AC4: Shattered Skies was my entry into the community. ACAH reintroduced it to me. Whether it's hated by the small percentage of bad apples, we are all Aces. And that is a family and Community that will never turn its back on fellow Aces. It may be a little late (As I don't know when you first started), but welcome to the family. Hey, it was my intro too! I still come back to it today. I even recently got a Steam Key for it off of G2G since you can't buy it directly from Steam anymore, and I was so happy I could now play it in 60 FPS. I still come back to the launch mission just to fly the B-1 and B-2 bombers and to listen to that awesome soundtrack.

Oh good, it wasn't just me. I got a free weekend trial of Assault Horizon and the dogfight mode just murdered any enjoyment I had. Didn't even get to the third mission before turning the game off. And then I sat there wondering if it was just me, because I'm not a big AC fan and I'd only played AC4 with my dad years before. Did I miss something? Is this a different game?

@@sethb3090 Assault Horizon is different from the other mainline games, it takes place in our Earth while the mainline series takes place in Strangereal. AH is like Ace Combat's call of duty, and features no mention to past games which are all interlinked

Assault Horizon is definitely one of the Ace Combat games of all time. It has aircraft, missions, and even dialogue. There is also a story. The soundtrack is pretty damn good, though.

so many ways this has been improved it's incredible. The expansion of the instruments at the start, the subtle inclusion of a choir, the improvement to that section at 1:30 is a really nice touch, the chanting vocals at 2:01 really up the tension and god damn that build up at to the drop at the 5:00 mark is amazing.

I remember being a genuine pain to jets when I would bring out my gunship into Washington DC and hangout near the trees. But Dubai...Dubai was where the real dogfights happened. Breaking the sound barrier while flying between skyscrapers, trying to get an advantage over the enemy, was hands down the best fun I've ever had in Ace Combat.

Man the build up from 4:00 to 5:06 really set up the crescendo so well!!! The feeling of turmoil and tumbling was evoked so well then to just pull up and find order and freedom at the last minute at 5:07 all the way up to 5:55 really was a gut punch in a great way!! Got the feels really pumping!!

After seeing the mission the original song goes to, and this great remix, I can't help be put in mind of a cinematic where a grizzled general is giving a briefing to his immediate subordinates and overlaid are images showing what he's describing will happen in the initial stages of a planetary invasion. But I'm a sci-fi freak and I keep thinking of Operation Bulldog as one of the last good parts of BattleTech, so there's that.

In addition to the music, ACAH covered all other types of aircraft really well. Being able to fly as a bomber, attack helicopter, and even shoot as an AC-130 was very intuitive and in some ways (not all) immersive. ACAH was definitely on the live cinematic side, almost Michael Bay-like too. Edit: I do wish we could fly more aircraft than just fighter jets in other AC's.
