I’m with you on the Director Cuts of movies. There doesn’t need to be multiple versions of one movie. I feel like it just confuses things.
@eddiek81799 ай бұрын
Director's Cuts are fine. Most of them are like an extended version with goodies for the fans of the theatrical cut which are already good in its original form. I love DCs and Extended cuts. However, with Snyder - it's an inevitable requirement because his movies cannot tell a story properly or function as a cohesive story without a DC. That's a skill issue. The guy is incompetent.
@yakuza019 ай бұрын
The thing is Director Cuts are meant to enhance or provide more material on an original cut that can already stand on his own. Take Aliens for instance, the extended cut shows us parts of colony life in LV-426 before shit hit the fan. However, even without those scenes, the theatrical release works and some might even argue that it's even better without them as it creates more suspense, leaving you to put together in your head how things went south. It's like Snyder is following the video game model for his movies. Release something that's incomplete or subpar and patch it up later. The issue is that even after patched up, it just managed to go from mediocre to OK.

I was actually kind of into the movie at the beginning. It was a little slow, setting up the farm planet and the position the villagers were in. I actually was dumb enough to believe the whole movie was going to take place there, and was kinda excited for a smaller scale, normal-people focused Star Wars. But Zach Synder really wanted his Seven Samurai, so the rest of the movie drags out in slowmo and character concepts. It's like the bones of a decent story was there, but instead of putting flesh on it with dialogue and character, he wrapped it in dramatic camera shots and called it a day

The thing is - once the bad soldiers in the village were killed, they didn't have to look for mercenaries anymore. The reason the were looking for mercenaries to defend the village was because they feared they would be wiped out. However, with them dead and having another 9 weeks before the rest come back - they could have easily migrated off to other planets available in that galaxy and simply got themselves absorbed into society since no soldier actually remembers who they are. I mean Kora and her companion were planet hopping with ease all over the galaxy. There is no reason for the villagers to stay and risk their lives fighting alongside mercs. If there was an in-movie reason why they should stay, then fine but none was ever given. Galaxy travel was available but yet they chose to stay and hope they can get mercs to save their collective asses. That's a huge plot hole.
@Ryder_OMEGA9 ай бұрын
This story line is complete garbage. But the main reason the villagers didn't want to leave any were. Is because they love that place. They never said it, but it was shown multiple times. You know its a beautiful place when you have straight up killers that would die in a farm village. Every one in the village loved the place and have a strong community. And best of all they celebrate every harvest by having having sex and building a family. Sounds like heaven honestly. And with so many planets, not all are ready to grow life.
@kafukwamekemeh9 ай бұрын
This is a just ridiculous claim why would you leave your settlement you grew up on for many years because a bunch of bad soldiers came and threatened you and that they would kill you, This is not a plot hole just a overexaggerating claim because most people would not do that
@kafukwamekemeh9 ай бұрын
i don't think the storyline is garbage tho@@Ryder_OMEGA
@eddiek81799 ай бұрын
@@kafukwamekemeh It is consistent within the logic of the movie. When they knew the soldiers were going to come back in 9 weeks they were ONLY worried about their lives and not their farms. They were only talking about their safety and their impending death and ways to placate the soldiers and not anything to do with saving the farm. Stop with the excuses. If they did talk about staying on their farms - fine, at least that would have been something. But they didn't. Again - there was no in-movie excuse they stayed. It's a plot hole. You can deny all you want but it is one. Why would they leave a settlement they grew up in for many years? Certain death from their perspective would be it. Most people would leave because risking your families when you can easily and safely start a new life somewhere is the smarter choice than risking every woman, man and child at the hands of mercs they haven't even met yet. Staying would be stupid when they could easily leave. The writers didn't consider they had access to travel. They should have come up with an in-movie reason for the justification to stay. Stop simping for an incompetently written movie.
@eddiek81799 ай бұрын
@@Ryder_OMEGA It well may be but it needs to be stated as part of the narrative. All we go was them freaking out that they will die in 9 weeks. They were not worried about the farm but their lives which was an in-movie narrative. All that heavenly goodness and sex is not going mean anything if they're going to die. A responsible person will make sure the safety of their village and it's citizens is paramount. People can always build another society especially with resources they seem to have. There is no way they can come back from death no matter how good sex is on that land. Any general will dictate a smart retreat is a good option to enable them to survive to have further options later on.

Snyder says it was his version of Star Wars, but this looks more like a knock-off WH40K instead. And I definitely thought the movie was genuinely bad as well. Snyder was so enamored with the movie looking cool, complete with slo-mo within slo-mo or, worse, slo-mo that's actually normal speed, that he forgot that the movie also needs to make sense. Screaming to the air at your allies who happen to be in the air near a dreadnought with roaring turbines? Taking out said dreadnought essentially via slo-mo and a stick? And that bubble with cables is an overly complicated way to speak to the general. Also, exclusively for the PG-13 version, action scenes involving slashings with an axe and repeated stabbings with a knife looks weird without broken cloth, wounds, and blood. Those scenes should not have been there if you're trying to keep things bloodless.

Rebel Moon part 1 basically did what Valerian did. A movie that felt like you were seeing mostly the story of the side quests of a sandbox video game that you needed to complete for over two hours but after like side quest number 4 which basically is the same one as the previous three side quests you've already done, you most likely will stop caring about the story and the characters. Its then when you've hit a point where you either just wanna complete the side quest as quickly as possible to get to the main story because it's starting to feel tedious and annoying or you just turn it off and play another video game instead that doesn't feel extremely repetitive and boring

The main things that made me mad about this movie was that it was "part I", which I cannot stand and I wish would just die. Trying to make everything a franchise in the first movie is just wrong. Movies should get a sequel or more if the first movie is awesome and there is demand for it. Second, is the deeply cynical, cash grab, audience insulting tease of a "director's cut. It is admitting what you are watching now sucks. It is pure 100% cynicism trying to recreate the whole DC thing. I agree with the video, put the best movie out you can now. This is especially true for a streamer. They don't have to make a movie 90 minutes because of studio or movie theater pressure or have to sell tickets to a movie audience. So why would you even need a directors cut? It is HIS movie. Like Netflix demanded cuts? LOL doubt it. They want the rubes to watch two movies for the price of one. It is insulting. I knew this would unfortunately be bad like in the first half hour when the movie did that tired Mary Sue thing where a 130 pound woman basically strong woman's her way through 10 armed men then beats up a couple guys at a bar right after. This also needs to die. She does not have superpowers and it is eye-rollingly unrealistic. Movies keep doing this and I just do not get it. Everyone hates it and it is like they don't care. There is nothing cool about it, it is just dumb and takes you right out of the movie.

In Rebel Moon, I feel he got the most likeable character with personality and a chance for growth of the bunch. He at least was given two heroic moments. I understand starting off as inexperienced, I don't want to say cowardly, because he's proven to jump in while others watch. The problem with Snyder's Rebel Moon for me...is too many Frankenstein IPs crammed into a sluggish run-time and an exposition dump that felt like nothing. The Slow-mo is atrocious. Why did it work in Alice in Borderland? Because they used it once when Kuina fought Takatora, and it was effective for that one scene. Just because something worked a few successful times, doesn't guarantee it'll be successful in every story. I wanted a gripping story, not just a pile up of visuals that got dull after the first two Slow-mo shots. And nothing about the world building looked visually appealing.

it was such a bad remix of Magnificent Seven. and it tries to be Star Wars.Agree with your review.

This movie is boring and repetitive at most. However, I would not say that it's as bad as people are making it out to be; I've seen some people say that it's worse than _Sucker Punch,_ which is utter bollocks.

Do you think Star Wars owns the word "Empire" for you to mock Snyder for it? Is Warhammer and Dune a knock off now because of it?
@onlyfonz9 ай бұрын
The fight choreography is horrid. I’m not seeing this talked about much. Watch the first fight scene again. The stunt fighters are pretending they’re being hit before the hit even arrives. And shuffling their feet in the background waiting for their turn at the choreography. This was acceptable to Snyder??

I'm just tired of the whole "women can be bad asses too" nonsense. She literally takes out an entire platoon of muscle bound Nazi dudes by herself in like 45 seconds. Enough of the bullshit.

The plot is a directly rip off from the plot of a 1980 sci fi - Battle Beyond the Stars. There's not the slightest original thought in this dreary piece of dreck.

Here's a hint for Snyder: Don't mention the name of a good director when you are a bad director.
@Pricked9 ай бұрын
The sad part for me is that the concept is dope as hell, while listening to Kora's awkwardly placed monolouge I was pretty much saying to myself "Damn, why didn't they just start the story from there." There's a lot of potential here, they could've made a new Star wars. they had the right Story/Concept in mind and had perfect opportunity to appeal to many new people and Star Wars fans since the actual Star wars is being handled horribly. But man they managed to fuck it all up.
@kafukwamekemeh9 ай бұрын
Oh wow because it is literally the number #1 on netflix in the world with sequels coming out soon But yeah you are just engaged with the hate train because youtubers are hating it
@Pricked9 ай бұрын
I actually loved the movie, my only complaints are that netflix cut the movie down first then released it to try and replicate the Release the snydercut movement. And that I really would've loved to see the backstory of Kora and not just read it through monolouge@@kafukwamekemeh

Because if he started the movie from the actual original content, then it wouldn't be a homage to the greatness of Magnificent Seven. XD Zach has the nasty habit of being so obsessed with showing how much he knows the tropes and HIS version of the tropes would be so grim and awesome that he really just doesn't try to make original writing.
@kafukwamekemeh9 ай бұрын
@@Cityweaver Nothing is original, Star wars was inspired by Flash Gordon and the hidden fortress
@Cityweaver9 ай бұрын
@@kafukwamekemeh I know you are responding to everyone to sing as much praise of Zach Snyder as possible, but since you don't actually care about having conversations, I'm not really inclined to talk to you about writing. Much like knowing the difference between inspiration and plagiarism, if I felt AT ALL that you had any deeper motivation other than to hear yourself talk, I'd engage with you. 😘

And if Gunnar isn't there to rescue them, then what? You would lose your mind and scream girl boss in this lousy review? Kai is a BOUNTY HUNTER, does Gunnar have a bounty on his head? Why would Kai feel threatened by a naïve farmer who's clearly a non combatant? Perhaps you don't feel anything because they don't make a joke out of everything. Do you want everything to pander for you?
@carolpulma27349 ай бұрын
Ever heard of a Duel? Is that how you treat someone with a grievance, by ganging up? I bet you would. Couldn't wait for a good opening for Gunnar to rescue the child? Do you want unintended casualties? What is so weird about not celebrating a defeat of someone who became so deranged over a broken heart? Do you not speak English well enough to comprehend her words or you simply lack the maturity to understand context? Wow, you think these introductions are unnecessary because you want instant chemistry so they could banter, throw jokes and be snappy like MCU characters. Yeah, I'm sure hardened individuals with severely traumatic past would easily bond with other people. You want them to interact but the moment Tarak attempt exactly just that and Nemesis responded, suddenly you had a mental breakdown? How very cognitively dissonant of you.
@ElGalapagos9 ай бұрын
I might watch Part 2 but not interested in the directors cut of the first. It was just boring. The fight scenes were stupid and the escape at the end has a bunch of armed enemy soldiers just standing there and not shooting at the escaping heroes right in front of them.
@kafukwamekemeh9 ай бұрын
that is because they had to edit the scenes t fit the pg-13 cut the fight scenes in the r-rated cut are much more gorrier.
@carolpulma27349 ай бұрын
"A massive set up, you got character introductions, got the backstory of the main character and you have the antagonist given a mission by the big bad" in the first half of the story. Tell me, what is the opposite of that which deserves your 'precious" time? This whole review reeks of hypocrisy, double standard, lousy nitpicks and cognitive dissonance. You actually gonna complain about a director's cut you can view for free on stream, is there anymore fake problem you like to tell us? PG13 cut was made so people below the age of 18 could see it on its limited theatrical release. R rated full version will be released on stream where age restriction and time duration are no longer an issue but of coarse why would someone so pretentious as you would need to know any of that. You're only here to smear someone for your content like a lowlife. Did you finally have the attention you sorely needed?

I didn’t think Corey Stoll was capable of a bad performance. From the opening scene with the girl farming silhouetted in front of a giant gas planet and then we see her and she’s totally under-lit to making a really good character actor like Stoll reading dialogue that was so bad that it was funny. But I don’t wanna laugh at Stoll so I was really happy that he got killed and won’t have this stain on his filmography. When are people going to realize that streaming companies have no business producing feature films. Seriously what will it take for it to click. As flawed as the Studio system was no one can deny that up until 9 years ago cinema was thriving. If there are any true movie fans out there please unsubscribe from streaming. I really want my movies back. Even David Fincher one the most visionary directors of the past 25 years can not make good movies within a streaming system.
@doc80139 ай бұрын
Streaming service has nothing to do with whether or not a director makes a good movie. Scorsese and Fincher literally just proved that this year. And Corey Still was actually one of the few bright spots in the movie. So much bad acting throughout the film, but not him.
@jeffpestano12969 ай бұрын
The Killer is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The story of Mank is well known amongst cinefiles so there was no new ground covered. Irishmen is perfect for going to sleep. Streaming companies are giving reputable directors all the money & freedom they want which has proven to be a formula that doesn’t work. If Stoll’s accent doesn’t make you laugh then we’re on different wavelengths. And if you don’t think streaming is killing cinema then you’re just in denial, cuz it’s all bad and sheep just stare at their screens & stop going to theatres. You think any of the real studios would have given Snyder $160 million for that garbage? They’re just buying high profile directors & actors for more than they’ve ever gotten to get subscribers. Finchers last real film was Gone Girl and then he sold his soul. The guy that made Fight Club sold out. Very sad times
@doc80139 ай бұрын
@@jeffpestano1296 bro, we're on different wavelengths cause you think The Killer is one of the worst movies you've ever seen and that Scorsese's last film is something called "Irishmen" lmao. I mean, the audacity to say either is hilariously weird and is the language of a hyperbolic edge-meister.
@jeffpestano12969 ай бұрын
Irishman wasn’t streamed? You just proved the point. Killers Flower moon was a real movie produced by a real studio and it was back to the real Scorsese. As far as the Killer I’d put it right next to panic room was low points of finchers filmography. Most of Finchers films I’ve seen over 100 times. I tried a second viewing of the Killer and it was more painful than the first. Fincher is an innovator. Tell me one thing that was innovative about the Killer. It was Lazy and it looked and felt like they were al there for the $160 million dollar pay. Even NIN score was totally forgettable. I can’t remember one note of the score. And the music is usually the best part of his films. Name 5 world class films produced by streaming companies? You’re being spoon fed shit
@jeffpestano12969 ай бұрын
Did it not bother you that Fincher stole a whole monologue from the Crown when Swinton is talking to the killer? What characters did you care what happened to them? What scenes stick out in your mind as ground breaking? Since when is it ok for Fincher to be mediocre? At $160 million budget, this movie would have had to make over $400 million to break even. You can honestly say you think this was a hit film?

Why is this voiced by one of those computer generated voices? Paused where they are not needed etc, it's so jarring and puts me off. If you are going to use a voice try and at least use one that's listenable and not this awful grating sound.
