Today I rebuild my Can Am Outlander 850xmr differential. Within the last three years the rear differential built up a tiny amount of slop and I felt it was time to rebuild it!
Specs- Backlash .005 and .036.
Parts list
Ring and pinion with bearings, seals, shim kit, and pinion needle bearing- 703500870
Link: canampartsguy.com/product/xmr...
XMR Pinion Spanner Nut Tool- #529036302 Make sure you take a file and shim some of the socket down or it will not fit on the spanner nut.

I messed up when I changed mine. Had one to many shims on the pinion gear and didn't check my lash. Ended up getting a mud n wheels diff lol

Honestly, others that I know pointed out to me, once the pinion is tight, it’s good to go. These are the people that practically rebuild these differentials everyday

@VicToR_Rider one thing I will note is I used the old shims, counted how many were in my old pinion. Both of them has the same amount. It was really simple to rebuild.

@j-muddy93 I changed the bearings on the pinion gear and also put the same shims back. The only thing I could think went wrong is that bearings might of been slightly bigger. But u live and u learn. I did my wife's 570 rear diff and it was perfect.

I updated the discription with a link for where you can get the parts. The backlash guage I will get to once I make a trip out to the shop.

What attachment did you use on the slide hammer to remove the old needle bearing?
@j-muddy93
@j-muddy93 8 ай бұрын
I used the end with the interchangeable hooks. All I did was take the hooks, and instead of facing at each other. I faced them towards the outside. I slid the slide hammer in. Turned the skid hammer into the attachment so the hooks would not release the bearing casing. Had my dad grab onto the case while I worked it out of the case.

How do you get the race out when you want to change the ring gear bearings?
@j-muddy93
@j-muddy93 11 ай бұрын
Honestly if the surface is still in great condition, I re-used my original ones because my how differential ring gear was. If you need to get it out, brass dowel and a hammer and gently work it out.

You mean the differentials are the same? To be honest with you, that is not true. The differentials on the 450/570 models have a different case and gears to fit in that chassis. I think this is what you are asking. I tried using google translator to figure this out.
