We like people that show us what it means to be an American with how they express their freedom in the doc. The doc also shows him as a person with depth and we're not used to seeing that with people on tv. Usually it's black and white, bad guy or good guy. Well he's both, like most people. His life's story has the tragedy needed and his life is exciting because a tiger could rip him apart at any moment or maybe he blows himself up or gets shot or overdoses or gets arrested or beat up...ya never know. I think we all know characters like this. Their life's probably a mess but they're characters with a lot of stories to tell. These people don't usually live long, but Joe did..and this is the product. haha Countries all over are watching this damn documentary with jaws to the floor. I mean what they see is something only America can produce. The wild west still exists!

The 'We had two of them hang themselves" is out of context. That wasn't a normal tour, it was a safety seminar on owning exotic animals. He was advising against getting a particular type of baby blanket for smaller apes, because they have ribbons on them that can get hooked on a cage and they can ACCIDENTALLY hang themselves. Joe is nuts, but the monkeys weren't committing suicide over being caged or anything like that.

Theroux’s best move is the “look”. This is where the subject of the documentary says something. The camera then just pans to Louis who doesn’t say anything at all, just looks, and the camera shot pauses for about 5 seconds.
@RobWitchdoctor4 жыл бұрын
Very true, others have tried but no one else has been able to reproduce "the look". Mind you Eric Zoolander has a mean 'Blue Steel' look. Louis's other move is to have to ego or aggression in him while doing these documentaries. Always cool, calm and relaxed, which is a difficult thing to do in a lot of these weird situations he puts himself in.
@MildMisanthropeMaybeMassive4 жыл бұрын
Greig91 Justin Theroux is a master at getting his subjects to spill the beans. Another tactic is to ask short, simple, leading questions. Notice no matter how crazy or despicable his interviewee is, he never gets combative and goes on long rants sharing his opinions. (The closest he got was when he interviewed the white supremacist parents who were trying to market their twin girls as the Nazi Olsen Twins and lost it when their little girls made a swastika on the floor like it was a cute and innocent act full of smiles and the mother reacted proudly and full of encouragement.) Theroux never hangs his subjects, he just gives them a rope and they hang themselves.
@misspollysdolly4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if Louis or Jim started that look
@williamdraken60184 жыл бұрын
Often times it is edited though. The camera pans to Louis WHILE the other person is speaking. The person's voice is simply edited out while music or muted silence plays over, to create the perception that there is an awkward silence. Clever, but not entirely honest.

Justin G he isn't wrong tho, it was the principal. He tried explaining it to make people understand, but obviously people are short minded, it's easy to think inside of the box when you need to think outside of the box, outside of the box when you need to think inside of the box. Would you rather have someone else eutanize your animals and potentially abuse them doing so, or simply doing it yourself, knowingly knowing that PETA would have done it either way, or risk another "roadside zoo" to mistreat something you raised? You can't miss something you never experienced but you can always dream about it, but then again better to live the way you want to than dreaming too become or to do something/someone you'll never be or be able to. But there’s a lot of vile things joe exotic has done - and should be highlighted somewhere but most of that footage was destroyed funnily enough ☹️ this Louis clip showed that side a bit. It got me thinking how whatever environment we are raised in becomes our normal. And I wonder if ignorance is bliss and the reason why everyone is so unhappy nowadays is because social media bombards us with images of lives and lifestyles that we can't obtain. But yeah. So much of the stuff we do today will be looked back on with dismay in the future. Keep killer whales in tiny swimming pools for our entertainment, eating meat, homelessness & starvation. Sad that we can't even have nature reserves without people sneaking in and killing animals for their tusks and horns =( Our society is still so primitive "/

Louis is a proper journalist who with unassuming subtlety exposes these people for what they are whereas the Tiger King did no such thing and made this vile man and others like him a celebrity.
@johnmartinez74404 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure that's quite fair - the documentary highlighted how nearly all the people in the tiger business are cruel and controlling, and any former love and care they had for the tigers is long gone in the face of financial gain. It shows how welfare comes second to profit, and highlights the need for a proper law to regulate people being able to keep these animals in their backyard.

@@tonyjames5444 I agree fully. The Netflix show told a 'story'. Louis, however, tries hard to just present facts and let the viewer decide. In my opinion, Joe AND Carol are both insane. He did himself a disservice with that analogy since it doesn't apply to the tigers. It would only apply if the tigers could see other tigers roaming freely, or if the wheelchair-bound person never knew legs were for walking/everyone is wheelchair-bound.
