Chapter 1 is complete, a fully restored rolling chassis, now it's the little task of overhauling the top end of the engine before the full re-assembly can begin.

Sweet!! Rolling chassis is always a great milestone! That lift is pretty bad-ass too...the forks turned out great and this thing is going to be back on the road before you know it.

Cheers Ken, yeah it felt really good. This fork drama really tested me at times, so to have this moment has put a spring back in my step. Feels like I can really commit bench space back to the engine top end work now too.

Fantastic series. Love the ZX7 and also the ZXR 750. Currently riding a Triumph Street Triple 675 now with 51k on the clock and still going strong.

Top class work! The further along you go the easier you make this stuff look. For reasons that I cannot fathom, I have a deep seated phobia about replacing bearings so it's quite inspiring to see you tackle them with such apparent ease. Great vid as usual, can't wait for the next installment.

It’s great to see you taking care of such a maligned beast. I’ve ridden motorbikes for 40 years. The 7 has always been the biggest head turner. They look gorgeous & go like stink when well fettled. A bit on the heavy side, but superb handling. My 7 has got me out of many a sticky situation…😂

I agree, I’ve never had much of a taste for modern bikes, but this bike really feels like the peak of the era I love.

@@tomsworkshopprojects Good man. My first bike was an RD350ypvs. It was quite a shock after passing my test. The acceleration was unbelievable until I got used to it. Now I take my 7 out when I need a refresher of how precious life is. It always makes me laugh😂

Thanks! Yeah, nothing makes Dymags more appealing than lugging the heavy stock wheels around the garage 😂 cheers, I think so too, I think they’ll work nice against the green bodywork and the brushed frame.

for bearings and seals go to bearing/seal supplier same bearings and seals that Kawasaki use and car manufacturers and cheaper because it dont say Kawasaki or BMW on the box, use genuine Kawasaki gaskets for engine build

Wheel colour is good but I used Black electrostatic as other colours were not available. The rear axel nut; Buy a new chrome plated one! There seemed to be a good amount of movement as you tightened the sprocket nuts; are you sure that the cush drive rubbers are really still good? Otherwise I continue impressed with your methods. Richard
@tomsworkshopprojects
@tomsworkshopprojects 2 ай бұрын
Cheers Richard, I did see the chrome ones but I think I prefer the black, I’m always keen to keep original parts if I can too. The Cush drive rubbers are probably slightly worn, but they weren’t failing or cracking. I did these wheels last summer and have since seen how cheap new rubbers are, so I may replace them when I get the wheels balanced. Finish line still feels a while away 😂

@tomsworkshopprojects

Thanks mate! It’s water based, currently using “No Nonsense Degreaser” from screwfix. But I think I’ll be switching back to Swarfega Jizer soon as I found it a bit better

Hi Tom, do you know what the colour was called they used to replicate the cosmic grey, they look spot on, so many different shades of grey and black out there i wouldn't know what one to pick for my wheels, thanks john.

@tomsworkshopprojects 2 ай бұрын
Hi John, That's a great question, I've had a rummage for the invoice but can't see it, so I'll reach out to the blasters to get a copy as I'm pretty sure they listed the colour on there. If so I'll let you know!

@tomsworkshopprojects

Hi Mate, I got them done at the same time as the subframe and if I remember correct it was about £250 for the blasting and powder coat for all of it. Their website currently says £174 for a pair of wheels if that helps!

Awesome. I'm restoring a 1994 zx9r at the moment. The UK is great for finding these 90s bikes. Here in the states I don't know wtf is wrong with people. All the old super sports are destroyed and owned by idiots who know absolutely nothing about them.
