I work on semis and have seen this problem in rear differentials using synthetic gear lube, when I have been replacing differentials I am refilling w regular 80/90 gear lube. Synthetic oil is to thin to cool and lube under high load. I have a 2017 renegade xmr 1000 w 29.5 assasinators and have switched the diffs and tranny to 80/90 and did the same with my 2014 renegade xxc 1000 and have not had a problem w either one.

I've done a bit of investigating into the diff and found that the problem to be the forward pinion bearings overheating and the lack of lubrication also to the needle roller bearings so to improve lube I've increased quantity of oil in the diff from 250ml to 500ml it seems to be working ok. I do this by applying oil through the breather pipe and i check it on every time i use the quad

Hey rebuilding a friends diff that was already split and all the shims were taken out on each side of the ring gear. I cant find out anything about how many go on each side. If you can help it will be appreciated.

Today I'm working on my 13 1000xmr and discovered while working on front dif that the rear dif has an extreme amount of play while turning rear drive shaft . Like the pinion gear needs to get shimmied to make better contact with ring gear . I'm going to try to get to this today ,and pulling it or remove drive shaft to inspect it better.

How much different is the gen 1 Xmr 800 diff? And also can you put anything in a compressor so it doesn't freeze up in the winter from the moisture and water from riding in the summer?
@mudNwheels9 жыл бұрын
chauncey froese the gen 1 xmr diff is now the g2 regular diff. they are different but can be interchanged with drive shaft mods

i put hydralic oil from my plow in my air compressor. put bike on #1 than #6 soon as it starts i put the intake hose of compressor in oil bottle say one second in 2 seconds out for the full cycle than put on #3 go for a ride to spread the oil in the system than cycle the system and any excess oil will come out

So what causes the heat, then failure?
@iare196 жыл бұрын
Terrell Lem heat is caused by friction. When you cool down hot diff fast then it will create vaccuum effect and start sucking in water trough seals. Notice - 95% of ATVs use same material and they DO NOT have that problem. BRP has shit seals and apparently there is no solution. Yet. I have same problem with 2017 xmr so obviously they havent fixed it.

I have 17 xmr 1000 what can I do about the friction heat and pinion seal failure. Rebuilt rear diff once and changed fluid again after 1200km of rebuild oil is starting to get milky again.
@mudNwheels4 жыл бұрын
best advice i can give to you with a 2017 is to check your prop shaft for phase . an improperly phased prop shaft will cause pinions seal leaks and worse we have several vids about this on this channel. second now i am not 100% clear but you need to change the diff oil every 2-300 miles. this is because there is such a small amount of fluid in these diffs
@kirkmcdonald40394 жыл бұрын
mudNwheels ok appreciate the advice I Deffenetly haven’t been giving the fluid the attention it deserves. And I will check the phase. If the phase is out is there a drive shaft I can buy where it is phased correctly or are they still welding them up wrong

Well I might be daft BUT ....... if it's a diff where are the planetary gears. To my mind it's just a crown wheel and opinion direct final drive unit not a diff at all. What's going on ?
