ticking sound is most likely just valve ticking since its been without oil for a while it trappes air and it crates that sound, just let it idle for a few minutes and it should go away once all the air has escaped.

To me that sounds like timings out. Looks like it's rocking a bit which would suggest timing is slightly out as i4s don't rock like that one they're running due to primary balancing. Back and forth yes side to side in the longitudinal axis, no.

Once you sort the oil pump get a magnetic sump plug put in and run with some fresh oil. Drain it again and look for metal in the oil and on the plug. Hopefully you’ve not destroyed a bearing.

Sounds like it could be timing chain slapping around maybe tension isn’t correct or when engine was flipped something was knocked out of place

Hi mate, crankshaft sensor is on the front of the gearbox. It’s a black tear shaped sensor.

They don't have hydraulic followers etc, solid shims on buckets. You got the valve seats cut on the head so the valves could be further into the head meaning valve clearances are out which would effect compression. Not much to go wrong with the oil pump it's driven directly from the crank and you didn't have that part of the engine apart, if the oil light went out once started its working. Wasn't sure how you lined up marks on the lower timing chain but presumably you addressed that. I didn't see any sealant on the new waterpump or the thermostat housing when you put them on but may have been just the edit.

@@arrindaley3714 okay so couple things. We did actually have that part of the engine apart because we discovered that the chain had skipped a tooth on the crank pulley, so we actually took of the crank timing cover and I think we may have reused an old internal oil gasket in there when putting the cover back on which may have meant oil was leaking internally and not being pumped into the places that it should have. There was a new gasket on the water pump that came with the new one (similar material to an inlet manifold gasket but just thinner) which again wasn’t in the video. As for the thermostat we sealed it with coolant/water resistant sealant which again wasn’t on the video. I couldn’t include every little step as the video would have taken far too long to edit, it would have been 45 mins long and it would have got boring. But from what you saw from the edit those conclusions are completely valid. But the reason why I know it was oil pump was because I took of the oil filter after this and there was no oil in the filter. Oil wasn’t being pumped around the engine and most importantly to the head so that’s why it sounded tappety. Also one more thing, the valve clearances were very precisely measured and done by my mate who is a very good engine builder. It deffo wasn’t that either.

@@JackMcNeillCars if it didn't have oil pressure that's a real concern, you should get oil pressure before starting by unplugging the coilpacks and removing the plugs or similar (I don't have the coilpack engine) so that there's no spark and cranking the engine over until the oil pressure light goes out. Also fill the oil filter with oil before installing, after an oil change it's not as necessary as the system is already primed, anything to get oil in there sooner. I'd be inspecting the bearings when you go back in to fix the oil pump, no oil pressure for even a second on a running engine will generally ruin the bearings, hopefully you get away with it. I remember a reusable metal gasket between the oil pickup tube and the oil pump but nothing other than that, perhaps I've forgotten...
