The uniform of the main bad guy resemble Soviet uniforms because he's basically a ripoff of WH 40K commissars (who are in turn loosely based on Soviet commissars). Even the evil empire is called Imperium. How subtle. It's almost impressive that mr. Snyder managed to "borrow" from so many franchises at the same time

What if in the beginning Kora was actually a plain farm girl on the Moon and the moon was a well developed and prosperous colony kinda like a Solar Punk type of society. Until the Empire of the Motherworld invaded the colony for their resources and the colonizers are slaves to the invaders. They lived under their rule and oppression for 5 years. Kora witnesses her friends and family die while escaping the colony and she fleas to find help to liberate her colony. Throughout the movie she goes through survivors guilt and she trains under the rebellion and what if it’s the rebel’s that try to recruit the other warriors and Kora tags along to find them. She grows to be a character that’s strong willed but can overcome her guilt and use it as her strength to fight against the Empire. In the end Kora, the rebels, and the colonizers join forces to push back against the empire and it ignites a revolution throughout the universe that a small colony rose against the empire and inspired many planets and people to take up arms against them. Also for the plot of the life giver what if there’s like an opposite of that concept like a harbinger that brings death and there’s like a prophecy behind the life giver and the harbinger kinda go in the same route as final fantasy 7.

Thank you for this review! I had exactly the same feeling about this mess of a movie… a stylized, weak and boring version of ‘Star Wars’ meets ‘Seven Samurai’. All his movies lack heart and soul… One decent movie in his filmography and then a litany of ‘Sucker Punch’-like narrative failures.

Snyder could get away with not having a lot of characterization in 300 because it was all about the battle. You just had to be able to tell the Spartans from the Persians. The problem with this movie is that because it's only Part 1, you're just introducing all the characters. There's a battle at the end, but it's not *the* battle, which ends up making the whole thing feel pointless. In order to really succeed, he had to make us care about the characters and their mission. But we barely know anything about either one.

I don't think even having part 2 would fix it. The characters after the village aren't introduced well at all. The horsebird scene made me care more about the horsebird, but of course we abandon it. Same with the spider lady later. The movie spends a lot of time on these dead ends meanwhile Nemesis and...horsebird riding guy...are given no development and just exist. The movie should have us saying "These characters are great, I can't wait to see how they defend the village in part 2!" and no "Who are these guys?"

This movie just made me want to rewatch Tarsem Singh’s “The Fall.” It also quickly gathers a band of warriors, but in such a self-aware, tongue in cheek fashion that it’s actually charming. Yeah, I’ll skip Rebel Moon part 2 and watch something I know I’ll like.

Because in SF everything is scaled down, a planet is about the size of a town or county in most cases, usually a single culture, one type of climate and because it's all the same you can land anywhere and it would be the same easy to grasp place.

The actor who played the griffin tamer is Russian and South Asian Indian; apart from that, I kinda agree with everything you said here. I maybe would have said it in a nicer way, but you're completely right about Snyder double-dipping. Honestly, I was surprised by the hate, I initially rated it as average expecting people to argue it had good visuals and that would be enough to give it a 5 / 10, but I guess I didn't expect a more critical eye because . . . well, that's what Sci-Fi has been for years as a genre; a critique of interesting premises involving futuristic ideas or possible futures that humans could make for themselves, more generally. I don't think either Netflix or Snyder understood there's an entire set of expectations that's different from say . . . an action flick compared to a Sci-fi film. Also, I think I lowered my expectations and standards for what to expect from Hollywood films without consciously realizing it until after seeing this film get slammed by both critics and audiences.

Bugs Life..... Magnificent Seven... Gladiator....Baddie with stick he beats heads in with, straight from Walking Dead ....Swords copying light sabers... Spiderwoman straight from Star Trek Borg...Robot from the Mandalorian but like every single character in this lacking any humour or sarcasm etc...Baddie ( all white, all male , all caricatures of Springtime for Hitl#r Na#is) dies and gets rebuilt as Darth Vader and Phantom Menace...Main strong female characters back story exactly same as Thanos and Gomorah.. She , at 5'5" and 120lb despatches every very accommodating stunt man easily so we never feel this Mary Sue is in any real danger ..Plageurism taken to another level.... Terrible..

Netflix asked him to release a 2 hour PG-13 version. You should know this as you were a big supporter of the Snyder cut. You know what happens to Snyder's films. BvS, Watchmen all got cut short upon release.

The big problem is that the Seven Samurai story has been done and retold so many times it's become too cliche at this point. There's Magnificent Seven, along with its sequels and remake from a few years ago, Battle Beyond the Stars, A Bug's Life, the Three Amigos, Wild Hogs, and Star Wars has done it three times (first in the 70's Marvel comics, a second in a season 2 episode of TCW and finally as the fourth episode of The Mandalorian). So the movie was a going to struggle with originality regardless of anything else he did with it. Obviously it could have worked if there were some more creative twists put on it, but there weren't enough of them.

It was okay. I was entertained for 2 hours, but the excessive slow-mo is by far my biggest annoyance. Less is more. But it would've definitely worked far better as a limited series (8-10 episodes) with all the characters and world building. However, I hate invoking wokeness/Mary sue or whatever whenever a show/film isn't to your liking. Just stop. Not everything is a freakin cultural crusade. It's tiresome and, ironically, exceedingly plagiaristic to do so.

Not defending the film, but the 'coming back to defend the village' is definitely part two. That said, this movie completely dismantles any hope of them defending the village. We see the King's Gaze wreck an entire PLANET by itself. There should be no reason to engage the rebels in any direct combat when they can just nuke from orbit as shown.

I have to be honest, im not a huge Snyder fan...I like sonme and dislike others. But I have to say I enjoyed Rebel Moon. Is it thr greatest movie ever?? NO BUT it was entertaining and fun. I think so many people on the internet have breen swayed by the overwhelming negativity about this movie and the hate for Snyder. I think people are SHEEP and easily swayed. I would bet that more then half the people bashing this movie havent even seen it. I prefer to make my judgement by actually watching something. Too many trolls and people who just want attention and likes on their channel just spew negativity to gain popularity. NO TALENT IN TROLLING!!!
