Mexico, or rather Latin America, had its own Milkchan around the same time. What I mean by that is that they also got an untranslatable Japanese comedy anime and turned into an improvisational shitshow many remember fondly to this day. There’s an anime called Dotto Koni-Chan which had so many Japanese cultural references that they had to make sense with Mexican cultural references. There are some instances, though, in which they completely forgot to improvise and followed the direct translation making absolutely no sense at all unless you understand some Japanese. For an instance, there was a character that had a curse similar to a werewolf; in Japanese, the joke was that his name was Oookami, misspelling of the Japanese word for wolf, Ookami. When the character is introduced, they showed the name written in Katakana, to which another character responded, “your name is misspelled, did you know that? They kept that in the Mexican dub.

@@angelinacamacho8575 I'd say that it was because most of the anime shown in Animax was dubbed in Venezuela, and while that country had been in the dubbing industry for many year, they were mostly relegated to cartoons and some live-action shows, there were and still are plenty of talented voice actors in Venezuela, but they had very little experience without anime, aside from shows like The Slayers and Shurato. That's why some of their dubs made for Animax for shows such as Galaxy Angel, Di Gi Charat Nyo, Burst Angel, Speed Grapher, Excel Saga and some others sounded kind of weird. Mexico, on the other hand, took a show called Dotoki Koni-chan, a show that already has tons of weird Japanese humor, and completely rewrote the script and added a lot of Mexican and Latin American references and lots of ad-libs by the VAs and it became a cult hit among Latin American anime fans that grew up in the early 2000s Animax did dub some shows to Mexico, like BLOOD+ and Renewal of Evangelion at least, but the majority was dubbed in Venezuela

People hate the dragon maid dub, but praise the ever loving crap out of the ghost stories dub.

11:42 Denki Groove mentioned! Tanaka also designed a few of their album covers + made a ton of promo art. They’ve been frequent collaborators with Tomoe Shinohara and DJ Tasaka, who’s behind the Disco Milk (We Love Music) theme on the show. Their album VOXXX is pretty adjacent to Super Milk Chan in terms of general wackiness

There was years of my life where I either tried looking for this goddamn show because nobody knew what I was talking about. I used to watch a lot of adult swim when I was a kid and couldn’t for the life of me remember the name. So dope to learn more about it through you. Thank you!

Don't know if anyone mentioned it, but inoki is antonio inoki, a famous japanese wrestler who was considered a national icon. If you ever played pro wrestling on the NES, he is fighter hayabusa. He was also a member of the japanese diet as well.

Honestly though this anime was a fever dream but it wasn't plus the End Credits of this show was God Tier.

Man oh man, at first I thought that Shin Chan and Super Milk Chan were from the same universe but nope, they are different despite both of them having a gag dub while airing on Adult Swim back then. Milk-Chan really is like Doogal but done right for Americanization. And Pop Team Epic is like a modern take of it save for keeping it's Japanese culture in the English Dub. And It is impressive that the creator later on did stuff from Harajuku including songs from KYARY PAMYU PAMYU! Now that is impressive.

2:29 - One of those horrifically dark jokes that I shouldn't laugh at but no less did for a good two minutes straight. Damn you / thanks for that, RebelTaxi!

Early 3d animation was nightmare fuel. Super Milk Chan felt like a fever dream from when I was a kid.

With things like the 90s x-men cartoon and Frasier returning, i wouldn't be completely surprised if this thing came back.

Super Milk Chan was fucking amazing. I think that was around the time of Excel Saga and/or Puni Puni Poemy, or maybe Colorful in terms of weird and nonsensical anime and I ate it right up.

Oh Dog of Flanders is an anime movie based on a book, I think the VHS of the dub was released by the same company that made the English dub of Pokemon into VHS tapes.

Your analysis of the original is exactly what I thought when I first screened it. And I know the live action isn't for everybody, but my thinking at the time was, no matter how much i "fosterized" it, it was still a low action show and I wanted to give people a reason to keep watching it. Anime fans love their VOAs, so... And your call to clip this on KZbin is very sweet. And as you can see by the comments, yours and my positions on it are somewhat controversial. It's nice to have someone see the flaws that I originally thought the show was full of. One more thing: that line about watching it when you think time is moving to fast is one of the funniest fuckin' lines I've heard in a looooong time. Keep up the good work, man. Thank you for giving that little freak and her show some attention. (Oh, great research btw. You're a badass)

10:38 absolutely peak taste, ultra relax is such a bop i used to love this show as a kid despite most of it going completely over my head lmao. i loved the strange character designs and just overall funkiness-- the fact that it only aired in the wee hours of the morning really helped the vibe too. i had no clue the creator had such a backlog but now i really wanna look more into his stuff
