Hey Matt loving the content, just a heads up from one car fanatic to another.. i work for JLR as a technician and the loss of steering control is common on these models. A bolt for the knuckle on the lower control arm of the front suspension comes loose and potentially leave you without control of the steering. Find out from a dealer if your car is affected; im sure its a recall. Ether way its not to bad of a job providing the correct tools and parts, as with anything. Good luck 🤞🏻

you will need to check what the car thinks the steering angle is in the straight ahead position, they have a soft lock stop, which is the resitance your feeling. If its out 360 degrees, work out which way it needs turning and disconnect the steering column turn the steering wheel and reconnect the column.

Big fan of these videos. I have the luxury of finding this channel late in the day so I have plenty to watch on night feeds with our new baby! Just a tip from me I’m a mechanic by trade, for dashboards or big jobs with lots of different nuts and bolts I done for the first time used to use different colour pens and put a dot on the bolt and onto the near trim or part so I could match them up, especially on dashboards on black trim it highlights bolt holes a lot clearer so you can hopefully get a 10/10!!

Great job so far! When you were replacing the intercooler bracket, your intercooler actually looks bent inwards from the bottom left up to the top right. I could be wrong on this part, meaning that it's supposed to be like that, though again, it does look like it. RR's are not something I work on, usually once per year that I even see a RR in my shop, it'd be a Discovery diesel. Vogues aren't that popular here! Again, great job so far!

8:49 It could be that little battery you saw in the trunk. BMW has the same problems with active steering if the battery is defective. It is important that if you replace it that it is a original battery. It has to be coded otherwise the problem remains.

Your steering is EPAS (electrical power assist steering) the resistance is the steering thinking that you are at the end of travel the SASM is out (steering angle sensor) with software you would be able to dial it in easily but you can also work it out by the amount you have to turn to feel resistance and turn the rotary coupler back to the original position, with the steering wheel off obviously, there’s two grey rubber pins that move the coupler. Hope this helps.
@i2ise2 жыл бұрын
I’m saying this as a guess, most likely happened during dash removal. Entirely possible it could be a genuine fault but I know this is an issue people have had when doing dash out rework.
