This was great. I am currently in the process of changing my G2 rear diff.. the original howls horribly at about 650 miles on it. Trail riding and use at the hunting camp... So instead of rebuilding, i bought a new one from a guy that makes these checks before he sells them. He told me the backlash is about 6 on the dial indicator, so with the information you gave that should be good. Thanks for actually showing how its set up 👍🏻

Good video, thanks. The Can Am units are all built using the metric system and since that measuring system is considerably easier to use you'd probably be better off to stick with that system. I think all other ATVs also use that system, even, surprise, surprise General Motors mostly goes that way.

When your checking backlash. How much do you know you need to push against that bar/metal? Like what tells you to not push more or are you pushing just enough until you hear the teeth mesh?

I am having trouble pulling left and right drive shafts in order to remove the rear G1 diff. I’ve tried the strap, wrap and yank. What else might I try?

Jarret from Mud'nWheels told me every factor CanAm diff he's taken apart is different. I found that odd, but now I understand after watching this. Good videos BTW. Very nicely explained! Who's diff was that? Just a spare one you have kickin' around?
