Been looking forward this one for a while now, any post apocalyptic city builder that gets you past 'scrap huts' and actually sees you rebuild some semblance of civilization (Like Endzone did) is glorious. You REALLY can see the Frostpunk influence, almost too heavily. ;P But hey, if its done right, thats wonderful.

I really love the aesthetic. As people really build nice new homes, as soon as they can. Not living in the remnants and debris of the old world. That's kinda new. And as much as I like the Fallout-post-apocalypse look - this feels more ... realistic. If that's the right word. Also DieselPunk is a nice change of pace from the usual Steam Punk. Gameplay seems so far so good... nothing entirely new, but nicely executed. So I for my part really would appreciate a longer series with that game.

There's a lot that seems good so far, from the background music, to the general appearance of the game (we'll see about that "oil period" you talked about, hopefully!) and the catastrophes adding some degree of unknown. I do fear for a few parts though, namely it seems like everything is linked together with no redundancy, which, while it seems good, means that there are less options for how to play the game in different ways and what to optimise. You need X for Y, and you need Y for Z. Hopefully the next few videos will help with giving the player more of an option on how to specialize, considering this is only the very beginning

The electricity requirement shouldn't be a requirement. It should be a bonus that increases the effect/efficiency of the building, depending on the building. There is nothing electricity does that isn't doable without.
@dcoffinh9 ай бұрын
Certainly not as a prerequisite for these early things, especially if the game is supposed to be 5 decades after
@KainYusanagi9 ай бұрын
@@dcoffinh I'd say that even much of the later-game tech is still electricity-agnostic; steam or other forms of mechanical power (eg. water wheel) or hydraulic power more than suffice in such places if absolutely needed. Electricity is mostly a large-scale thing that can simplify some aspects of life and complicate others, just like any other fuel source.

I am going to point out something huge this developer has done with this game that too few city builders do. The layers are blended. The land the structures are on. The borders of the road. All feathered into the textures of the land. Might seem odd, but is first thing I noticed.

One update(patch) this game really needs on day 1 is the quest requirements not recognizing task you already accomplished before the quest was given. Oh, also, the progress RESET when you save and load the game, too. Each of them is a minor annoyance, but it builds up rather quickly... Oh, you built houses before we asked? Build it again. Oh, you built academy before we asked? Build it again. Oh, you already have 5000 water and 1200 food in your storage? But who told you to do that? I will only count the resource you collect from now on.

Honestly, this kinda blows the Surviving the aftermath out of the water even in its current state. I see this leaning more into the Frospunk category and if they have a good story for the Campaign mode and have custom objects to explore/interact (like that lighthouse) and some exploration/uncovering mechanics, this can be an instant classic. It is already in the top of the said market, let's just see how much else is there in the next 2 videos.

I was looking at buying this last night. I got turned off by the brown colour scheme and by how it seems most resources are identical to what you’d get from a medieval sim. Like - mining stone, copper, iron, steel etc should come from excavating the buildings, cars and homes of the city that once was, not just from conveniently-close-to-the-surface raw ore deposits. That could also add some fun around discovering old tech and chemical compounds and trying to figure it out.

This almost sounds, from the preface, like it could be in the world of The Maze Runner.
@justinsinke208810 ай бұрын
Wow, deliberately keeping the tutorial active. Rare choice these days. I do like how this game handles roads; as buildings are static sizes that conform to 90 degree angles, making roads on a grid so that everything fits is helpful. But if you have portions of your settlement apart from a grid, you can have something more organic, and quite possibly more cost efficient than grid roads. Seems like a game with a lot of granular tweaking to reach peak efficiency, as well as choices (like allowing for bartering) that will permanently affect your colony.
@TheCaptainbeefylog10 ай бұрын
Just remind people not to panic at the fact that roads cost resources. As the roads are built they include power poles and lines for power transmission. Basically roads become your power-grid as you begin to generate electricity.
@TheHorzabora10 ай бұрын
What are people doing with electricity in their housing? I dunno, maybe heating and lighting it? :-) This game looks really good, both at a gameplay level and appearance.
