For fun - "every car rusts." Friend had a 59 Dodge truck and I think the thing was made out of Stainless! At the very least it was a high nickel content of some sort. Talking the entire body, bed, frame, suspension (if you can call leaf springs "suspension"). It had lots of exposed metal, but no rust damage anywhere. California is good, but that truck was truly amazing. He kept it looking original, why not? It was a truly solid truck and testimony to "they don't build 'em like that anymore!"

Recently I rebuilt a 2017 Chevy Cruze with a clean title it came from Waco Texas, you do find some clean title cars that were totaled down here in Texas don't know how it works but works for me! Reason they get "total loss' is because shops charge a lot of money to fix but where I get them painted they charge per job not per hour that is how cost of repairs is low for me, also I do most of the straightening and assembly and part replacement the body shop guy only does the final adjustments and paint.

Reminds me of the packer cars they used to use way way back at the clay track here. They'd cut flaps out of the fenders to fit wide tires on, then as the frame rotted they'd cut the whole back off the car so it didn't fall off and keep running it until it was dead. Maroon '67 Buick LeSabre is one I remember that got that treatment.

Little story from my insurance adjuster days..... At a shop, looking at a 2-3 year old '82 Camaro. Rear hit. Rear body panel caved in. Minor damage to the rear of the hatch. Glass was intact. I opened the hatch to look at the floor, and it wouldn't go up very far. Forced it open just a little bit more and BOOM! Glass exploded. Turned out the hatch structure had twisted and tweaked the hinges........ "Add a used hatch to that estimate, will you?"..........

My last car was an 88 Toyota Camry. It threw a rod a few weeks ago, and it was SO rusty that my mechanic said that even if I sourced another used engine that he wouldn't install it due to safety concerns. lol. The rocker panels had disintegrated almost entirely, the wheel wells were rusted out, quarter panels rotting away, and the rear bumper actually fell off the car at one point because the mounts rusted into two. I only paid $600 for it though, and it lasted me 3 years. I've had more than enough money to buy something nicer (and safer), but I was trying to be frugal. After it threw a rod I went out and bought a new BMW. The dealership joked about how big of a swing my upgrade was. 😂
