Yeah, I thought so too, he was breaking down the facade, which is why she attacked him and told him he was going to hell - then she couldn't get out of the car fast enough when he told her that he hadn't actually done anything to 'her', and when he presented her with the hatred that she accused 'sinners' of, when in reality, what THEY do is so much worse, she couldn't handle it, and just reverted to what she has been taught to say all these years. This woman sits there and says that "they hate us", yet it is THEY who preach intolerance and hate, and picket the funerals of grieving families - is there any more greater an example of a declaration of hate than that? Is there any greater example of disrespect for human life than that? Is there any greater example of a bunch of people who are clearly miserable and living in fear, but must convince themselves that it is not all in vane...when they know deep down? That it is... So, "if I'm miserable? Everyone else is going to be miserable too...". Amen and praise the lord!

I disagree. I've watched these documentaries many times and I never got the impression that Louis wanted to "save" them. Challenge and confront them, yes. He seemed to have built a good rapport with the family and cared for them but I think it's fair to say there was a *hint* of scoffing particularly in the 2007 one. Almost, but I must say, I struggle to feel sorry for ANYONE who does not have the presence-of-mind to realise that picketing the funerals of anyone who 'offends' THEIR view of the world; putting those families through an extra layer of hell on top of what they are already suffering - then arguing that "they hate us, and we are just trying to warn them". Seriously, my patience and sense of compassion are practically non-existent, and my desire to challenge them to defend themselves (knowing full well that they can't), just takes over - and I do so enjoy nailing them to the ground and leaving them with even a modicum of the misery they have inflicted on countless victims of their absurdity. In the words of the late-great William Melvin Hicks "welcome to 'no sympathy' night; welcome to 'you're wrong' night", because you are simply affording them a courtesy that they outright deny the victims of their abuse; they interject where they are not wanted or needed for reasons beyond any decent human understanding; they drive young people to kill themselves with their hatred; they deny women basic human rights, and then have the freakin' audacity to tell others that they are evil and going to hell! That it is THEY who are the victims, and that people are "mean to them"....WHAAAAAAAAT??? These kinds of people are destroying humanity and the Earth, and the time for compassion and understanding for their absurd belief systems has come-and-gone, these people have to be silenced one-way-or-another; we need them out of the halls of power (in any capacity), and relegated to cult status - because that is all they are worthy of, and if we turn it into the circus that it is - point and laugh - maybe, just maybe, people will start to realise that this absurdity has to stop, and that anyone who subscribes to this way of thinking should be (in the words of the late-great Christopher Hitchens), "selling pencils from a cup".

Why? I'm an Atheist and I don't fear any of that stuff. Trust me, you've got nothing to fear, so just live your life and try and be the best person you can be. There is no hell, and there is no heaven, there is only the here-and-now, so please don't waste your time with fear and worry, because that's no way to live. Just take a deep breath and let it all go, and say to yourself "I am a good person, I work hard and treat every living thing on this planet with respect and courtesy, for it was a gift from the divine. I can do no more than this, but what more is required of me Lord?" How loving can your god be if he wants you to live in fear of his wrath, when you are just trying to be the best person you can be? Any god that punishes you for trying to be the best person you can be isn't a god worth worshiping anyway. You don't need a god or the promise of utopia for the 'worshipers' and eternal hell fire for...what exactly? The sinners? Or just the people who lived a good and humble life, but just didn't quite worship enough for god's satisfaction?, to live a good life that you can be proud of, and which enriches the lives of every person who crosses your path. I mean, how can god be mad at that?

Louis hit a nerve with her which is why she started attacking him with “You’re going to Hell”. She talks about how “they hate us bc we spread the truth” when no they hate them bc all their church does is judge and spread hate. Jael knew what he said was possibly true but she’s too far into the cult now and that church is the only thing she knows, she’s scared to leave the only thing she knows since that church taught her that outside of that church is nothing but the devils playground, scared her to believing she has to stay to avoid Hell. She’s too far gone to ever leave now, she’s just as lost into it as Shirley is now. It’s a shame that a pretty girl like her who seems very smart was born into that cult and isn’t strong enough to leave it like the others.

@@tupoiu I don't think so really. I mean most of us don't really think about death that much up until the end of our lives when it is actually happening or maybe if we get sick or get in some accident. Most of us live our lives without a care about the death that will inevitably come to us all. It is almost like it is filtered out. At least that's how it is with me, but hey, I may just be a weirdo, who knows? But when it comes to the god fearing people of the world they are constantly reminded of this fear, every day most likely. It must be very exhausting to be reminded of something like that each day. That said there is certainly merit in this fear, maybe not so much in the fear in itself but rather in being constantly reminded about something. It forces you to live actively and most likely helps you lead a more productive life in the end. However in this case it is quite clear that this fear of god has sadly been turned into something which is only counterproductive.

The sun was coming up and there was no shelter to hide in so she was going to die. She had seemingly accepted her fate and was sitting on a beech. Just as the sun started coming up, she realised that she was in fact a terrible person, and was likely going to hell for all of her misdeeds, so she started furiously digging in the sand to escape the sun while crying..... I'm not convinced that she is convinced. I can see right through her plastered smiles.

I dunno, she sounded pretty convinced. It's a shame because she's such a pretty girl she could pick and choose the guy she wanted to support her and buy for her everything she wants

It’s crazy how easy our minds can be influenced

Wow! Just...wow! You can see that she has just abandoned any thoughts and just embraced this cult mentality, I mean, she looked Louis in the face and told him that he should go to hell...for what? Why on Earth should Louis go to hell for being curious about other people? And that's all it is, curiosity and a desire to get into the minds of people and understand what makes them tick. ...but she didn't mean it, you can see, she's just reading from a script, and is consumed by fear, which is why she jumped out of the car and refused to answer anymore of his questions - oh, after she told him that he 'deserves' to go to hell. This woman is a victim, and you can see she's just resigned herself to it, because it makes her life easier. She doesn't truly believe that Louis should go to hell, but she's so damn scared of any retribution (either by her community or by her god), that she just sprouts lines to protect herself from it all. Yes, it's really that powerful, religion is the scourge of the Earth and one of the biggest hiding places for sociopaths and psychopaths to pray on the vulnerable...and this girl is vulnerable.
