an adapter. After a couple short rides I noticed those side covers just didn't look right and sure enough they didn't install those clips right exactly like you thought! Thanks for all your experience.

@On the Rebel 11 new muffler is first for sure! Probably just adapt the one from the ctx that was a sportster slip on. Then swingarm bags and a tail bag and probably a small windscreen for now. Absolutely loving the bike, its everything I was hoping it was!

I've no wish to desecrate the environment with noise, but I want to make it simple (and safe) to raise the rear wheel to clean and lubricate the chain.

@@m2menuiserie540 🙏 thank you!! My exhaust was hand made in sweeden, I got lucky because a fellow owner decided to sell it. It is a straight pipe so it is loud, but a dB killer can be added to it. I'm sure you can find a local shop in France to make one for you. It might be a little expensive because everything has to be done and welded by hand, I appreciate it because watching the welding process is like watching an artist, it is very difficult!

Fantastic review once again 👏. I am 61, and have been riding since I was 16. I have had many bikes over the years, and have been on Harleys and Buells since 1992. At 5 foot 4 inches, and joints that aren't so supple as they once were then ergonomics, and driving/manoeuvring characteristics are equally important as bhp, lean angle, and 0-60..... I applaud your comprehensive, and informative reviews, and feel that a departure from my beloved V-twins to a parallel may well be on the horizon. Thanks, and keep them coming. Ride safe 🙏 👍

Excellent video, Gus. It is absolutely amazing how my observations are EXACTLY the same as yours. I have the same identical bike as you do. I have found the same issues as you have, and your workarounds are spot on. I also appreciate all the work you put into this video showing the different things you talked about. I have made a few adjustments to improve my comfort, (Corbin Gun Slinger seat and Burly Brand Mini Ape handlebars). I think the most significant improvement which came from your suggestion is the Cruisetec Tires. They have completely changed the handling and comfort of the bike. I cannot thank you enough for that suggestion. I have a little over 14,000 miles on my bike and ride it almost daily down here in Florida. Honda makes a great product and I think the only bike I would trade this one for would be the Gold Wing. (I have to wait until my financial manager (wife) approves it though.) haha Thank you again. @ 17 minutes in I got inspired. Yeah, we don't want no wheelie control or traction control. This bike makes sense. In the early days BMW was known for making dependable lightweight touring bikes that could hold a lot of weight. However, either what people wanted, or what people thought they wanted, or what designers and engineers thought people wanted, whatever it was, they no longer were lightweight tourers. I believe this bike should have a long historical run. It makes sense. Maybe I should buy one before they're not lightweight anymore. I like the soft luggage. Hope it will keep stuff dry in the rain.

Hi Ray, we thing alike! I was asking myself why i love this bike so much when there are so many others out there, the simple answer is that it is so easy to ride and own! In the sense that it is so light, nimble, fun, powerful, exciting and just a breeze to roll backwards or just roll it around. I have done sever trips of a few thousand miles each, the longest being 3,000 miles. I love the light weight setup for touring that i have, and the bags have a waterproof liner and have been tested in heavy rain over several hours per day, no problems at all.

Gus, best piece of advice you've provided... Know when to run the transmission in Automatic mode, when cruising, and when to run it in Manual mode anytime you do the twisties or roads with lots of curves where you don't want the bike shifting in the middle of a turn automatically. Experience is the best teacher! My HD Sport Glide is the same way in curves... it's much much better to have your bike in a lower gear and have the throttle control less sensitive than have it in a higher gear and having an engine with a lot of displacement and torque, having a twitchy throttle cause your rear end to sag, front end to come up, and destroy the line you're riding through the turn on a high HP high torque engine. I was looking into a Rebel 1100, but at 6' 5", there was no way for it to fit me properly with those mid peg controls.

Fantastic video, very detailed and answered to all my questions even to the non existing ones. I got my Rebel in March 21 And got 12,100 miles on it. So far no problems and my tires are still look good. It's interesting about the vibration. I never had it ,but now I now why. I adjusted my rear socks the same way you did. On the end of the first ride and didn't go faster than 60 miles hour. The only thing bothers me is the ergonomics. I'm 5'10.5" 181 Lbs. and my shoulders and lower back was hurting after an hour. Finally I got a driver's back rest from Japan maid for the Rebel. Made by Daytona. What a difference. Strongly recommended. No more back pain and my shoulders are 50% better also. I wish I vould of gotten them a year ago. They are $275.00 One more funny thing. I ride my bike with the cruise control exactly the same way you are doing it. By the way I'm always in the manual mode custom sporty setting by me. I just love to pull that trigger all the time. I wanted to trade it for Something else, but just couldn't do it. I think I'm going to get the same tires you recommended when I need them. I also got an air seat cover. a better horn a cool GPS and soft grips and still love the bike. You really got me excited about the DCT with your demo using manual and cruise control. Rebel 1100 vs Suzuki DE800 but even at 5 feet 10 inches I don't really like tall bikes.

Hi Paul!! Thanks man, that's very kind of you!! BTW, after a 10 year break from riding and a whole year of research, i had decided to get a 2021 NC 750X, after failing to located any in the states i couldn't wait any longer.... The rebel 1100 DCT was released and i chose to keep an open mind and give it a try with the option of trading it in when the NC showed up. Little did i know that i was going to fall in love with this bike, the only NC i'm interested in now is the State (excellent roads)!! Things happen for a reason and i'm proud of myself for not being my usual stubborn self and keeping an open mind instead. The Rebel with the DCT rekindled my passion for bikes and i'm always looking at something to top it, nothing out there with such a package that fits both my stature and riding style! I also predict when i get a second bike, that i will gravitate to the rebel for it's ease of use and addictive high. come on Rebel 1300 DCT already!! @@ontherebel11 the problems with the nc700x as follows: 2tall means it's trickier to deal with because of the height and getting solid footing when you're say backing the bike up and there's a little sand on the pavement. Second problem is you sit up too high in the Wind third when you corner you've got a long way to go to get the bike down into the Curve third I find myself tempted to occasionally scrape eggs and that's not really safe on the street. Thus a cruiser solves these issues. The rebel 1100 is more than a knockoff Harley and I really like the touring package with the hard bags and batwing fairing, cruise control and DCT is something you can't get in any other brand. Parallel twins are today's go to engine and 82 horsepower is perfect more than 50 that the ncx has but less than 100 which opens the door to unsafe speeds.

I am a 60 year young returning rider (10 year break) and itching to get back on two wheels. Until very recently, my only reference to Rebels were the 250cc bikes used in MSF beginner classes. Boy, have they come a long way! While I'm just beginning my new bike exploration and have yet to look around and see what's even out there, there is really something about this bike that is ringing all the bells for me. Thank you for your very thorough breakdown and especially including the recommendation for returning riders! I'm already pretty sure I know what my next new ride will be and getting crazy excited about it! I think Honda must get some kind of cut from Corbin or Mustang though. I owned a Shadow and could not swap out my stock seat for a Mustang fast enough. Man, was that a painful seat. I was originally leaning toward the manual version (it's what I know), but you've said some things that have sweetly been swaying me toward checking out the DCT. Your dragging the brake with one hand kind of blew my mind. I used to take great pride in slow maneuvers, but they did require a lot more coordination and definitely required two hands. Hmm... automatic...

Hi Spryttle, one of my favorite comments!! I was in your shoes in 2020, i had stopped riding for 10 years and decided to get back into it. After extensive research that lasted a year, fate intervened. I was not in the market for a cruiser, my background is motocross and sportbike riding. My search criteria was is there an "automatic" motorcycle as i was tired of the clutch - did enough of that. The results brought me to the NC750X which i convinced myself that i was going to love, only to be disappointed when the 2021 model never showed up at my dealership or anywhere.... that's when they released the rebel 1100 DCT - i kept an open mind and did lots of research and self reflecting. out of desperation i "settled" for the cruiser.... little did i know that i was going to fall madly in love with it! I was so shocked that i decided to document my journey so that if someone like me was looking for a bike, they will find the answers to the same questions i had - is it fun, am i going to like it, does it handle well, is it reliable, what the hell is DCT and how does it work, how do you ride a DCT, will i be able to control which gear i am in? how does cruise control work on the a bike, what problems does the DCT have and how much will it cost to repair if it breaks, a million questions as i'm sure you can imagine. In all honesty, my biggest disappointment with the bike is that it wasn't comfortable for me as i am vertically challenged. I tried to document my experimentations with comfort mods in hopes that it will help someone out - at least to present options for possible solutions. once i dialed it in, it fit like a glove! I just walked in the house after a 1,300 mile trip, i fell in love with the bike all over again! I am looking forward to the next generation of the rebel 1100! I am very excited about getting a second bike, but i just can't go back to a manual.... the DCT is superior in every way imho. @@ontherebel11 I rode the new scooter home today! She finally found her way to the Honda dealer. I felt a little dusty, so of course needed to get a quick hour in to blow some of the cobwebs out. Yours is the first video I'm rewatching now that I can actually look at specific aspects of the bike. I think the risers, seat and mid-controls will be the first to change. It's a fun bike, but the riding position make my shoulders a bit angry. I'm actually really enjoying the DCT, although I find myself ghost shifting constantly. lol! Pretty jazzed! Great video. I have the manual rather than the DCT variant and some mods, including a cheap small screen, engine guards with cylindrical steel footpegs, none OEM saddle bags, bar end mirrors, hand guards, re-upholstered seats with extra padding by a local firm that my Honda dealer recommended themselves, but the best mod you can possibly do is get rid of those god awful Dunlop tyres. They are absolutely shocking. After around 2k miles, I had so much vibration on mine that I came very close to selling the bike. I had no idea what was causing it. Tried removing the screen and changing the pre-load thinking it was maybe a variation of the wobble problem (not that I've had that myself). Rear tyre was close to being worn after 6k miles and thankfully no OEM tyres anywhere to be found, so went with the Avon Cobras, but the Metz that you have were a very close 2nd. It's a completely different bike now. No vibration, better grip, especially in the wet and on poor road surfaces, they perform so much better than the Dunlops. I'll never use those again. Happy New Year from the UK.

As fate would have it, the 2021 nc750x was delayed to arrive at the dealership, and at the same time the rebel 1100 DCT came out, I couldn't wait to get back to riding after a 10 year break, so I got the rebel 1100 DCT instead, I couldn't have been happier, I doubt that I would have loved the nc750x as much as the rebel 1100, such a fun bike to ride! I'm at 24k miles and still loving it! 🤙

Great review Gustav, as a fellow 1100 DCT owner can only fully endorse your comments on use of the DCT, if you want to go for it in the curves use manual, DCT for a chilled ride or coping with traffic congestion. I'm now 67, been riding since 17, but for me now this bike offers more than enough performance, looks great, handles really well and so far ultra reliable. Only thing I disagree on, forward controls. I went for the De Pretto Moto set and with arthritic hips, a game changer, tried highway pegs on crash bars but didn't work for me but that is personal ergonomics.

If there is speed wobble, check to see if you are supposed to have some steering head bearing preload. On my old BMW, whe you have the front wheels off the ground, you check to see if the steering head bearnings have worn, by looking for a worn notch type condition when you turn the wheel left and right. If the bearing races have word a slight valley in them, you will feel the notch. It it turns smooth the same from left to right, without the notch in the middle, then you look for a slight resistance in turning left to right. The front wheel should not just flop over 'till it clangs against the stops. There is supposed to be some resistance. To adjust that you turn the adjustment wheel on top of the steering head. I believe when this is set right, it might alleviate some slight front wheel wobble at speed due to worn tires or whatever else. If you feel a notched condition, Do Not Tighten The Steering Head Bearing Preload. Replace the bearings and races.

Hi Ray! You are correct, Head bearings could definitely cause this, however in my case it is a result of the sag, the stock suspension sucks, i have recently upgraded my rear shocks to ohlins and the bike is solid as a rock at 100 mph, i recommend that you watch that video to see the high speed testing.

Great video! Love mine so much, got a couple thousand miles on it already since summer. It's my daily for work and I really think it's as good of a city commuter as any other bike out there. So comfortable in traffic (especially with the dct), quick AF, and more maneuverable than it should be for an 1100cc bike. They're tough too! Wrecked mine pretty good, but after some new forks and handlebars, it's back to riding like new. I'm 5'9" w/ short legs and use the T-Rex extenders on my pegs. I've got em set at the first adjustment spot, and it's almost perfect. Just enough forward to relax the legs, but still have a sportier/scrambler feel. Gonna check out those bar extenders you have and see how that'd make mine feel. I'm in the process of bobbing it out, so trying lots of different ergonomic stuff out while I do.

Maybe a vendor will design a front fork brace, that would help eliminate high speed wobble also make sure rear tire is in alignment after adjusting. if the rear shocks are set too soft, can cause that as well, These are all adjustments I made on a older H.D. sportster to eliminate wobble. maybe it would work for you.? The new 1100 T model is very interesting, fuel tank could be a little larger as well. Sounds like a purchase of extended warranty might be needed too, Since I think Honda only give a 1 year warranty. Best review I have seen so far on the Honda Rebel 1100 , Thankyou for taking the time to do it !!!

Thanks for your review. It gave me some good ideas to try. I bought my Rebel in early November only has 1k now love the DCT due to tendinitis and arthritis, but the shift timing is harsh at times. I’m going to try the manual button and a little more comfortable seat is in the near future. I went with the Memphis Shade Batwing for me it has been a great investment.

After several thousand miles, maybe 40k or 50k, I felt and heard a "crunching" sound coming from the front wheel (I was doing about 50mph). I slowed down to about 30 and rode another 5 miles home. The bike didn't handle bad or have any issues, I was just nervous about the noise. I took the front wheel off and yes, one of the front bearings was bad. I would just check the bearings every time I have the wheels off. Don't take the bearings apart, they are sealed with grease from the factory. Just put your finger in them and turn them around. If they rotate smoothly, they are ok. Of course if they don't feel right, then replace them (in pairs). However, IMO, a bad bearing is not going to cause you to crash. BTY, I was riding the bike in Winter in Wisconsin for years with salt and sand on the roads which probably contributed to the deterioration of the bearing. This was on my Valkyrie which is a much heavier bike, 750lbs.

Thank you for your insight James. I have just one question brother, do bearings fail and may cause the a wheel to lock? If you answered yes, why should I risk it to save $100? When it comes to critical components such as beirings, tires, brakes, chain and sprockets, I personally prefer to change them at 80% of their life, but I totally understand if others don't want to.

@@ontherebel11 Answer, when my front wheel bearing failed, the wheel kept turning just fine and there was no noticeable wobble in the front end. As I said, I slowed to about 30mph and rode another 5 miles, concerned that there may be a catastrophic issue but there was none. I just took the wheel off, replace both bearings, put the wheel back on and kept on going. Again this was after 40k or 50k miles in a sometimes salty sandy environment. If you didn't open your bearings up to look at them, I'd have you ship them to me as spares, I'd pay the shipping. Once you open them up, they're contaminated. Yeah, they looked a bit dirty, but they still turned fine. What was wrong with your good sprockets?

@@ontherebel11 Piece/peace of mind to me is run the OEM stuff until it needs to be replaced. Honda makes good stuff. If you keep replacing stuff even if it is OEM, there is a possibility of you making a mistake and your warranty is void because you changed things. I have a 5 year extended warranty. The warranty doesn't cover some things but it covers most things.

Hi Christian! That's a tough one brother. Just be honest with yourself about what you want, let it be an emotional decision so that you don't regret getting something that might be better on paper but your heart is somewhere else. Compare what turns you off between the two rather than what you like about them. If you are able to overlook brand loyalty, the decision will come to you, sleep on it.

Thanks for providing such a detailed review of the Rebel 1100. I may have missed it, but earlier in the video you mentioned a work-around for the foot pegs when on longer freeway rides. I'm currently shopping for the same bike, but concerned about not having a place to install freeway pegs. Looking forward to your insights. :)

Great video as per usual.👏 Had exactly the same idea about a pannier/s on the sissy bar. You beat me to it. But have to disagree with the riding hard in automatic mode… I actually find it works pretty well. I’m full on power, minimum or off on T, min on EB and max on shifting. And as soon at it is twisty and I go hard it holds the gears really well. Only thing is that when I brake moderately hard into turns it wants second when often third would be my choice. Just my 25 cents.

I'm glad to hear you are not disappointed! the same thing happened to me, if i can help it, i don't think i'll ever own a manual bike again, except if i get a small adventure bike like the XT 250 for a little off road fun. Have you thought of a way to connect the carrier to the sissy bar? i am trying to come up with a way that will allow me to attach it and remove it easily, the 2 options i'm considering is to fabricate and weld a bracket to the slc carrier and use the 2 backrest screws to attach it to the sissy bar. The second option is to use swivel pipe clamps if i can find the right ones for cheap. but in all honesty, the zip ties are rock solid!

Common treatment of 0- rings is to grease around the whole thing. Always do that with 0-rings. They might not seal properly without grease all the way around. If you are not used to using anti-seize on nearly all bolts, I would recommend it. I like the copper anti-seize.

Very good observation on source of whistle at speed over 40 mph. I would offer this, and I hope it's not TMI, that, having tried various windscreens, I realized it often can take a lot of trial and error to locate noise sources. In general, the higher the pitch the sharper the edge or groove that it's generated by. So if your aftermarket screen or fairing has sharp edges try filing (or filling as you did) to smooth airflow. Cockpit turbulence can also affect noise. Your jacket, helmet, etc, can be sources of noise also.
