Thanks Jenny, love a good garden rail! Sigh, one day. Great idea to use the new Hornby Bluetooth decoders with a plain old 15V DC transformer. With the keep-alives I think your reliability in the garden will be outstanding. Can't wait to see. Cheers, dave (Brisbane, Aust).

I look forward to seeing the garden railway in future videos. I’ve always been a fan of them since I watched Pine Tree Junction growing up. As you’ve shown so far, they seem to be a lot of work though very worth it.

So , I had a O gauge layout in garden for 9 years . I wore it out . I relied on R/C control and a variety of Rolling stock the best to be fair was Skytrex locomotives offering 4 - 9hrs running time . Also Lima stuff was a cheap but robust . Big problem with slugs snails & cats . Also every running session required about 1/2 hour fettling track something you've failed to mention. During lock down stepped up to G scale , and is a fantastic addition to garden . However not to keen on continental stuff , so currently running Thomas stock but modified .

Thank you for this. I have been looking for a way to refurbish my G-scale garden railroad. Blue tooth looks like the way to go. All I need now is a supplier in the US for Bluetooth boards.

Thanks for a interesting new topic of your garden railway. I started a 00 gauge setup last year and we covered the setup over winter and to my surprised all worked well even without a track clean. The only problems were two point little spring failed to work. That's my fault for no oiling or giving them a shot of silicon grease. Looking forward to your further video's.

Great to see you getting the garden railway sorted, it's giving me huge inspiration to go out and get mine done! Like you I will be fitting the Hornby HM 7000 chips with my Dapol 0 gauge locos, however I'm pretty sure that they won't handle the power requirements of the Heljan locos such as the class 37, 47, 50 and 56, do you know of a "blue tooth" sound chip with a bigger power handling capacity? Anyway good luck with the work and keep these videos coming please!
@Bigboy4018 Жыл бұрын
Something to consider power wise. A modeler here in the US runs his locomotives via blu-tooth and a battery car. He uses a LIPO battery in a box car and connects it to the loco via a plug. No power on the track at all so cleaning is not an issue.

That Larry would be the perfect set up for Jenny. In a way it future proofs the garden railway as the older one gets, the less you want to be bending over cleaning track!

An extremely useful and welcome video, thank you. We’re planning to have a garden railway at some point, possibly next year or 2025. It’ll be OO for prototypical length trains for which the shed is too small. Height differences prevent one being connected to the other, so HM7000 might be the best solution. However, Hornby haven’t released any more sound profiles for it in nearly 3 months. With Simon Kohler now gone, is Hornby still committed to the project?
@JenniferEKirk Жыл бұрын
They are very committed. Android App is taking priority but is slated for release by the end of the month. Then more profiles will come - class 55 release is nearly ready.

Unfortunately I live in a flat without a garden. I have quite a lot of smaller "O" gauge locomotives and rolling stock but no space for a garden railway or a shed for a "00"gauge. I will try to go with "009" as I have a lot of Lynton and Barnstaple locomotives and rolling stock. I also have some continental narrow gauge stuff. I hope the weather holds for your new project but it is unlikely that I will be able to visit it as I live in West Sussex. Your's sincerely. Ian Cooper.

Hi Jenny. i have a `out and back ` o gauge in the garden and i run a dapol 060 tank loco with a auto coach on dcc using the Gauge Master wi fi, which i operate from my phone . Also having a `oo` layout and purchased a HM7000 chip . I had thought about putting the HM7000 into the `O` gauge loco but was not sure if the motor would blow the chip ...what are your thoughts ...cheers

HM7000 work fine in the small Dapol locos. However I would not try it in a Heljan big diesel as these draw a lot more power.

Hi Jenny, Can you please advise me what modern day O guage track is compatible with my old Hornby clockwork locos and rolling stock with fairly deep flanges? Regards Bobby.

Hi. As usual another great video. As I am a newbie in diorama creating and just starting to enjoy trins/tracks/etc. So thankyou for assisting me in my new hobby. I do have a question - when your going to lay yr rail track do u always lay track bedding underneath. I think its a 5mm bed ??? Thankyou mate. Hope to hear from u. Cheerz Denise W.A.😅

Sorry , you still need very clean yrack for power. Im thinking , fit a few freight vans with lithium batteries , like your drill batteries. And when you run out of power you swap out the van with a frest one and charge the outer. Plug in wiring to engine. Cant hurt to try.

Great video Jenny! With a 75 ft garden we could have quite a sizeable railway, however we're moving in less than a year's time so best leave it until then.. Probably will go for one of the larger narrow gauges too.

A couple of bird noises at the start which YT subtitles as "thank you" - it can understand the birds (!) Garden railway looks idyllic.
@JenniferEKirk Жыл бұрын
KZbin understands more than it lets on but in this case, I doubt the birds were thanking anyone. They aren't used to us doing work in the garden, so they are more likely to be saying "hey, get out of here!" :D
