Nice job - thanks for explaining all the detail work that often does not get done and shortens the life of the engine.

Thank you Peter for the excellent videos on the 351W Build. My younger Bro, a mechanic, built a 351W for me back in 1983, for a XW GT Replica. It was a 4V 290HP from a ZC Fairlane, He scored a set of forged pistons and chrome moly rings, brand new, super cheap, and I think it ran about 10.5:1 comp, standard heads, with cast 4BBL Man, and Cast Exhausts, and a small cam. it ran a 600 vac 2nd Holley, with FMX auto. The damn thing could haul. From side by side standing start against a XY GT 351C auto, I would pull a car length in front, and stay there, till about 100MPH, then the 351C, would catch up. Of course this was at the drag strip. Pure torque!! Massive torque!!! You will enjoy that motor. Keep up the good work.
@PeterAndersons11 жыл бұрын
Thanks Christopher, That car you had sounds brilliant I've never driven a 351W powered car so looking forward to it. Just unfortunate that the Weiand manifold I had was too high, but I have a Holley 600 here, so I will put it on. Had a few Cleveland powered cars, but prefered the Galaxies 390 just for the pure torque it had, even though a couple of the Clevo powered cars were quicker. I've been collecting loads of parts for the XW and I'm just about to get stuck into the rust repairs... always a drag until the body's done. Where the original 3.50 rear axel would work with the V8, just didn't want it screaming at 100km/h, which was the reason for the taller 2.92 ratio I was after. Thank's for the great comments mate, enjoy your Christmas and new year. Cheers Peter

Well done Pete, The little Winsor sounds great through my HiFi system. As always your work is impeccable. I'll be looking forward to the rest of your video's. Oh yeah by the way, I am rebuilding a dash cluster for a R31 Skyline made by VDO instruments Australia. Its going into my 01/01/1990 ( The date on the compliance place says New Years Day 1990) Nissan Skyline TI Sedan that I have been lucky to own since it was 4 years old. It has always been garaged and never driven in the rain. It is Nissan Classic White with dark blue crushed velour interior with black highlights. The Dash is black with all controls green backlit. The car was a custom order and first rego was 02/02/1990 here in Perth. The car has never been restored in anyway at all. As they say it is Totally Factory Stock. Thanks for the great video.

Beautiful engine my man. I'd give an arm and a leg for a engine that sexy to swap into my truck up here in the USA. You reminded me to, I need to one day build an engine stand for this sort of stuff. Might do it a touch more mad max style, have it hanging by a chain and running in at some wilder RPM's.. Course that'd be after the cam is broke in and I've confirmed it won't lunge a Rod clean into my leg. All in good fun and proper build up brother.

Thanks for your videos. I have a 351 Windsor 5.8 and it's only running in 4 cylinders. Looking on the distributor top the # 1 no working, 3 yes, 7 no, 2 yes, 6 no, 5 yes, 4 no, 8 yes. I have the correct firing order but I can remove the 4 wire plugs for the 1-7-6-4 and still running good, but when I put it on drive it doesn't has any power the all. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Peter, astonishing work, can you help me a little bit, i have a 351W EFI 1990, a f350 truck manual transmission, so i have a lot of problems with sensors and ECU issues, so i whant to swap it to carb, and of course i have in mind to use a HEI distribuitor and buy the lower intake manifold with carb, my question is if it´s possible, i need to change another parts, like heads or cams, what jets and intake-carb kit do you recommend, thanks for your help.

love the videos Peter. i agree with the stands. iv just put a 351c into a 82 LTD and after 20mins of driving it the rear main started to leak. so now its engine out again. just in your opinion do you like the windsor or the clevo motors, i say the clevos as the manifold does not control any coolant flow so its every easy to work on and do changes etc

hey hi sir. I couldn't tell by looking at the head but the gasket you are using is for a 16 bolt type intake and head most are 12 bolt
@hartleyspann66072 жыл бұрын
Would suggest for more power and efficiency to put a dual plane manifold on with 2V heads, 2V heads for street cars has been proven to run better at lower rev ranges and the dual plane allows you to run at least a 650 vacuum secondaries 4 barrel

hey Peter how's it going, I'm doing the exact same engine build as you, just curious the year of my engine is a 1979 it rated at 143hp at the time, which was pretty sad considering its a 351w, how much gain do you think id get with the same exact build as yours ? I was told the bottom end is capable of holding 500hp plus, but I'm not really looking for that really, but I sure want a little more kick to it with at least between the 250 to 300hp area, any suggestions would be great and info on your cylinder heads what have you don to them ? my engine's a D9AE, it'll be going into a 1984 f-150, if I can keep the stock crank and connecting rods that'll be even better, let me know what you think :) thanks
@stevenrais93608 жыл бұрын
I would assume it was rated at Net power and not the actual HP which should be somewhere around 250

@karenjames346211 жыл бұрын
Amazing videos! I watched all of them because im looking to buy a 351 Windsor for my ford ranger that we are trying to make into a prerunner. I was just curious what the total cost for the build was? Including machining and parts. And was this a step by step engine rebuild series or did you leave out some steps along the way while rebuilding this engine? Again amazing videos and very informative. Thank you so much
@PeterAndersons11 жыл бұрын
Thanks Karen, So glad you liked them. The condition of the block was good, so it didn't need to be rebored, although I changed the pistons to raise the compression - it was initially a mid seventies low spec smog motor. Raising compression and dialling in a new high performance cam will really wake these things up - provided the cam you choose is compatible with the rest of the engine specs. I still need to fit a good intake and Holley carburettor, but that can be done later - I really need to concentrate on the rest of the car now. If you need to get a lot of machine work done, the price will increase. This motor cost a whisker under $3000, but really should have been just under $2500, because I doubled up on some items and bought some expensive parts that I didn't need. Thanks again for your positive comments. Cheers Pete
@kargmeister9 жыл бұрын
Peter Anderson When you changed out the pistons, did you have the machine shop balance them to your rotating assembly? I've got a 1994 351 roller block with factory cast dish pistons and will be swapping them out for some speed pro hyper flat tops with 4 valve reliefs and would like to know if major re-balancing is required? Awesome motor by the way!

The block is early 1974, taller deck height for smog - the reason I hunted for the right pistons to raise the compression height to gain good compression.
