Great info , on my belle the fore and aft is off i feel like the door was sprung open to wide would this cure that problem

I found a problem with removing the hinges. The sheet metal has been extruded to match the counter sinks in the hinge for location. They don't just pull out. Now, this replacement has become complicated

Hi, my doors have never closed well with out lifting them up. There’s play in the hinge, also I think the A pillar is corroded. Would you recommend changing the hinge pins before lining everything up and bracing the car to replace the A pillar and possibly the heater channels? Great videos also, thank you!

If the hinge has noticeable wear, that would be a good place to start. That way, once you start in on the structural stuff, you’ll know that the door alignment can be trusted.

Does anyone know if I can swap hinges or pins for a 1978 super beetle? I hate the stock mirrors always coming loose or sagging. The look of the hinge mounted mirrors look better and have a better view. I believe from what I read the hinge pins are 8.1 MM ??? So can I just get a pin with the top threaded for the mirror? Or can I just buy a hinge for 67 beetle with pin and use that?

Is it possible to ream with the doors in place? I just need to replace the top hinge pin on the passenger door to accept a pin with a mirror mount.

Very interesting, question, did you consider just replacing the hinges with aftermarket hinges ? Instead of going through the pin replacement process?

With the VW hinge being riveted to the door, it’s actually easier to replace the pin.

Good job! Any reason you didn't ream in reverse, running the reamer shaft-first, then pulling it through with the drill, in order to assure the most precise alignment possible? Like with king pins?

I've done that before, but have found that on a hinge that pivots in the middle like these it's not necessary.
