Chassis swapping a crashed 997 Porsche 911 Turbo race car. Can't be that difficult, right?? From a bare chassis to a completed car, what a journey this will be!

One of the previous crashes probably activated the inertia reel locks in the seatbelt mechanisms. There's a company called Safety Restore that you can send them off to to get them reconditioned.

Besides having a clutch that is activated, when pulling hard on the seatbelt, and possibly an explosive release mechanism (that requires a rebuild), it also has a ball that locks the seatbelt when you brake a bit harder than normal. When you tilt the mechanism, it activates that mechanism (it believe you are braking).

Amazing how you remember where everything goes !...you're effectively building a 997 from scratch.. us Brits often forget how international Mat Armstrong is now..but he gets a lot of help...with the seatbelts, they are weighted so open only when the are in the correct position...the one installed might be inertia locked, but for the other one, try installing it then try it...

Usually seatbelts do not reel in, when on any position. I did install some additional seatbelts on one of my old cars, and then I discovered, that there was a "balance beamb" of a sort in side the mechanism, that prevented seat belt from reeling out, if in wrong position. It was quite annoying to find the proper "alignment" to get the full reel of seat belt out. But I used the "insitu" mimicing position, for that balance beam to ease off the lock. There after I could reel the seatbelt out and mount its opposing end to where it is supposed to be located in. By no mean that was easy to maintain the position nor to figure out this was the culprit of why reel-out was not plausible. Remember to have some sort of "antireel-in" at hand, so once reeled-out, it won't instantly reel back in. Tricky thing but I learned some in the process. So as a tip to @Matt13Ross see that you hold that reel of seatbelt in "like installed to car" position, when reeling the belt out. And OFC; if those seatbelts were worn, when the collision happened, you MUST refurbishe those. It is a thing. Edit: I saw you wiggling that reel on the palm of your hand and I instantly remembered this "positioning" thing. My thought was that "wait, that not gonna work like that."

Before putting any of the interior in I would put sound deadening on every single panel including the roof and pillars. Would be like a vault inside that car and an awesome freeway cruiser with little to no noise. Might cost a few hundred bucks for the Amazon sound deadener but would be so worth it.

The seatbelts have to be mounted in there exact plane for them to be pulled out, otherwise they keep locking up. If you bolt the rear mounting bracket to the body, the belt will work as it should. Fronts are a different matter as they are a pre tensioner seatbelt, these may of been activated in an accident at some point. Even if they were not in use, they would of been deployed s long as they were connected electrically. Hope that makes sense for you.

Great job again. I’ve read all the posts about the belts, so won’t add to that. You know what you’re doing. The dash will be “fun”, but will be such a huge thing off your plate. I’d echo the other comments about crash switches and modules needing resets, they like to hide those under dash areas, check out Matt Armstrong’s GT3 build, but am sure you have already.
